Unfortunately, The Last of Us Part II has been delayed indefinitely, so the stark message is that it’s time to shift our focus to other games.

While the following games are not from The Last of Us series, or developer Naughty Dog for that matter, they are similar in some ways. Here is a list of games to tide you over while we wait insufferably for The Last of Us Part II to release.

10 The Walking Dead (Telltale Series)

Telltale Games has established itself as one of the leading developers despite being a company that experienced “major studio closures” in 2018. The company has since rebounded after being acquired by LCG Entertainment.

One of Telltale Games’ most recognizable games is The Walking Dead. Season 1 of TheWalking Dead received acclaim, including the “Game of the Year” award at the 2012 Spike Video Game Awards.  There are plenty of parallels that make The Walking Dead similar to The Last of Us. Clementine and Lee’s relationship is akin to that of Joel and Ellie’s.

9 Dying Light

The zombie survival atmosphere of Dying Light is both distinct and comparable to that of The Last of Us. The two games’ most obvious similarity is that they both are part of the survival horror genre. However, Dying Light has nonlinear gameplay since the game is open-world, whereas The Last of Us is more focused and story-intensive. We are eagerly waiting for Dying Light 2, which is anticipated to release sometime in 2020.

8 God Of War

Just when we thought Kratos was down and out, he made a return in God of War (2018). This time around, Kratos’s late wife, Laufey, had asked that her ashes be dispersed at the highest peak of the nine realms. Only by playing the game do you realize how daunting this task becomes.

God of War is an excellent game to play while waiting for The Last of Us Part II because it also features a memorable duo. As father and son, we see their bond develop throughout the game. This bond is akin to that of Joel and Ellie’s.

7 Dead Rising 3

In a post-apocalyptic world where zombies run rampant, the only thing that matters is survival. Albeit it’s an Xbox One and PC exclusive, Dead Rising 3 is possibly the strongest entry in the Dead Rising series. While you’re waiting for The Last of Us Part II, there are other options for zombie apocalypse games like Dead Rising 3.

The gameplay of both games are different, but for those looking for a multiplayer-enabled zombie game, Dead Rising 3 is an excellent place to look. The gameplay alone will leave you speechless.

6 Death Stranding

As possibly the most divisive game to release for the PlayStation 4, players have mixed opinions about Death Stranding. The graphics and storytelling are phenomenal, but many players criticize it for being an intricate delivery game.

From the genius mind of Hideo Kojima, this is the first game to come from Kojima Productions since Kojima split with developer Konami. Death Stranding’s price has since dropped, so it’s worth trying if you’re looking for something out of the ordinary.

5 Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

As another game from developer Naughty Dog, we recommend you play Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. The game contains many easter eggs from previous Naughty Dog games like The Last of Us and Crash Bandicoot.

The story is immersive. It contains an epilogue that is particularly exciting, so make sure you play this one all the way through. You’ll learn much about Nathan Drake’s backstory, making Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End a must-play.

4 Ratchet & Clank

Ratchet & Clank is a hit PlayStation 4 exclusive that features one of the console’s recognizable characters. Sure, there are more Ratchet & Clank games on previous PlayStation consoles, but none are as cinematic. Playing the game is like watching a Pixar movie and experiencing the best the PlayStation 4 has to offer.

3 Metro Exodus

When we think of Metro Exodus, we think of games like Fallout, GoldenEye 007, and many more. Metro Exodus is an overlooked series, but it’s quite enticing. Be warned, the game has frame drops and loading issues on a regular Xbox One. It plays better on a PS4 Pro or Xbox One X. This is one story-driven first-person shooter you need to play!

2 A Plague Tale: Innocence

A Plague Tale: Innocence is comparable to The Last of Us, with the most obvious comparison being that it has two main protagonists. The art direction is spectacular, and the story will leave you on the edge of your seat. The story of A Plague Tale: Innocence is both grim and filled with anguish. It’s a game you can’t put down, just like The Last of Us.

1 The Last Of Us Remastered

And so we come to the end of this listicle. The Last of Us Remastered is the best way to experience The Last of Us campaign, as well as play the Left Behind DLC. As many know by now, The Last of Us Part II was delayed indefinitely. It could be a while until we play the sequel, but at least we have the original.

This game has tremendous replay value, and the graphics are breathtaking despite being a PlayStation 3 release. The Left Behind DLC gives us closure to The Last of Us and is a good filler before The Last of Us Part II.
