“Steel for humans, silver for monsters” is the credo of the Witcher. While steel works just fine against a human assailant, the Witcher needs something a little more specialized for the fiends, ghouls, and leshens of the world. Geralt of Rivia has fought more than his fair share of both humans and monsters, and he has plenty of both to deal with in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

Fantasy Games With The Deepest Lore, Ranked

However, not all silver swords are made equally. There are many, whether it be through forging or enchantment, that rise above the rest. That’s what we’re going to focus on here today while we count down the Witcher 3’s best silver swords and where to find them.

15 Cantata Is A Stunning Sword Found In Blood And Wine

The Cantata is a silver sword that can be found in the Blood and Wine expansion to The Witcher 3. It is found next to the dead body of a mage in the What Lies Unseen quest.

The Cantata is a powerful silver sword capable of piercing armor as well as stunning or causing the bleeding effect on whatever monsters stand in Geralt’s way. Given that this is found in Blood and Wine, this should be considered a late-game sword. However, it’s very much worthwhile to pick this one up when you get to it.

14 Tah’rel Is A Rare Relic Sword That Must Be Crafted

The Tah’rel is another relic silver sword that can be found in the Blood and Wine expansion. However, this one needs to be crafted by Geralt to be obtained. It’s worth it to do so, as this is another of the Witcher 3’s best silver swords.

The diagram for this one can be found underwater during the What Was This About Again quest on a dead body. It requires two leather scraps, two dimeritium ingots, one pouch of emerald dust, and one bag of powdered monster tissue to craft. The Tah’rel offers a nice boost to Aard Sign intensity, so it’s definitely worth checking out.

13 Wolven Silver Sword Represents The Pride Of Geralt’s Own Witcher School

This sword hails from Geralt’s own Witcher school - the Wolf School. The Wolf School offers a more moderated approach to the brutes of the Ursine School and the nimble Feline School. The initial crafting diagram for the Wolven Silver Sword can be found in the Ruined Watchtower at Kaer Morhen. It requires one leather scrap, three silver ingots, a vial of Fifth Essence, and one monster brain.

Like the gear of the rest of the Witcher schools, the Wolven Silver Sword can be upgraded to a Mastercrafted tier in the base game and to a Grandmaster tier through the Blood and Wine expansion.

12 Naevde Seidhe Is A Powerful Sword That Can Be Found Around Skellige

Like many of the Witcher 3’s best silver swords, Naevde Seidhe is another relic sword that must be found while exploring the Continent. There are actually three purported locations that the Naevde Seidhe can be found, all of which are in Skellige.

One location is in a monster den in Kaer Gelen between the Miners Camp and Gedyneith. The second location is near Larvik during the For Fame and Glory quest. The final location is in the Ancient Crypt on Ard Skellig.

11 Tor Zireael Is An Exceedingly Rare Yet Powerful Silver Sword

This sword was neglected for the initial list due to its rarity, but it truly is one of the Witcher 3’s best silver swords. The spawning conditions for this sword are a bit mysterious, but some have found it to be near Lugos’ fortress in Kaer Muire on Skellige. If Geralt is above level 60 in New Game or 90 in New Game Plus, this specific chest will spawn Tor Zireael, as long as the chest has never been opened.

Annoying spawning requirements aside, this is one of The Witcher 3’s best swords available, and well worth the hunt.

10 Viper Silver Sword Is An Ideal Early-Game Weapon

The Viper School Witcher can’t be upgraded like the other Witcher school sets, so it doesn’t stack up in the late game. However, the Viper Silver Sword is one of the Witcher 3’s best silver swords for the first several quests, and it is available very early in the game.

You can find the Serpentine Silver Sword diagram in the White Orchard Cemetery, and it only requires a leather strap, two silver ingots, emerald dust, and venomous extract to craft. It boosts your Aard, has a chance to poison, and gives you bonus experience from monsters, so why not have it made and go poison some Drowners?

9 Bloodsword Is Good For The Mid-Game Quests

Like the Viper Silver Sword, the Bloodsword doesn’t really stack up in the latest stages of Wild Hunt, but it is a strong contender for the Witcher 3’s best silver sword for the mid-game. It’s a Relic sword that increases critical hit chance, boosts your critical hits, and has a strong chance to bleed and dismember opponents.

