Any way you slice it, the entirety of the Far Cry franchise has featured sprawling maps with tons and tons to do wherever you look.

The franchise usually sees the protagonist tossed against their will into a setting which is sometimes pretty straightforward and sometimes absolutely insane in rare cases like Far Cry: Primal or the 80s inspired, synthwave aesthetic laden Far Cry: Blood Dragon. Each of these games provides tons and tons to do, so much so that even 2 years after its release, it’s likely that the following locations haven’t been discovered by the most avid of players.

10 The IT Balloons

Far Cry has never been a stranger to making tons and tons of pop culture references, and the 5th entry in the main series continues making them in the midst of a cult war. There are 2 locations where the player can find red balloons floating in sewer drains, being a reference to the release of the two reboots of Stephen King’s IT. The balloons are in the middle of Lamb Of God Church, Fall’s End, and Rye And Son’s Aviation.

9 The Blood Dragon Set

The incredibly fun and well-loved Far Cry spin-off DLC Blood Dragon has received tons of love from fans and critics alike, thanks to the fast-paced gameplay and the neon-drenched look of the experience. In the universe, the game is apparently taking place on a film set, the location of which can for some reason be found in Montana. You can find the set in Faith’s Region, near the Grimalkin Radon Mine.

8 The Mysterious Cave Near Dansky

There’s a little cabin up to the northwest of Langford Lake, hiding back in the forest, well away from civilization. Upon approaching the cabin, the player will find a note on the door written by a man named Dicky Dansky.

If the player follows the path from the cabin, they’ll soon arrive at a cave full of Dansky’s remains, which a lot of fans have for some reason speculated belongs to a sasquatch.

7 O’Hara’s Haunted House

Perhaps one of the spookiest areas that requires a little bit of hard work to find is O’Hara’s Haunted House, a macabre theme park attraction hidden south of a rail bridge near the border between Holland Valley and Henbane river, which is housed in a small house. Once the player turns it on with a switch in the attic, they’ll be dragged through a house of horrors decorated by human corpses.

6 Frobisher’s Cave

Since Far Cry as a series loves making references to its own games, (with one even making it onto the list already) it’s no surprise that there’d be a reference to Far Cry: Primal right here in Far Cry 5. There’s a location called Frobisher’s Cave near the Harris Residence in Holland Valley with cave carvings on the wall which resemble the Wenja cave paintings in Primal, in addition to a loot crate.

5 The Stations Of The Cross

There’s a large, winding path in the Henbane River section of the map, which is known as the Pilgrimage, which is undertaken by particularly devoted Angels.

At the start of the path are 2 cabins, near the top of Angel’s Peak. If the player follows the bloodstains, they’ll be taken down the path which mimics the Catholic Stations Of The Cross, although the Pilgrimage ends with a group suicide site, where Angels sacrifice themselves jumping on a slab.

4 The Mannequin Ghost Town

Perhaps the second spookiest location in the game, right behind O’Hara’s haunted house, is the town of Prosperity that’s located a short helicopter ride from Hope County Jail, provided the player heads southeast. At first glance, it’s just an abandoned settlement. Upon further inspection, the player is sure to realize that it is indeed inhabited, not by humans, but by lifeless mannequins.

3 Rattlesnakes!

While there’s plenty more to worry about in Far Cry 5 than just a few rattlesnakes that can be taken care of with a couple of pistol shots, in case the player is hankering for more encounters with the venomous creatures, they’re in luck.

Back behind the Grandview Hotel, just a short boat ride north, there’s a small island that’s just littered with the pests.

2 Singing Stones

In Whitetail State park, there’s a monument to the fact that not everything in Far Cry as a franchise is scary and threatening, in fact, some of the games have moments that are downright beautiful. This park is a reference to a real state park, which also features rocks that ring, and actually exist in Montana. To hear the sound of the rocks, the player must do what else, but toss a rock at them.

1 The Haunted Hotel

In the Henbane River region of the map is a place known as the King’s Hot Springs Hotel, home to a few members of the cult, including alarms. After the player dispatches the fanatically obsessed cultists inside, they can do some digging into the property to find out that 16 people died as a result of a landslide there, a fact that the cultists were well aware of.
