When it comes to gaming, esports, and entertainment, 2020 felt like it was forever. Still, it is time to start looking forward to 2021. Sony’s PS5 and Xbox Series X are finally here to transform the industry with all the new technologies they integrated and amazing new graphics. While some awesome games were released when Microsoft and Sony announced their consoles, we have more coming down the line over the next year.
Here are all the biggest console games that are on the way, whether they’re coming out this year or later. These picks are in no particular order and consist of games of various genres and gameplay styles.
10 God Of War: Ragnarok
After that cliffhanger from 2018’s God of War reboot, fans had to wait patiently for years to hear God Of War news. Thankfully, in September, Santa Monica Studio threw a bone at players that love this franchise and revealed the teaser trailer for the God of War sequel.
However, All the teaser revealed was the game’s name (God Of War: Ragnarok) and that they should be prepared for whatever is coming. Guess players will have to wait until 2021 to have more info about this game.
9 The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Sequel
Despite being announced during Nintendo’s E3 2019, nobody knows a thing about this game. Still, everyone is super excited to play it. After the huge success Breath of the Wild was, this hype is surely deserved.
All fans can do is pray that the next Nintendo Direct contains any info on this sequel. However, there are some rumors regarding the Switch Pro, and what better game for that console than The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Sequel? On the same note, next year marks The Legend of Zelda’s 35th anniversary. So there is a huge chance fans will hear about this sequel in 2021. Don’t lose fate, guys!
8 Stray
As anything involving cats, Stray broke the internet when it was announced back in June in the Playstation event. While futuristic cybercities are trendy thanks to Cyberpunk’s release, Stray takes the concept to a different level, letting you play as a stray cat who has to solve a mystery to escape the city.
This third-person cat adventure lets you interact with its world in different ways; you can choose to be a stealthy, agile, silly, or even an annoying cat. Along the way, this feline protagonist finds a friend in a small flying drone, known as B12. If this game sparks your interest, you’ll have to wait until 2021 to hear more about this indie title.
7 Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury
Don’t fix it if it isn’t broken; this appears to be the philosophy behind Nintendo’s move to migrated their Wii U’s titles into the Switch. The last game to get a Switch port is no other than Super Mario 3D World, a title that almost justifies buying a Wii U.
This time players can expect hairier content as the platformer comes with Bowser’s Fury. However, Nintendo hasn’t revealed a lot about this new purrfect content. Nevertheless, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury will release on Feb 12, 2021.
6 The Lord Of The Rings: Gollum
Have you ever wondered if Tolkien knew just how much of a cultural impact his books were going to have? In 2021 a new game set in The Lord Of The Rings universe releases for players everywhere. This time, you’ll take control of Gollum, arguably one of the most iconic characters in the series.
This game will take place in the years following Gollum acquiring the one ring, which means it takes place before the events of The Lord of the Rings. While players dont know a lot about this game yet, you’ll be able to switch between Gollum and Smeagol in a stealth-based gameplay.
5 Fable
Players got a glimpse of this game during July’s Xbox games showcase, and at the time, many thought this would be the long-waited Fable 4. However, players now know that it is not a sequel but a complete series reboot.
The game has a new developer, Playground Games, which is likely why they decided to do a full reboot since the original one Lionhead closed back in 2016. Gamers have nothing to worry about as Playground Games are known for their work with the Forza Horizon series.
4 Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
Ratchet & Clank is a beloved series for Playstation players, so of course, a new game is releasing for PS5. Announced at the PS5 reveal event back in June, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will be a continuation to Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus.
While gameplay-wise the game shares similarities with 2016’s Ratchet & Clank, this new installment in the series will allow players to instantaneously travel between different areas, planets, and other worlds via inter-dimensional portals.
3 Horizon Forbidden West
Gamers’ favorite post-apocalyptic redhead is back in Horizon Forbidden West, a direct sequel to 2017’s Horizon Zero Dawn. This time around, Aloy embarks on a mission to the Forbidden West, looking for the source of a plague that’s killing all it infects.
Horizon Forbidden West was announced at Sony’s PS5 reveal event in June. Players can expect to get their hands in this title sometime in 2021, or, if you just can’t wait, go ahead and rewatch for the eleventh time the announcement trailer.
2 The Medium
This game was initially set to release in 2020, but like many titles before it, it was push back till 2021. The Medium is a psychological horror game that lets you play as Marianne a, you guess it, medium.
Thanks to her abilities, Marianne can travel between her world and the spirit world. This sets up fun gameplay mechanics where you’ll have to travel between both worlds in order to solve puzzles or scape supernatural treats. If you’re interested, this game releases on Jan 28.
1 Hogwarts Legacy
The Wizarding World is the gift the keeps on giving. Potterheads rejoice as in 2021; you’ll be able to be the star of your own Hogwarts story. This game is an open-world RPG that will let players explore familiar and new locations, discover fantastic beasts, create their own wizards, craft potions, etc. All the wizardly shenanigans you’ve always dreamed of.
Hogwarts Legacy takes place in 1800’s Hogwarts, where you play as a new student with the special ability to practice Ancient Magic. Only you can decide how to handle this newfound power. Will you protect it? Or give in to a more sinister temptation? Guess you’ll find out in 2021 when the game releases.
