The newest type to hit the Pokemon scene has definitely made a statement in its short time, taking some of the most iconic pokémon and combining them with fresh faces. This comes with a fair share of both negatives and positives, leaving the fan base divided over the juvenile type.

The best thing about failures is the gold standard comedy that tends to follow, taking the fans’ issues and making it all a little less frustrating. Making it a little easier to make fun of, Fairy-types have some of the most colourful and peculiar characters in the series. Taking the cutest examples of the series, it gets easier to poke fun at the loveable bunch when they try and step outside their bubble.

10 The Scary Fairy

Going down as the highest ratio of adorable pokémon, the Fairy-types aren’t exactly known for being menacing or intimidating in any way…until Xerneas. Taking a more elegant approach while keeping hold of some menacing energy when things get rough.

The legendary was bound to bring a little more to the table, showing what’s really possible in the type while still maintaining the aesthetic that has brought so much attention to the type.

9 Cheap Work

Another legendary, Zacian is essentially an armoured pooch with a sharp sword. A surprisingly basic take for a legendary, especially with all the high effort designs that have come out in the past.

While their backstory definitely holds up, both legendary dogs are essentially pups with medieval gear on. Taking the titles of Sword & Shield and taking it a little too literally, these legendaries do little to show their Fairy side at all.

8 A Tasty Surprise

Alcremie is the culmination of 8 generations of cute pokémon all coming together, creating a bakery fairy that’s main goal is to put a smile on fans’ faces. This is only intensified in its Gigantamax form, turning into a 5 layer cake that only the likes of Sir Snorlax could take on.

One of the only G-max forms that gets more inviting after the change, Alcremie won’t let anyone leave the arena without a serious case of the sweet tooth.

7 Fancy Dress

I think the last suspect anyone ever expected to be on a list of Fairy pokémon is Weezing, known for leaking out poisonous gas and sounding like a life long smoker. That’s why it came as great shock when Galarian Weezing turned out to be the exact opposite.

Taking in the pollution and expelling clean air, this version also dons a respectable top hat that’s sure to show up any competitors. Poison to Fairy might be the most dramatic twist of types that Pokémon has come up with to date.

6 Crossover Plays

One of the rare few to have made it out of the Pokémon solar system and into the greater Nintendo universe, Jigglypuff has been such an integral part of the series that they brought it into the Smash series.

Although not a popular choice, some high level players have chosen to commit to mainlining the singing trouble maker. Elevating Jigglypuff’s status from gimmick to legitimate very quickly and putting the Fairy-type’s reputation on the map from the very beginning.

5 Imposter

Nearing Charizard levels of type confusion, Celebi not being a Fairy-type is a real head-scratcher. Becoming especially confusing when fans realize that Granbull, the grouchy bulldog, is now a pure-bred Fairy.

It’s very clear where the inspiration for Celebi came from, everything down to its tiny little wings remind fans of a grassy Tinker Bell. Time Travelling through the land while using its psychic powers, if there was ever a pokémon to change, this is it.

4 Mood Shift

Mimikyu is singlehandedly the most disturbing creation to come out of Pokémon. Wearing a disguise that resembles a demented Pikachu, nobody ever really sees the true creature lurking beneath the outfit.

Splitting its talents between Ghost/Fairy, it sounds like it should be great use in battle. However, the game really lets down the eerie image that has been built up, making it an easy defeat. The show tells a different story with Mimikyu coming closer to the darker side of Game Freak’s Frankenstein.

3 The Useless One

Klefki highlights some key low points in the Fairy-type, being mildly cute and relying on that to carry it to legitimacy. In this new day and age of Pokémon, everything sub-par gets found out very quickly and discarded.

Not even having the benefit of evolving into a more capable form, Klefki is left as the unwanted Fairy that nobody asked for. It’s unique Fairy/Steel type combination had potential that was wasted on this poor execution.

2 Bipolar Beats

Probably the most accurate meme on the list, peoples music tastes usually swing across a few different genres. Causing some serious mood shifts when flipping through music, Galarian Ponyta and Spectrier are the yin and yang of the soul.

Spectrier looking like it came fresh out of an early 2000s emo band while Ponyta gives off some intense My Little Pony energy. They couldn’t be more different while being so close to the same, Spectrier’s side eye is one of the most telling things about the whole scene.

1 The Replacement

Seeing as the Fairy-type was only officially part of the games in generation 6, one of its key members almost beat out Pikachu all the way back in generation 1 for Ash’s sidekick. A choice that would have shifted the entire franchise and brought us into a strange new time.

While many fans would revolt against the idea of replacing everyone’s favourite yellow mouse, there probably would have been a laundry list of new content that never came to light with Pikachu. Knowing how close we all came to a Fairy-type main shows just how big of an impact the type has had, even if it’s unofficial.
