Mario is the master of multitasking. He somehow finds time to save princesses, go go-karting, and play tennis. He also has time to host elaborate parties as depicted in the Mario Party games. While not many of these titles are considered among the plumber’s best, there have still been some fantastic installments.
What’s more, the series has cultivated a loyal fanbase, who like to show their appreciation through memes. Along with making fun of the games themselves, these memes also poke fun at the people playing. This is because, in all honesty, Mario Party doesn’t always bring out the best in players. So if you are a fan, you may find some of them relatable.
10 Ruining Friendships
In a typical game of Mario Party, there is ample opportunity for you to screw over your friends. For example, you can steal their belongings or use items on them. It’s the most efficient way to win, and your opponents will utilize similar tactics.
However, it means that by the end of a game, the relationships between all of the players become a little strained. However, it’s a small price to pay for victory.
9 The Originals
Super Mario Party is regarded as one of the best Mario titles on the Switch and a return to form for the series. It ditches the group vehicle from the recent entries and adds more ways to screw friends over.
However, many believe the title still pales in comparison to the ones of old. The original installments have a certain nostalgia factor that can’t be beaten, while they were also quite innovative in their era.
8 Stealing Is Fun In Mario Party
As much as the series has changed throughout the years, stealing Stars remains an important aspect of the game.
Not only does it help you win but it also damages your opponent in the process. There is also no denying that there is a certain evil pleasure that comes with this sort of theft. Getting a star simply by making your way to it isn’t nearly as satisfying.
7 Bad Luck Star Spawns
Luck plays a substantial role in winning any game of Mario Party. Where you land or whether you win certain minigames is all down to chance.
Equally random is the location of the star. The precious item appears at a different part of the map every time someone collects one. Every veteran player has felt the pain of seeing it spawn one space behind them, meaning they need to travel around the entire board to get it.
6 Friction Burn
While the first Mario Party has some of the best boards and minigames in the series, it’s not a perfect game as it can cause bodily harm.
This is because many of its minigames require competitors to jiggle the stick on the N64 controller. As the stick is so awkward to use, most find it best to shake it using their entire hand. It helps lead them to victory, but it also leaves them with friction burns and perhaps even cuts on their palms.
5 Ready, Yeah!
A new feature added in Super Mario Party is the ability to win some extra coins at the end of team victories (in party mode). All players have to do is swing their arm at the right time to initiate a group high-five.
The game doesn’t force people to do it, though, so some decide to refrain. Their reluctance robs the more willing players of a few coins and seeing a wholesome scene.
4 The Dangers Of Parties
The series has some truly strange minigames, especially considering the game has “Party” in the title. Ordinary parties don’t generally involve life-threatening activities and death-defying stunts.
Yet, Mario isn’t like most people, so he invites his friends round to either ruin or end their lives. It comes as no surprise, though, as his go-karting and sporting events are just as dangerous.
3 Splatoon
Not every minigame can be among the greatest in the series. Mario Party 8’s “Paint Misbehavin,” for instance, isn’t one of the franchise’s best efforts. The game tasks you with shooting a bunch of Goombas with paint. Once the timer reaches zero, the person or team with the most Goombas in their color wins.
It’s a lot like Splatoon, except it’s so easy to quickly hit the targets that only the last few seconds of the game really matter. Plus, it doesn’t have all the features of the colorful shooter.
2 Everyone’s Invited
It’s fair to say that Mario and Bowser have always had a turbulent relationship. Yet, according to this meme, the little plumber still invites his mortal enemy over for his parties.
Now, in all fairness, Bowser tends to show up regardless of whether he receives an invite or not, and he often plays a major role in the festivities to the frustration of Mario and company. He sometimes even fully takes over the game and snatches people’s Stars.
1 The Ultimate Game Changer
A win in Mario Party is never secure. You can spend most of your time owning minigames, picking up Stars, and generally dominating, and it all can be taken away with “Chance Time” (or equivalent).
If someone lands on one of these spaces, then things get switched around. For instance, many heartbroken players in the past have had to swap all of their stars with someone who has zero. While it gives everybody a chance to win, do people with zero coins and Stars really deserve such an opportunity?
