Electric-type Pokemon can often be some of the most resistant species in the entire series. The only natural weaknesses most of them have are Ground-type moves, making many offensive fighters hard to beat quickly and heftier tanks almost impossible to take down.
Unfortunately, there are quite a few exceptions, as many Electric-type Pokemon have second types that open them up to an alarming number of weaknesses. Many of them are still quite powerful despite their vulnerable bodies, but be extremely cautious if you choose to use any of these fragile thunderous creatures.
10 Togedemaru — Three Weaknesses
The roundest hedgehog from Alola, Togedemaru, is a lot bulkier than you’d think from its size. Its abilities range from Sturdy, which lets it survive the fatal damage attacks at full health, and Lightning Rod to draw in and negate Electric-type attacks. However, these have to make up for a great variety of weaknesses that come with its additional Steel-typing.
This includes Fighting- and Fire-type moves, two of the most common in the game. But, even more worrying is that the Steel-type trait also makes Togedemaru extra weak to Ground-type moves. If you see an opponent with Earthquake, it’s strongly suggested you get Togedemaru out of the battle fast.
9 Zekrom — Three Weaknesses
Despite being a Legendary Pokemon, Zekrom is one of the most vulnerable Electric-types you can get, due to its Dragon-type body. This doesn’t negate an Electric-type Pokemon’s Ground weakness, and even though it flies fast in the anime, it’s still weak to Earthquake like any other Electric-type.
Zekrom is additionally vulnerable to Fairy and other Dragon-type moves, two attack types that are more common than ever lately, as well as Ice. It does mean it could hold powerful items like the Weakness Policy with great reliability, but you also will likely need to raise its defenses if you want it to have a chance in long battles.
8 Mega Ampharos — Three Weaknesses
Zekrom is hardly the only combination Dragon and Electric-type Pokemon, as there’s one more that’s recently been retired. This would be Ampharos, who normally resides as a pure Electric-type but gains a Dragon-type trait the moment it Mega Evolves.
Unfortunately, this mechanic and Ampharos itself aren’t in the newest iteration of Pokemon, making this vulnerable Electric-type a relic of the past. Hopefully with newer games, though, we can see its beautiful and vulnerable hair once again.
7 Alolan Raichu — Four Weaknesses
Alolan Raichu is the first and only member of its kind, being an Electric/Psychic-type combination with a spectacular boost to its offensive stats. This can make it a great fighter, but it, unfortunately, carries all the weaknesses of Psychic-type Pokemon with few new resistances, adding weaknesses to Bug-, Dark-, and Ghost-type moves.
Even though it floats on its tail in battle, it fully lacks the Levitate ability to prevent Ground-type moves from hitting it. This can result in Raichu being very easy to take down, especially since it still doesn’t move fast as many overpowered Dark- and Ghost-types.
6 Stunfisk — Four Weaknesses
Stunfisk has never been a competitive Pokemon, but its weaknesses have certainly made it a popular meme within the Pokemon community. This comically-weak mudfish has the addition of a Ground-type trait, opening it up to Water-, Ice-, and Grass-type moves alongside the usual Ground-type weakness.
The fact that it’s weak to its own subtype is almost embarrassing, but Stunfisks adorable face makes it much easier to forgive. In the least, it’s still got fewer weaknesses than Galarian Stunfisk, who replaces the Electric-type trait with Steel-type to make it even more vulnerable than Togedemaru.
5 Morpeko — Four Weaknesses
The majority of Electric-type Pokemon don’t have more than a few weaknesses, but the later members of this list are definitely much higher in risk to a lot of common and varied types. The first big case of this is Morpeko, a combination Electric/Dark-type and another first of its combination.
This maintains the weakness to Ground-type moves while also being vulnerable to Fighting-, Bug-, and Fairy-type moves for a total of four weaknesses. This is enough range that nearly any opponent will have a super-effective move against it, making this small hamster feel even smaller.
4 Mow Rotom — Four Weaknesses
The Rotom family is an extremely odd variety of Pokemon. Each form Rotom takes on gives a different subtype to replace its Ghost-type trait, all while maintaining the Levitate ability to prevent Ground-type attacks from harming it. Some of these forms can help Rotom resist many types, but others can be alarmingly more fragile.
This particularly includes Mow Rotom, also known as Rotom-M. Adding a Grass-type to nearly any Pokemon usually brings a ton of weaknesses, with this form receiving serious damage from Fire-, Poison-, Bug-, and Ice-type moves, none of which would affect a normal Rotom and causing it serious danger.
3 Frost Rotom — Three Weaknesses (Four When Grounded)
There’s one other form of Rotom that’s worth mentioning, and it’s the Electric and Ice-type Frost Rotom, or Rotom-F. This bulky fridge might seem more defensive, but it has the same stats as Rotom-M with even more weaknesses and an even less accurate signature move of Blizzard.
This includes Fire-, Fighting-, and Rock-type moves, all of which are far too common among most Pokemon to not pose a serious risk to Fridge Rotom. Its fourth weakness is to Ground-type moves, which are thankfully negated by its Levitate ability, but effects like Gravity or Mold Breaker can easily get rid of this invulnerability.
2 Arctozolt — Four Weaknesses
If you felt relieved that Rotom-F had the Levitate ability, you’re going to feel extremely sorry for Galar’s fossil Pokemon Arctozolt. This cold raptor has the same type combo as Rotom-F, giving a full weakness to Fire-, Fighting-, Rock-, and Ground-type moves all at once.
Unlike Rotom-F, though, Arctozolt makes up for these weaknesses by having several great offensive attacks to take down opponents in a single hit. You still need to be extremely careful, but it can sometimes pull its weight if you think you can get value from its strange combination.
1 Alolan Golem — Four Weaknesses
While its beard and generator are certainly stylish, Alolan Golem feels almost like a mistake compared to the other Electric-types that have appeared in recent games. Replacing its Ground-type with Electric opens it up to several more weaknesses, as well as a much higher vulnerability to Ground-type moves.
This new regional version of a Kanto classic is now weak to Water-, Grass-, and Fighting-type moves in addition to this double-Ground vulnerability. These types are all so common that Alolan Golem is functionally useless, not having enough strength or defense to make up for such an abysmal typing.
