With the release of the PS5 comes a leap forward in gaming technology. While the console itself may look a bit unconventional, it boasts a sizable increase in power. This added strength improves several aspects of the console, especially in navigation.
As Sony’s newest console is released globally, players will notice a remade user interface. The redesign focuses on a more streamlined user experience. Several new key features are integrated to make gaming and sharing with friends easier than ever before. Targeting functionality and visual appeal are a primary concern with the PS5 system.
10 Track Trophies and Key Objectives
When pressing the Home button to open the Control Center on PlayStation 5, players have a list of notifications called cards available to them. Some of these cards track trophy progress in an open game by giving percentage totals in real-time. Some trophies will have personalized rewards on PS5 to commemorate sizable achievements for players. Other cards pertain to level progress and will notify players of any objectives that they missed. Most can be used to immediately jump to different levels where unfinished tasks in the game remain.
9 Customize The Control Center
Below the cards displayed in the Control Center, players have a series of key console settings that can be accessed instantly after the Home button is pressed. Displayed with widgets, players can select which of these settings best suit their immediate needs by pressing the options button. One such setting, the Switcher, allows players to swap between recently used games and apps. After pulling the customization menu up, the desired widgets can be selected. The functions players deem unnecessary can be removed from the menu entirely.
8 Screen Share
When playing the new PlayStation party system, players have the option to share their screen with other party members. The PS5 allows Screen Sharing between people within a party. Scrolling to the top of the party menu, Screen Share can be found and selected, allowing members to share or view.
Not only can players share their screens with other players, but they can minimize the screen share and continue playing their game on the PS5 simultaneously. The Screen Share can also be moved to a preferable location on the display.
7 Official Game Help
Should an obstacle arise and stand in the way of progression, players with an active PlayStation Plus subscription can access Official Game Help. By pulling up the Control Center and selecting an activity, all missing objectives are displayed. Using concise and effective videos, Game Help leads players to these objectives. Even early adopters can utilize Game Help, as several PS5 launch titles utilize the feature. With games like Astro’s Playroom, Sackboy: A Big Adventure, and Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition, video guides are listed for those who don’t want to use external sources like YouTube.
6 Game Share
If multiple people use the same PS5 console, there is a way to ensure that each account has access to the games purchased there. Heading over to settings and making sure that Console Sharing and Offline Play are enabled allows access to an account’s library console wide. This setting will persist even when the console is offline. Those who play on the system with an account that has Console Sharing and Offline Play active can play any games regardless of the account selected, including games from the previous console generation.
5 Seamlessly Navigate The Store
With the PlayStation 4, navigating to the storefront meant opening up a separate app that was often slow to respond. With the PS5, the store is integrated into the system hardware, meaning that browsing games is nearly instantaneous by comparison. This new store experience is coupled with a brand new PlayStation Plus benefit, The PlayStation Plus Collection. PlayStation Plus subscribers can download and play a selection of the PlayStations 4’s most popular games free of charge whenever they wish.
4 Take Screenshots and Videos
The PS5 is always capturing your most recent gameplay, and this is a feature that makes sharing screenshots and videos so much easier on the console. By pressing the Create button on the PS5’s DualSense controller, high-quality captures can be taken. Players can then select either a screenshot or video as their creation option.
These captures can then be saved and shared with friends through the PlayStation system software or across social media like Twitter if social media accounts are linked to the console.
3 Personalize Parties
One of the Next-Generation Features of the PS5 is an enhanced focus on the social features of gaming. With the new and improved party system, preset parties can be saved for future use. If players have a regular group of friends they like to talk to, they can customize a party to include these people. Simply open the Control Center, create a party, and save that party via options for further use. Players who are included in the party list will be able to join the next time that they come online.
2 Get Playtime Estimates
Another feature of the card system gives Playtime Estimates. This feature allows players to manage what activities to complete based on the time they will take. Whether Playing Sackboy: A Big Adventure or the hit indie title Bugsnax, the PS5’s Control Center will specify how long a certain activity will take by highlighting the card. Offering an easier way to schedule out game time, these cards prioritize those with tighter schedules. These estimates are tailored to each player by measuring individual skill as well as average playtime for these tasks and levels.
1 Check Video Games News
On the PS5, players can follow their favorite publishers and video games. Following games will add additional cards to the Control Center with Official News. Games are added to this feed when downloaded to a PS5 for the first time. Selecting the Official News card from the Control Center will show stories from these highlighted games. These cards are updated intermittently by game developers, and games can be individually removed from the feed. To do so scroll down after selecting a game and choose the ‘Unfollow’ option.
