There aren’t exactly a lot of “hidden areas” in Biomutant. Most everything is labeled on the map and any area that’s “hidden” usually has one of the many side quests tied to it that would give the player a waypoint right towards it. This game is a weird one, and that’s part of the reason the reception has been so mixed.
So, with that in mind, here are a bunch of areas in Biomutant that people either might not know exist, hold some rare/ultimate gear, or hide some truly unique mounts.
10 The Mutation Pools
Let’s get this out of the way first since most players will eventually end up stumbling across these things. But, for the players who don’t, or the ones who didn’t even think to get close enough to interact with these Mutation Pools, here’s where they’re about. Mutation Pools are the way you can re-adjust your character’s appearance after the introduction, a feature that not many people even knew existed. And, all of them are hidden within the Biohazard areas of the map, directly under the dilapidated Nuclear Reactors.
To get to them, you usually have to follow the same method of finding the closed-off dome, killing the enemies outside of it, prying it open with their Klawbar, and following it all the way to the Mutation Pool. So, it’s not exactly difficult or obtuse to get to them, but they’re still decently well-hidden.
9 The Old World Vaults
The Old World Vaults are spread out all across the map, and there are eight of them in total. The first one, funnily enough, is right next to Bricktown, which is right next to where the tutorial drops you off. All of them have their own insane weapon or weapon part inside, and players will have to fight a boss-type enemy around the location of each one to obtain the key that opens the door.
Once one is opened, a side quest becomes pin-able that points to the next one, so they stop being “secret” at that point. However, you can still go the entire game without coming across one, so it’s good to know they exist beforehand.
8 The Riddleroom
The Riddleroom is honestly one of the only areas in the game that feels like a true “secret location”. This hidden area is located in the bottom right corner of the map, directly to the right of the Porky Puffy place.
To open it, players have to gain access to a nearby island. After opening it, you’ll then have to solve a rather easy runestone puzzle. Once that’s done, all that’s left is to grab the Pri Murgel Sword out of the stone, which is honestly one of the best weapons in the game.
7 The Lair Of The Batnam Mount
You can unlock this hidden mount very early on, but it does require exploring the map much earlier than the developers likely intended. To obtain the unique Batnam mount, you’ll have to complete all of Pebble’s, one of the games many NPCs, available side quests. The first task Pebble asks of you is to find and summit three different “climbing spots” spread far from each other throughout the map.
The next task is similar, with Pebble asking you to test three Ziplines as well. And, after turning this second quest in, Pebble gives you access to the wall behind him, and you can follow a series of climbing walls (and a zipline) to get to the Batnam nest! The Batnam isn’t incredible or anything as a mount, but its ability to glide is better than the Automaton’s, which is pretty impressive.
6 Where The Four Biohazard Suits Are Kept
The Elemental-Resistance Suits are a feature that the game directly points you towards, yet it is still possible to miss them. Basically, The first time you enter any of the “hazardous” types of biomes, you’ll trigger a cutscene where the Ronin reacts to the hazard of the biome, and then the side quest to find the related resistance suit will pop up to track.
However, as this is a game where random side quests are constantly being doled out, players can miss the fact that they even got this quest in the first place.
5 The Location Of The Blaze Gloves
This next one is for all you Psi-Freak builds out there who were excited to see the “Spark Gloves” their class started with, only to find out there’s no way to craft other unarmed gloves like them. Luckily, the Blaze Gloves exist, but you’ll need to get past the first World Eater boss to access the NPC that has them.
Boom is the aforementioned NPC, and he’s an explosives expert who has a few tasks for you. He’s not exactly crucial to the story, so a lot of people have missed him so far. That said, if you finish his requests, he’ll let you take the Blaze Gloves, which are pretty amazing.
4 Sol’s Library, The Island It’s On, & His Trunk
Coming up next is a side quest in a location you will only be able to access after completing another series of quests to unlock a blimp. In the far north of the map is a location called the Kluppy Dunes. It’s a desert-type biome, so you’ll need a lot of fire resistance to survive. And, across a large patch of deadly Goop (or oil by our human terms), is an island where an NPC called Sol resides, along with his library.
To get here, players have to complete another optional quest that unlocks a blimp. Now, it might not seem like it was worth it to get the Gullblimp for a single side quest, but, considering the reward from this side quest is a briefcase backpack that lets you hover in the air, it’s well worth the effort.
3 Where The Pee-Wee Gargantua Is Kept
The Pee-Wee Gargantua is yet another unique mount found at a “hidden” location in Biomutant. To get this one, you’ll have to get through a side quest given by another NPC named Gill. After talking to him and completing his rather easy side quest where players just need to defend him for a bit, Gill will ask the Ronin to free the Pee-Wee from some bandits that caught it. Follow the waypoint, and players should stumble across Brug’s Camp, which is a bandit camp.
Found at the back of this camp, after clearing it out, of course, is the Gargantua, and the rope holding it up will now have an “interact” prompt that wasn’t there before. After freeing it, this mount can be used like the Googlide, but it’s just about better in every way.
2 The Googlide Wrekboxes, The Seventh One In Particular
That said, for players who love the Googlide and all the customizable options for it, there are ways to keep it viable in comparison to the Gargantua. To do this, players need to hunt down the Googlide Cases, which are these big boxes covered in flotation devices that hold new parts for the Googlide.
Once they interact with one, they can use the side quest to hunt down the rest of them. However, the seventh one might seem impossible to get, considering it’s behind a natural rock wall that the Klonk Fist can’t seem to break. Well, just progress through the main story until you get the Mjut mount which can pull down walls, and this closed-off Wrekbox is suddenly accessible.
1 The Goat The Ronin Protects From Lupa-Lupin
Lastly, here’s an odd little location (and yet another mount) that leads to a very early battle with Lupa-Lupin. Players can stumble upon this location right above a place called Whereabouts, right after they get past the painfully long tutorial.
Wandering around, you’ll stumble across a Putignoat in a field, and then a cutscene occurs where Lupa-Lupin, the final boss of the game, just shows up to hunt the Gnoat and you have to defend it. It’s an incredibly odd “quest” and mount that many people missed, considering players wouldn’t usually go toe-to-toe with Lupin until the end of the campaign.
