In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past couple of days, people seem to be talking about nothing but GameStop, Reddit, and how a group of Redditors and retail stock traders are owning the stock market.

Basically, what happened is that a group of Redditors actually managed to organize and buy GameStop stocks. This made the stock price go up while hedge funds (who had their money in short sellings against the company) started to worry because they were beginning to lose a lot of money. In short, this whole thing feels like a cyberwar between two very different factions. And like anything that goes viral, people are making memes about it.

10 Parkour Moves

Since the GME stock drama went viral, many folks are just now finding out that Reddit exists and how it works. However, the platform has been around since 2005. People go there and scroll throughout their timeline, reading about news, sharing personal stories, and feeling part of a community.

Still, this is the internet, and of course, one of the most shared contents are memes. If you logged into Reddit a few days ago, all you would see is the Bernie Sanders’s meme where he is sitting during Joe Biden’s inauguration. However, in just a blink of an eye, the Reddit army attacked, resulting in the GME memes becoming the new meta.

9 There’s Hope For Everyone

Everyone wants to get on board this GME stocks roller coaster, from all-time investors trying to ride the bubble to simple folk just looking to send a message. However, companies see an opportunity in this as well, as Redditors basically proved that nothing is a bad investment if they have a say in the matter.

So, long-forgotten companies like Blockbuster, Toys R Us, or Blackberry can have some hope knowing that people on the internet can make them relevant (and profitable) again. After all, who knows who’s next? (Well, probably r/wallstreetbets)

8 Do You Want Some In-Store Credit?

It’s all fun and games until people realize they have to sell their GME stock to make money. Should they wait for the stock price to keep going up? Or sell right now and make as much as they can. Whatever they choose, at least they can all agree its a relief GameStop itself isn’t in charge of the stock price.

After all, the video game store is infamous for giving customers low in-store credit for their used games, even when GameStop will resell said game for a much higher price.

7 What Is Going On?

It doesn’t matter if you’re a wall street big fish or just the average joe; nobody was expecting that a bunch of people would organize in a subreddit and plan a coordinated attack on the Wall Street stock market. Still, no one was more surprised than actual Redditors who one day closed the website only to return a couple of days later to a feed filled with stock news.

Now, all Redditors seem to talk about is GameStop re-emerging from the dead, Google deleting thousands of bad reviews on the RobinHood App and AOC, Ted Cruz, and Elon Musk being on the same side.

6 An Official Member Of The Big Boys Club

The GameStop stock situation created a lot of drama, chaos, and side effects. For example, some people are getting a lot of money while others lose money by the second.

5 It’s Animal Crossing’s Fault

The trading concept and what actually happens in the stock market might seem foreign to a lot of people. Still, for a particular group of gamers, speculation and knowing when to get in and out of the market is part of their gaming experience.

We are talking, of course, of Animal Crossing fans. For quite some time, this franchise has had the Turnip Market, a feature that allowed players to make tons of bells by, you guessed it, buying and selling turnips. This system taught long time fans and New Horizons’ newcomers how the stock market works. So it really isn’t a big surprise that people used what they learned in the game and applied it to real life.

4 Saved By The Internet

With GameStop skyrocketing’s stock prices, there’s no doubt that the Reddit army saved the company from Hedge-funds that made short sellings against the video game store.

However, this isn’t the first time people on the internet came together for a noble cause. Who can’t forget when memes about the Sonic movie were everywhere, making fun of Sonic’s first design. This forced the people behind the film to re-model how Sony looked, changing his design for a less nightmare-inducing design one—saving the movie and children’s dreams everywhere in the process.

3 Everybody’s Victory

While seeing the memes and the news all over social media might make you feel like you’re part of the winning party (especially if you’re a long-time Redditor), the truth is that this all started in one platform and in a specific subreddit. Meaning only a small group of people are the ones who should have the credit.

Nevertheless, Reddit is all about community, so it’s okay to share the joy. Besides, after the rollercoaster of emotions that was 2020, everyone deserves a win.

2 Hedge Funds Aren’t Safe

When the stimulus check rolled, many people said that it would be a good idea to invest that money instead of, you know, spending it on impulsive shopping. And you know what? Some people actually listened, and those extra $600 from Stimulus Checks went directly into meme stocks.

Surprisingly, things worked out, with GME and other stocks prices going up. Now, those folks who invested the money received for earning under $75,000 a year are currently making a sizeable profit and taking down multi-millionaires Hedge Funds in the process.

1 You Can Rest Now

While this whole GameStop stock thing seems like all fun and games, like any viral topic, it can get real old quick, especially if you have zero interest in the Stock Market or have no clue about what’s going on or why it’s groundbreaking.

Sometimes people just want to aimlessly browse the internet without being bombarded with tons of memes about something they don’t care about or are tired of hearing about. So to all of you out there, here’s this one.
