Nintendo’s Animal Crossing: New Horizons became a surprise hit upon release - primarily because, in quarantine, nobody had anything better to do than play the fun, relaxing life simulator. Building an island from the ground up is a surprisingly fulfilling task, and the enjoyable gameplay made the entire experience that much more addicting.

The game has plenty of fans - it reached new heights for the Animal Crossing franchise by becoming the fastest-selling Switch game ever - and even a few celebrities are starting to get into it. From activists to actors to even a celebrity chef, here are 10 celebrities who became ACNH addicts.

10 Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

In a tweet from early May, politician Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (a self-described gamer and League of Legends addict) admitted she was fairly new to ACNH, but one of the first things she wanted to do was get to visit other people’s islands.

She opened her DMs for four minutes so that people could send her their dodo codes. She was actually surprised by wholesome and sweet many of the messages were, saying the experience gave her “faith in humanity”.

9 Cole Sprouse

Riverdale star Cole Sprouse seems to be quite the Animal Crossing enthusiast - he’s been tweeting out references to the franchise for years, from inviting people to his town in New Leaf to calling Tom Nook “the greatest villain in the Nintendo Universe.”

More recently, he’s been selling his turnips in New Horizons, DM-ing fans for their dodo codes to try and get a good price.

8 Mark Hoppus

Musician Mark Hoppus has made it no secret that he’s an ACNH fan - he’s even live-streamed him playing the game on his personal Twitch channel.

He’s also tweeted out plenty of pictures and videos of his progress, earning him the admiration of game fans everywhere.

7 Lil Nas X

Singer-songwriter Lil Nas X is another long-time Animal Crossing fan, tweeting out jokes about the franchise as early as 2018.

Recently, he posted an image on his Instagram showing him with his head bowed nervously, with the caption “um, so, u wanna play Animal Crossing?” - showing his love for the game hasn’t died down.

6 Danny Trejo

Machete star Danny Trejo doesn’t seem like your typical ACNH fan, but rest assured - he loves the game. After he was introduced to the game by his teen-aged son, he became an immediate addict.

Recently, he gave out his island’s dodo code so select fans could come visit him, and he even organized a personalized tour for them - pretty sweet, to say the least.

5 Brie Larson

Brie Larson has been a hard-core fan of the Animal Crossing series for years - so much so that, before the release of New Horizons, Nintendo teamed up with her to promote the game. In an ad posted to her personal Instagram page, she said she was “already obsessed” and that the game was a “sweet [way] to spend time at home.”

In an interview with Elle, she said her love for the game “runs deep” and that “[she’s] never lived without a Nintendo console.”

4 Maisie Williams

Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams has been very upfront about her love for ACNH.

She’s posted plenty of pics of her island to social media, and she even asked fans on Twitter how she could get a Twitch account in order to stream the game, drawing thousands of likes, retweets, and responses.

3 Guy Fieri

Celebrity chef Guy Fieri is probably best known for his popular television show Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, in which he visits restaurants around America in pursuit of the most flavorful experience.

In his free time, however, he’s also an avid ACNH player, creating his own island (aptly named “Flavortown”) - which, as would be expected, generated plenty of pleas from fans to let them visit.

2 Chrissy Teigen

One celebrity who’s been tweeting nonstop about ACNH is Chrissy Teigen, who seems up to discuss anything and everything about the game, from her island layout to her hatred for Zipper T. Bunny.

She’s also talked about how she doesn’t really like visiting or having visitors, saying she doesn’t “care for the Switch friend code thing” but also wonders if she’s “missing out”; asked for answers regarding in-game tasks (like getting to the upper level of her island), and mentioned how proud she was after teaching her young daughter Luna how to play the game.

1 Elijah Wood

Elijah Wood was perhaps the first celebrity to hit the news because of his Animal Crossing addiction. It all started when Twitter user @directedbyrian (a reference to Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson) tweeted her turnip prices. Wood liked what he saw and DM’ed her for her dodo code.

Once arriving on her island, he was a model citizen, complimenting the layout, interacting with her friends, and asking before picking fruit.
