If you’ve even heard of the Final Fantasy series, then you’ll know not to expect anything close to realism from these games. The worlds in this universe show off fantasy elements as if they were normal everyday things, but even in-universe logic can be challenged at times.

Other than that, the developers and fans’ attitudes around the games have also defied logic on many occasions, and perhaps the best way to illustrate this would be through the use of memes. We’ve brought 10 of these that are both hilarious and poke fun at the tropes found in the Final Fantasy games.

10 Noctis Didn’t Get The Memo

One of the criticisms that Final Fantasy XV received was that the main characters looked as if they didn’t belong in the game. There were few elements similar to earlier games, and even the fashion sense didn’t align with the predecessors.

One has to think, at least for this picture, the developers could have had Noctis dressed in more fashionable garb to blend in with the other protagonists. However, he just looks totally out of place, making one wonder if he’s even supposed to be a Final Fantasy protagonist.

9 Sensing A Pattern

Here, the not-making-sense part comes from the fact that the series evidently hasn’t branched out in storytelling as much. In essence, if you’ve played one Final Fantasy game, then you’ve kind of played them all since the main characters are so much alike.

Basically, there has to be something wrong with their mentality for them to qualify as the lead character, and this meme proves how Final Fantasy has somewhat regurgitated the same kind of protagonist without people even realizing it.

8 Predictable Fandom

This meme pokes fun at the nonsensical mentality of the fandom rather than the game itself. As we know, Final Fantasy fans tend to go rather crazy about the story, to the point where they’re perfectly willing to fork out cash for lame stuff.

Aerith’s death in Final Fantasy VII remains the most heartbreaking moment of the series, and there’s no doubt fans are willing to spend however much is needed to see her alive again. This would be pretty ridiculous, though, as having to pay the same price for DLC lacks common sense.

7 The Real Question

Those who are too young to have remembered the days of the PS1 tend to be baffled how people went about playing games with those types of graphics. The truth of the matter is that it didn’t strike gamers until graphical quality improved over the years.

However, it does look extremely weird how characters in Final Fantasy VII were, at one point, seen without mouths. In retrospect, did putting lips on these guys really require too much of an effort?

6 Annoying Zack

The joke in this meme is how Zack was perceived as a good conversationalist in Final Fantasy VII, despite him clearly being really annoying. For this reason, he’s been paired with a different Final Fantasy character in order to illustrate how people would actually perceive Zack’s antics.

It’s generally outsiders or those new to the series who have a bone to pick with this character, as these gamers don’t see why the Final Fantasy fandom finds Zack to be a likable protagonist at all.

5 Why Not?

Invoking the age-old video game trope of denying access to a location for no rational reason other than because the developers want it that way, Final Fantasy XII was most guilty of this scenario playing out.

In many locations you’d find these kinds of blockades, and a simple sweep of the place would show how simple it should be to navigate around the ruins. However, the game would make players find needlessly long alternate paths. We’d appreciate at least making the blockade look a little believable.

4 What’s All This For?

If you want a good laugh over the needlessness of Final Fantasy XV’s gameplay, then you can check out Conan O’Brian’s playthrough, where he tore into how the game was filled with useless sequences that served no purpose.

We have to agree with that sentiment for the most part, as moments such as this have absolutely no point being in the game other than to waste time. Other stuff, like fixing a car when there were many other means to travel, or just circling around with no purpose, serve as confirmation that the game was comprised of a lot of filler.

3 Sephiroth’s Theatrics

Japanese video games go hand in hand with theatricality, to the point that a lot of stuff that is impossible seems like second nature. Sephiroth happens to be part of this, as people have just stopped questioning altogether the seemingly impossible things he does.

Here, we can see how he’s got Cloud stabbed and held up…using one arm! Not only is Cloud’s survival itself ridiculous, but Sephiroth choosing to hold him up is even crazier since stabbing a person should be good enough to take them out.

2 The Series Numbering

Those who think that iPhone names have gotten out of hand aren’t aware of how the Final Fantasy series was the one that started this trend. Rather than make a new name for a follow-up, the series chose to go with titles like Final Fantasy X-2, which implies there can be two parts of the number ten.

This has become crazier as newer entries have come by, with the games generally retaining the numbering but adding in a subtitle that makes things confusing over the contents of the story.

1 Suspiciously Similar

It seems as if the series might have taken a shortcut with presenting a new storyline, as Final Fantasy XII’s plot reads suspiciously similar to Star Wars. The latter series has had a huge impact on the mainstream market, so this assertion might not be unfounded.

In fact, if you were to replace the names of the characters and the space backdrop from Star Wars, the majority of stuff would play out similarly in Final Fantasy XII. Looks like this meme just outed Square Enix for turning Star Wars into a fantasy game.
