The stand out type of the 1st generation, mostly due to Pikachu’s rise to superstardom as Ash’s sidekick. Electric also happens to have some of the most unique designs in the series, with Game Freak operating at the peak of their creative skills.
While being different is a positive, it also leaves the Pokemon wide open for some comedic missiles. With the likes of Zebstrika and Vikavolt roaming around, it’s no wonder fans have taken a particular liking to mocking the voltaic beasts.
10 The Static Look
Dragon types have long been a touchy subject for Pokemon fans, with a lot of questionable decisions being made as to what Pokemon deserve the title. With the likes of Gyrados, Alolan Exeggutor, and Mega Ampharos listed under Dragon type, it’s no wonder the community is a little confused.
Despite the typing of Mega Ampharos, it has to win the flashiest hair competition. Blowing every other Pokemon out of the water with its luscious locks, any shampoo brand would be lucky to have the white mane in it’s marketing campaign.
9 Topsy-Turvy
Throughout the now 8 generations of Pokemon, players have seen their fair share of designs that look like something drawn in a high school notebook. However, Voltorb and Electrode slipped through the cracks and their basic design now lives in nostalgia.
Both Electric-types look like a pokeball with some eyes slapped on, the only obvious differences between the two being their alternating colors. Even though the creative juices weren’t exactly flying when these 2 were created, OG fans will know that two eyes and a mouth is more than enough to express their personalities.
8 The Forgotten Pokemon
While Rotom should have been a scary concept, the Electric/Ghost type is essentially a poltergeist that takes over the electronic device it chooses. This lead to the creation of the Rotom Dex, a Pokedex that’s got extra perks and features as a consequence of being possessed by the darling spirit.
The newer generations have recently taken the idea of HM slaves and given certain Pokemon full time jobs, taking away from the mystery while making certain parts of the game much easier. Rotom falls victim to this trend and is now seen as more of a tool than a companion.
7 The Real You
Toxtricity is one of the new additions to the cool gang in the Pokemon universe, not a legendary or super boosted battle prodigy, it stands out from the rest strictly based on swagger. Both of its regular forms keep it smooth until it hits the mega evolution, transforming into the ramped up lizard we always wanted.
While it’s not exactly flattering, most people will look back on times they’ve galloped up the stairs for one reason or another. It’s not even faster or more efficient than a simple run yet the majority will look back in the memory bank and find this little gem rattling around.
6 Join The Dark Side
Morpeko is a prime example of how the cuter a thing is, the more terrifying it is when it turns. It’s the reason horror movies use kids from time to time, tricking the viewer into a false sense of security.
Luckily for fans, there’s nothing supernatural about Morpeko’s transformation. The little guy just needs some food, turning it into a Dark-type and changing the plan drastically. Though it does change at the end of every turn, making fans wonder whether it’s got a hummingbird’s metabolism or just a greedy nature.
5 Life Choices
Sometimes a good joke can hit a little close to home, making us take a step back and look at ourselves at our worst. While it sounds like a good idea at the time, pigging out always leaves the culprit a lot worse than when they started.
Although Raticate was never the prettiest flower in the garden, it definitely went downhill for the rat in Alola. Almost the exact opposite direction of the cheery Alolan Raichu who seems to have since hit the treadmill and slimmed down from the Kanto days.
4 Run Away Blues
The 2nd generation of Pokemon also brought with it some of the most challenging legendary hunts to date. With 1 of the 3 showing up randomly in the tall grass with no warning, players had better hope they had something to stun it with or they’d quickly run away.
Raikou was the most powerful Electric-type in the known world in generation 2, making catching it all the more tempting. The delicate process of finding and disabling it to be caught was a long road, one paved with the tears of the many frustrated failures along the way.
3 Who’s That Pokemon?
Wooloo has taken its place at the top of the cute leaderboard since its debut in generation 8, leaving some salty veterans in its wake. Just going to show how fair-weather these fans can be, poor Mareep has now been left out in the cold.
Sporting an even more creative design and more battle use, this static sheep used to be a fan favourite before the young buck came into town. Maybe it’s the big round eyes or cloudy wool, either way this sheep pioneer is slowly getting left in the shadows.
2 So Close, Yet So Far
Moving off the topic of its basic appearance, Electrode has some distinctive skills that set it away from the rest of the pack. One of these being the tendency to use Self Destruct, a move that will deal massive damage to the enemy while making itself faint.
While it probably doesn’t make too much sense if it’s alone in the wild, that’s not going to stop Electrode from using it. This makes finding any Electrode a sensitive situation, let alone a shiny. Not only will the player miss out on a rare catch, Electrode will probably take out a Pokemon on the way.
1 The Real Brag
One of the very rare occasions where finding a shiny Pokemon didn’t require either incredible luck or patience, a shiny Zeraora was given to players with Pokemon Home after a mass raid to take down the beast.
This makes having a regular version of the mythical was only offered to people in specific promotional releases, making it more exclusive noteworthy than the mass gift that many fans recieved and bringing down its worth by a lot.
