It Takes Two is an incredibly unique game for a variety of reasons. In Hazelight Studios’ most recent title, two players take control of a couple on the edge of divorce as they are somehow trapped in the body of two wooden dolls.

If you are still itching for more games about relationships after going through It Takes Two, any of the ten games below deal with couples in one way or another. These are not co-op and the relationships in question are different than the dynamic in It Takes Two, but this just goes to show how distinct everything in the new title is.

10 Uncharted 4

By the start of Uncharted 4, Nathan Drake and Elena Fisher are happily married and living a calm life. Their relationship is strained once Drake goes behind her back to help his long lost brother.

Once Elena finds out, it almost ends their marriage. However, she eventually comes back to help Drake in his time of need. Seeing the two’s relationship blossom over four games is a treat.

9 Dream Daddy

Most of the games on this list are about already-existing relationships. The highly-acclaimed visual novel and dating simulator Dream Daddy involves you, taking the role of a single father, trying to court and romance other single fathers.

The game has multiple outcomes for the dates. In addition to the LGBT representation seeing praise, the writing is also extremely funny. The game was developed and published by Game Grumps, a webseries known for its Let’s Plays.

8 Red Dead Redemption

To get the full picture of John and Abigail Marston’s relationship, you need to play both Red Dead Redemption and its 2018 prequel, Red Dead Redemption 2.

In the first game, you see John desperately trying to get his family back. In the prequel, he starts off as an extremely reluctant father who eventually turns into someone who would do anything to save them. Let us not forget that he is able to do this all because of Arthur Morgan.

7 Life Is Strange: Before The Storm

The Life Is Strange series is all about relationships, whether they be romantic, platonic, or familial. Before The Storm is a prequel to the first game and is all about emotional turbulence.

The intense family drama deals with a long-lost mother and a father reluctant to let his daughter meet her biological mother. In true Life Is Strange fashion, you might be in tears by the time the credits roll.

6 Final Fantasy 10

Final Fantasy games usually involve romance of some sort, but Final Fantasy 10 takes things to new heights with the way Tidus and Yuna fall in love during the story. In addition to these two, Wakka and Lulu are an already established couple accompanying the two main characters as a part of the party.

Being the first game in the series to include voice acting, it was able to reach new emotional levels with the performances; you’ll just have to forgive it for the infamous laughing scene.

5 Mass Effect

Mass Effect is not about one specific relationship. As Commander Shepard, you are able to romance just about everything that moves. All of those jokes people have about Captain Kirk on Star Trek work doubly so for the protagonist in Mass Effect.

Players will have a chance to relive all the best romances again this May when the trilogy is re-released. Additionally, we wonder if the next mainline Mass Effect will similarly offer a variety of romance options.

4 Grand Theft Auto 5

There is so much going on in Grand Theft Auto 5, it is difficult to remember that a main part of the plot involves Michael De Santa’s deteriorating relationship with his wife. Additionally, he is also losing touch with his children.

While falling back into a life of crime is generally seen as a negative thing, Michael is in a better place by the game’s ending. While the couple in It Takes Two is dysfunctional, at least neither of them is a criminal psychopath.

3 Last Of Us Part 2

This game dives deep into several different kinds of relationships. Joel and Ellie have a father and daughter dynamic, while Ellie and Dina are deeply in love but go through troubles of their own throughout the long campaign.

On the other side is Abby and her ex-boyfriend, Owen. Despite the breakup, they end up having a night of passion even though Owen already has a girlfriend. This being The Last of Us, you can expect things not to end well and with you potentially in tears.

2 Monkey Island

These adventure games are classics. Behind all the comedy is a blossoming relationship between Guybrush Threepwood and Elaine Marley. The two start off as complete strangers and eventually get married.

The most recent entry, Tales Of Monkey Island, is centered around their relationship. Having been over a decade since the most recent entry, we’d love to see a new game showing where their relationship is after so many years.

1 Braid

Braid seems like a traditional story about a hero saving a princess at first. Dive further into the game and solve more of the intense puzzles to unlock the true ending. The relationship between the protagonist Tim and the princess he is trying to save turns out to be significantly more complicated.

The brilliance of Braid is how the puzzle mechanics, mainly dealing with time manipulation, play into the narrative.
