The Xbox Series X may have just released worldwide, but fans are already coining custom controller ideas to help represent their styles, passions, and admiration for their favorite franchises. Be they movies, television series, or video game-inspired, the Microsoft fanbase has been relentless with their creativity.
With no console and controller variations incoming in the foreseeable future for the Xbox Series X, owners are rapidly posting speculations of what’s to come. Each proposed model highlights a fan’s ideal console accessory and some semblance of their identity as a gamer.
10 Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Controller
XboxPope created this custom Xbox controller based on the latest entry in the Assassin’s Creed franchise. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla takes place in the era of Norse Vikings. These Scandinavian raiders were dominant in areas of Europe during the 8th to 11th centuries.
Known for taking to the seas and pirating, these influential historical figures serve as the inspiration for the newest playable character, Eivor. With Norse runes and a turquoise hue used to honor this entry of the franchise, XboxPope aims to cement this member of the Raven Clan as an Assassin through his custom design.
9 Halo Infinite Controller
XboxPope fashions another controller, this time based on the highly anticipated Xbox exclusive title, Halo: Infinite. While the former launch title was delayed into 2021, that hasn’t stopped fans of the series from proposing their prospective limited edition console designs. In this particular special edition, the controller model aims to emulate the armor layout of the franchise protagonist, Master Chief-Spartan 117.
As the series that put the Xbox brand on the map, Halo has become synonymous with the brand. With about a year until this title is released, fans can hold out hope for a limited edition controller as incredible as this.
8 Star Wars Squadrons Controller
DanteRafael on Reddit displays this Rebel pilot controller inspired by Star Wars: Squadrons. EA’s latest Star Wars video game puts players in control of warring fighter pilots with tense space battles. X-Wings and Tie Fighters collide in the ongoing battle between the Rebel Alliance and the tyrannical Empire.
After receiving positive fan and critical reception, a new community of fighter-pilot fans rose within the gaming ecosystem. As the side most often associated with righteousness, the Rebel Alliance has served as a hot spot for fan adoration within the Star Wars community.
7 Purple Xbox Series X Controller
Not every custom design has to be extravagant to be appealing. Kwik Boy MODZ proposes a controller design that demonstrates the beauty of simplicity. Many Xbox owners have been baffled that the Xbox Series X has launched without basic color variations for those who want something other than the basic matte black finish.
Though Microsoft has promised to release more controller types, even releasing a blue Series X controller in time for the holiday season, there are a plethora of basic colors that gamers will anticipate an official release for.
6 Fallout Controller
War never changes. This is the catchphrase of the Fallout franchise, a series based on a future version of Earth ravaged by nuclear war. XboxPope showcases this controller variation reminiscent of a key faction in the franchise, the Brotherhood of Steel.
In a reality where traversing the irradiated plains of a damaged planet is required, suits of armor are often mandatory. The Power Armor has become one of the most recognizable designs in Bethesda’s catalog. It serves as this controller’s inspiration in conjunction with the Brotherhood of Steel, as this armor is often worn by the faction’s members.
5 Cyberpunk Controller
In 2077, one city is rated the worst place to live in the United States. This is the setting of 2020’s Cyberpunk 2077. With the release fast approaching, fans are eagerly awaiting one of the most anticipated launches of the year. XboxPope’s Cyberpunk inspired design captures the futuristic and technological aesthetic of this dark, dangerous world.
Though the Xbox One X will see an official special edition controller released alongside a limited edition console to celebrate the launch of CD Projekt Red’s title, the next-generation console seems to have been forgotten. Thankfully, XboxPope has provided a model just as enamoring as an official product.
4 Hydro Dipped Controller
One of the most incredible processes brought forth with the age of 3D printing is the Water Transfer Printing Method. By liquefying printed designs, artists can submerge an item and see the design transferred after it is removed.
DripzByAri uses this process to create one of the first custom products of its kind. Not only does DripzByAri create hydro dipped products, but they also add personalized touches, including icons and names that can be etched into the surface of the controller after the hydro dipping process. No two controllers created by this artist are ever identical.
3 Rainbow Chrome Controller
Sometimes, a chrome finish can make a great design look even better. MCL Customs highlights this fact with a rainbow chrome finished controller. The outer shell of the controller harbors a glossy and smooth texture.
Touching up even the Home button on the Series X controller, MCL Customs has done its utmost to ensure that the accent color matches the sleek aesthetic of the controller. With a matte black finish that complements the chrome, Xbox owners will be hard-pressed to find a design quite like this. The creator has plenty of other designs too.
2 Great Wave Controller
AlienSimProductions created a handmade design based on the famous Japanese painting The Great Wave off Kanagawa. Not only is this a flawless recreation of the 19th-century artwork, but it is integrated seamlessly into the Series X Framework, even recoloring the buttons, triggers, and buttons to match the piece.
The Edo Period-inspired design stands among the most immaculate custom controller creations out there, and one that is sure to remain among the best even after official products release to compete with it in the future.
1 Claptrap Controller
Given XboxPope’s impressive and expansive catalog of fan-created consoles, it serves as no surprise that he helped design a one-of-a-kind version of the Xbox Series X and the accompanying controller. This model is based on Claptrap, the mascot of the massively popular looter-shooter series, Borderlands.
With the help of 2K Games, XboxPope created the rarest Series X currently on the market. Only one such model exists. This version of the system also comes with a limited edition controller that he created to match the highly coveted console.
