A majority of console gamers are stalking the PS5 and Xbox Series X retailer pages - anxiously anticipating that “add to cart” button. Others are taking daily drives to Target and bringing their sleeping bags to GameStop. Console availability is limited in the first place and scalpers are grabbing them up within seconds.
It’s an understatement to say the console hunt is stressful, especially if you’re anticipating the Demon’s Soul’s remake, the Xbox’s Quick Resume function, and any other console exclusive content. Hopefully, these memes will bring some levity to the taxing console pursuit. Both consoles can relate to these memes even though the PS5 dominates most of the internet jokes.
8 Oh Deer
Wal-Mart was one of the few retailers to announce time slots for their PS5 online drops. Of course, this gave scalpers more time to prepare, and an influx of gamers running to their website. As one would expect, it did not handle the traffic well. When the website crashed, gamers were met with a deer donning antlers and the phrase “Oh Deer.” This may be a cute way to inform customers of website malfunctions, but it actually made several people grow a deep hatred for deer.
7 A Scalper’s Paradise
Speaking of Wal-Mart, the retailer had no bot protection for the waves of PS5 drops. The console went out of stock within seconds. For many gamers, Wal-Mart was a second chance to snatch the PS5 if they missed out on the initial launch. Sadly, many people couldn’t even add it to their cart. PlayStation 5 consoles did conveniently start showing up on eBay for ludicrous prices shortly after.
6 Don’t Do It!
This is a public service announcement. Please don’t get a new console through scalpers selling them at ridiculous prices. It’s tempting when PS5 and Xbox Series X videos start popping up online and your favorite video game personalities start playing them. You feel left out and behind the console times. Try to resist. Don’t give in and encourage the scalpers to continue scooping up consoles for a profit.
5 So Close Yet So Far
It feels like a train hits you when new consoles go out of stock, orders get canceled, and websites crash. Every time new consoles go in stock, there is a sense of excitement: “today is the day!”
That excitement dissipates when you miss the one-second window. The worst part, the cycle of feelings will happen again and again as retailers get more stock. Stick with it. It’s possible to get a new console. It just may take some time.
4 The Ideal Versus The Reality
Jim Ryan, PlayStation boss, said every PlayStation console is sold out. This may sound good for the company, but, sadly, many new consoles did not go directly to consumers. As we’ve discussed above, people are selling the consoles higher than the initial launch price of $499. In an ideal world, every kid can wake up to a new console on Christmas morning. In reality, the majority of celebrations will come from scalpers selling with large profit margins.
3 The Cold Hard Truth
It’s true that people of all ages play games, but consoles are always a rewarding find on Christmas morning. It could be in the far back of the Christmas tree - the pinnacle of Christmas morning. A PlayStation 5 and a copy of Sackboy: A Big Adventure could be the perfect gift for a young child. It’s too bad the stock is low and everyone won’t be able to get a new console this Holiday season.
2 The Kohl’s Fiasco
It was a dark day for many console hunters when Kohls went live for their PS5 and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Bundle. Many gamers bought a PS5 from Kohls, received the confirmation, and woke up the next morning to a cancellation notice. The good news is that they all received $180 in Kohls cash to spend on their small video game inventory. If we could gather one lesson from this event, it would be: don’t celebrate until the console arrives at your doorstep.
The iconic Joker interrogation scene from The Dark Knight is prime meme material. Cristian Bale’s booming voice symbolizes the feeling of many gamers as they rummage through the internet for consoles. Hopefully, this is not the angered attitude you bring to retail workers at your local Target or GameStop. They’re already stressed out enough in this holiday season.
1 The Empty Podium
The consoles we’ve been waiting for are out in the wild, but many gamers are still stuck with the old ones. For now, many gamers have to look at their PS4’s and Xbox One X’s with disdain as they wait for the next generation experience.
There may be an empty space below your TV or monitor for the elusive Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, but it may be gathering dust for a while. Until then you can still play the newest games since most of them come out for both generations.
Pain was one of the strongest enemies in Naruto Shippuden so this meme perfectly encapsulates the fear of finding a PS5 or Xbox Series X on store shelves. The new consoles are a hot item and the stores don’t have too many left. If you manage to grab the last one then cautiously and quickly get out of there. In all honesty, be careful at Black Friday sales and make sure you’re home to receive an online order. There are several reports of consoles getting stolen.
