Even though Ubisoft has made many great games over the years, they’ve not always been the most popular developer around. Things like overpriced DLC, game-breaking bugs, and their tendency to milk franchises have left many players disillusioned by the company.
Yet, they do deserve credit for how influential their releases have been on the gaming industry as a whole. Without them, gaming today would look very different. Even so, it’s still enjoyable to make fun of them at times. And the perfect way to do that is through memes. So, here is a collection of some of the funniest ones.
10 Gordon Ramsey Isn’t Happy With The Division
Ubisoft games have a reputation for being bugging, especially the Assassin’s Creed series. And The Division was no different when it launched as the multiplayer game was littered with issues.
Falling through falls, reviving issues, and getting killed by ladders were just a few of the problems. The developers have since fixed most of the bugs, but there are still many of them present around the game’s version of Manhattan.
9 Dev Team Vs. Trailer Team
There’s a lot you can say about Ubisoft’s games at times, but there’s no denying they know how to make a compelling trailer. Pretty much every teaser that gets released by the company excites everyone.
The Assassin’s Creed ones, in particular, are delightful as they tend to be beautiful cinematic videos that are filled with action and drama. If only the games themselves could have the same amount of polish.
8 Poor Uplay
After the huge success of Steam, multiple other companies have tried to create similar digital distribution systems. Ubisoft’s version is named Ubisoft Connect (formally Uplay). Naturally, the system allows you to purchase games from the developer’s large catalog, which includes some classic titles - and some lesser ones.
Since its creation, however, it has received an incredible amount of backlash. Most of the criticism stems from all the technical problems the system has faced. Perhaps the recent rebranding will turn the public opinion, as so far people even prefer EA’s Origin.
7 Turning A Negative Into A Positive
In Watch Dogs: Legion, you spending plenty of time recruiting various people to your hacker group, DedSec. Each new member comes with specific traits; while some are very useful, others really aren’t.
The older folks, for instance, sometimes come with the caveat that they may die randomly. It adds an extra level of immersion as people don’t live forever. However, some fans have jokingly suggested that it’s actually a bug that Ubisoft has repackaged as a feature.
6 Operator Nerfs
Since its release in 2015, Rainbow Six Siege has included both good and bad Operators. Unfortunately, sometimes the better ones are punished for their own success as often when they’re too powerful, Ubisoft decides to nerf them.
It’s understandable as it keeps the games more balanced, but losing an effective Operator is still hard to take. R.I.P original Blackbeard and his impenetrable shield.
5 Assassin’s Creed In Japan
Fans are always suggesting locations and time periods that would make perfect settings for Assassin’s Creed games. A particularly popular suggestion has been Japan during the age of the Samurai. Exploring that time in Japan and meeting historical figures would be amazing. Plus, a lot of the weapons those warriors used are already a part of the Assassin’s Creed series, so it works perfectly.
Although, Ubisoft has clearly never been enarmed with the idea. Thankfully, other famous companies have picked up the slack and released significant Samurai titles. And the likes of Sekiro and Ghost of Tsushima have been impressive.
4 Cyberpunk Delay
The announcement of yet another delay to Cyberpunk 2077 broke the collective hearts of players around the world. But it wasn’t so bad for Ubisoft as the company got to release Assassin’s Creed Valhalla without as much competition.
As Ubisoft has since revealed the smashing success their new game has had so far, it’s clear the whole thing has benefitted the company. It seems that there are advantages to releasing a game that still has some bugs.
3 Poor Prince Of Persia Fans
Ubisoft franchises like Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry get a new release at least every couple of years. The likes of Prince of Persia, however, don’t receive nearly the same treatment. In fact, there hasn’t been a significant entry in the PoP series since 2010. It’s not like the series isn’t good either, as there have been some wonderful Prince Of Persia games in the past.
Ubisoft still hasn’t seemed very interested in the series, though. Yet, things could be changing as a remake of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time has been announced. Whether this is evidence of the company’s renewed interest in the franchise remains to be seen.
2 A Company Loves Towers
The PS5 has some impressive features and an incredible amount of power. It gives companies like Ubisoft the opportunity to do some incredible things. Unfortunately, the developer might simply use the system’s extra power to include even more towers in their games.
You wouldn’t put it past them, as they do love making players climb those structures, primarily in the Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry series. Although, maybe they won’t add extra towers but instead make each one bigger, meaning scaling up them is a more arduous task.
1 A Typical Ubisoft Game
From Assassin’s Creed to Far Cry to Watch Dogs, Ubisoft love to create open-world RPGs. And they’re not bad at them as most are very enjoyable. But it would be appreciated if they could change things up every now and then, especially between franchises.
Although, their attempts to divert from their format in the past haven’t always been successful, i.e., For Honor. So maybe the people running the unbelievably successful company know what they’re doing.
