Outriders is the latest in a long line of great looter shooters to have been released in the last few years. Series like Borderlands and Destiny are firmly established as major games in the genre, but there are some awesome looter shooters that people are missing out on.

These are the kind of titles that players can easily put hundreds of hours into, with updates and content drops providing a wealth of new experiences at regular intervals. If boredom sets in though, checking out one of these games wouldn’t be a bad idea by any means.

10 Remnant: From the Ashes

Remnant: From the Ashes has a difficulty level so punishing many compare it to the infamous Dark Souls series. Combat is complex and fast-paced, with players needing to constantly be checking the environments for new threats and quickly learn enemy attack patterns.

Bosses are one of the highlights of Remnant, every boss possesses unique movesets and combat styles, really testing the skill of players who take them on. Of course, all of this can be done in co-op too, with players being able to form three-player parties to take on everything the game has to offer.

9 Warframe

Warframe is one of the most popular free-to-play shooters on the market and continues to receive substantial free content drops throughout the year. It puts you in the shoes of space ninjas, taking on contracts and completing story-related quests in order to earn currency amongst other rewards.

Abilities can be used that allow gamers to perform actions such as dealing damage to enemies or enhancing player movement. Both character and weapon customization are incredibly in-depth, as is the level of unlockable content available to grind for.

8 Destiny 2

Destiny 2 has evolved into one of the best looter shooters on the market, with constant updates and events to further improving the game. It is a brilliant experience alone too, although playing co-op does offer a wider range of content, this shouldn’t deter solo players though as Destiny 2 has so much to do regardless.

Classes exist with specialist skills and powers, and each possesses unique strengths as well as weaknesses. Leveling up is kept fun and interesting with the variety of content on offer, and the endgame raids are brilliant too.

7 Borderlands 3

The quintessential looter shooter, Borderlands’s most recent title features the series staples of local and online co-op modes. It’s hilarious too, with brilliantly written dialogue that is constantly producing brilliant conversations. A load of old favorites return too, as well as some interesting new characters to the franchise.

The loot is still diverse and plentiful, and new content is still on the way to expand an already vast degree of things to do.

6 The Division 2

The Division 2 is set in post-apocalyptic Earth and features an incredibly realistic depiction of Washington DC. The sequel adds a lot to the series, addressing many of the major complaints with the first game as well as adding a whole bunch of new features.

The Division 2 has an immensely satisfying gameplay loop, keeping players busy with volumes of missions complete and plenty of unlockables. There’s also a lot to do in its open-world too, as well as a load of loot to find and collect.

5 EVERSPACE 2

Unlike its roguelike predecessor, EVERSPACE 2 has opted for a more standard action-RPG gameplay loop. This allows a bit more expansion in the game’s story, and the sidekick characters which pop up sometimes are a welcome addition both story-wise and due to their strong personalities.

Dogfighting is as satisfying as in the original, and the joy felt from blowing up enemy ships never gets old. Different ships are available to choose and unlock, with each model offering unique advantages, stats, and abilities that all act together to vary up gameplay.

4 Shadow Warrior 2

A new Shadow Warrior game may be on the way, but the second game in this looter shooter series is still a seriously entertaining package. It’s a fairly open game, giving players a lot of options when it comes to progress as well as in combat situations. Customization options are also plentiful, and 4 player co-op makes for entertaining multiplayer sessions.

The game’s Japanese setting adds so much character to it, with an interesting plot to explore that revolves around the Yakuza.

3 Alienation

An unusual looter shooter in that it’s from a top-down viewpoint, Alienation blends looter shooter elements with pieces from RPGs and dungeon crawlers to great effect. There’s a lot going on here, with new variations to weapons and enemies appearing even in the post-game.

Co-op is included and is likely the optimum way to play Alienation, with the arcadey gameplay of blasting away aliens feeling truly at its best with some friends along for the ride.

2 No Man’s Sky

While not a traditional looter shooter by any stretch, No Man’s Sky’s loop revolves around looting materials after shooting things so it kinda works. Over several years of constant updates, No Man’s Sky has finally become the epic space simulator it was promised to be. It even has pets to befriend and train now which can then be used for numerous things.

There is no game like No Man’s Sky, the freedom to explore it offers is on such an unprecedented scale, with a literal universe to explore. Each and every planet can be visited and explored too, all 18 quintillions of them.

1 Risk of Rain 2

On the surface, Risk of Rain 2 is a fairly simple rogue-like game. Players land on a planet to find upgrades while fighting creatures who are determined to kill them. What this description doesn’t tell you though is that Risk of Rain 2 is incredibly addictive, and will hook you for dozens and dozens of hours.

The soundtrack that accompanies this incredibly fun gameplay is top tier too and makes you feel like a real badass as you kick some butt.
