Did the Paranormal Activity franchise make you rethink that Microsoft Kinect purchase? If so, you likely aren’t the only one. The premise of Paranormal Activity is terrifying. It touches on our most basic fears: the fact that an invisible force could be in your home right now… and it doesn’t have friendly intentions.

These films dabble in everything from clever time travel to possession. The basic premise of this film is about an evil presence that follows various members of a family. The movies go from the 80s up to the present day. So, are you a fan of these films? Want to play games that mirror these movies? Check out our list below.

10 Silent Hill

Yes, this one should be at the top of your list. Much like Paranormal Activity, Silent Hill is all about cult events, child sacrifice, and evil secrets. The plotlines of these media pieces are so similar that it is worth it to wonder if Paranormal Activity borrowed from this one.

In both, the atmospheres are moody, unsettling, and downright eerie. With the exception of Silent Hill using nightmarish and visible monsters, these pieces of media are pretty similar. They both involve the possession of a child. How scarier could you get?

9 Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem

This game toys with you. With its sanity meter, if your character gets too scared as you move through levels, then you could lose your head, or your television can “turn off.”

In this game, the plot follows the dark secrets of a family through the ages. Sound familiar? Paranormal Activity also toys with you. There are times where you don’t know for sure—especially in the first movie—if something odd is going on. However, much like Eternal Darkness, it becomes evident that something entirely wrong.

8 Blair Witch

Yes, it’s time to give a thumbs-up to the other legendary found-footage horror franchise. However, this time, it is in video game form. In this 2019 title, you are tasked with moving through a forest to find a missing child, with only your dog at your side.

This game gets really weird very quickly. There are odd symbols all over the forest, and you can look forward to being chased by an invisible force at various points in the game. It makes you feel as helpless as the characters in Paranormal Activity. It’s definitely a worthwhile experience.

7 Remothered: Tormented Fathers

Supernatural and evil nuns, cult activity, and dangerous family secrets…. Remothered: Tormented Fathers has many of the tropes visible in the Paranormal Activity franchise. Now, the story is a bit convoluted, which it also shares with Paranormal Activity, but this game produces the same stress and creepiness that Paranormal Activity brings to viewers. There is a lot to figure out in this game, but it’s equal parts fun and creepy.

6 Visage

What at first was seen as a P.T. clone ended up becoming a must-experience horror game in its own right. Much like Paranormal Activity, Visage has you move through various past “moments” that some characters have experienced to tell a bigger story. This point is where the creepiness starts.

Doors can lock or open on their own, bulbs can go out, and horrifying imagery can occur at any time. Ultimately, you feel like you are totally out of control, which adds to the horror.

5 P.T.

Who remembers that moment in the first Paranormal Activity when Katie got a little “influenced?” It’s a turning point in the movie and franchise. This trend also took place in the second movie with Kristi. Well, if you have a thing for media with “possessed-like” women, then look no further than this title.

Lisa, the tortured ghost chasing you in this P.T., stalks you and won’t let up until she is a part of you. There is so much about the atmosphere in this game that evokes the feelings you feel while watching Paranormal Activity. It’s a must-play. Too bad Konami has done everything to bury its existence.

4 Layers Of Fear

Much of Paranormal Activity takes place in residential spaces. It intensifies the horror as it makes everything in these movies feel so personal and close-to-home. Layers of Fear also capitalizes on this technique.

The entirety of the game takes place in a Victorian mansion. Your objective is to finish a painting while fighting nightmarish visions. It’s unsettling and makes you feel claustrophobic at times, just like various scenes within the Paranormal Activity franchise.

3 Home Sweet Home

There is so much to unpack here. This game is the quintessential Paranormal Activity-like experience. In this title, you play as a man looking for his missing wife. This guy has to battle an evil spirit to solve the mystery. You are at the mercy of the spirit, which is precisely the way Paranormal Activity plays out. It’s immersive and really challenges you to face your fear of the unknown. It’s a fan-favorite title on Steam for a reason.

2 Outlast 2

Someone could compare both Outlast and Outlast 2 to Paranormal Activity, but the second title edges out the first since it has a spiritual edge that includes cults and religious fanaticism. In addition to the religious side of this game, Outlast 2 leaves you utterly defenseless.

Like the first title, there is no way to defend yourself, which definitely makes you feel like the characters in Paranormal Activity. The people in these movies have no way to protect themselves. These pieces of media expertly use the feature of being defenseless to drive the story. If you like seeing this challenge play out in Paranormal Activity, Outlast 2 is worth the playthrough. It will be interesting to see if the upcoming sequel, The Outlast Trials also has this same atmosphere.

1 Resident Evil 7

Out of all of the titles on this list, Resident Evil 7 is likely the one that really gives off the vibes of Paranormal Activity the most. Possessed girlfriends, a murderous family, and possible supernatural happenings highlight this insane return to form for Capcom.

There is a tension that builds the moment this game starts. Much like Layers of Fear and Paranormal Activity, most of the action takes place in a home, which makes the journey feel even more personal. It’s crazy, intense, and a thrill ride, much like Paranormal Activity.