The Witcher 3: Top Scariest Quests Based On Actual Myth

Your earliest chance to get the Bloodsword is from the Inheritance treasure hunt quest in Skellige, which only recommends a Level 14 to use it. Back in Velen, the Battlefield Loot quest can reward you with the Bloodsword as well, but it requires you to be Level 20 instead.

8 Griffin Silver Sword Is A Weapon From An Elite Witcher School

Unlike the Viper School Set, you can upgrade the Griffin Witcher School gear throughout the game. This means that the Griffin Silver Sword will mostly scale with you as you progress through the game. The various Witcher School sets are supposed to match with a certain playstyle, and the Griffin School set is intended for a Witcher who specializes in sign usage and medium-weight armor.

The Griffin Silver Sword itself boosts all sign intensity by 5 percent at its base form and can be built from leather scraps, three silver ingots, fifth essence, and a monster brain. The first diagram can be found in a lighthouse in Lornruk, Velen, that is guarded by a Wyvern. In its Grandmaster form (which requires the Blood and Wine DLC), a bonus is granted when combining it with other Griffin School gear, and the sword itself boosts sign intensity by 21% as well as boosting critical hit chance, critical hit damage, and dismemberment chance.

7 Harpy Has Two Forms, But The Relic Form Is Better

The Harpy is a sword that can be crafted, but it’s more powerful in its relic state. It can be found during the “Wandering in the Dark” quest with Keira Metz, and it requires Geralt to be at Level 37 to use.

It has a high damage output which is increased even further with Geralt’s own level. Furthermore, it has a high chance to make the monster bleed, so Geralt can take down most monsters with this weapon by inflicting several hits and waiting for the beast to bleed out.

6 Tlareg Aids In Geralt’s Ability To Burn Monsters

The Tlareg is another Relic sword that can be found north of Kaer Muire in Skellige. This fortress is the seat of Clan Drummond, which is ruled by Jarl Madman Lugos. The Tlareg doles out intense damage, but that’s not all that this silver sword has to offer.

For the firestarters out there, the Tlareg boosts Igni sign intensity by up to 18%, and it has a 12% chance of freezing your opponent. In other words, you get to burn and freeze your opponent at the same time. All of this is traded off for a lower experience boost for killing monsters, but, by the time you get the Tlareg, you’ll be set to face most things that will come your way.

Tlareg Effects:

5 Ursine Silver Sword Is Good For A Geralt Tank Build

This is another Witcher School silver sword, and it comes from a set that encourages Geralt to wear heavier gear and become a walking tank of a Witcher. The Bear School gear requires Geralt to be at a slightly higher level to get than the other schools, but the silver sword is worth it granting boosts to adrenaline point gain, critical hit chance and damage, and dismemberment chance.

The initial Ursine Silver Sword diagram can be found in Fort Etnir in Skellige. The sword requires leather straps, three silver ingots, a monster brain, and powdered monster tissue.

4 Feline Silver Sword Is For The Nimble And Brutal Witcher

The Feline Silver Sword is a far more devious weapon and comes from a Witcher School that turned to taking assassination contracts. The Cat School gear is intended to be lightweight and fast, and the silver sword boosts the chance to cause bleeding and the intensity of the Aard sign. In its Grandmaster form, the Feline Silver Sword can also boost the chance to land a critical hit as well as the chance to dismember.

The first Feline Silver Sword can be crafted a little sooner than the Ursine Silver Sword. It requires Geralt to be at Level 17 and to have two sets of leather straps, two silver ingots, ruby dust, and a monster eye. The diagram can be found east of Novigrad in Est Tayiar near Vernon Roche’s Temerian Partisan Hideout. You’ll run through Est Tayiar when looking for Philippa Eilhart if you help King Radovid during the “Redania’s Most Wanted” quest.

3 Manticore Silver Sword Is One Of The Best Weapons In The Game

The Manticore School gear was introduced with the Blood and Wine DLC, and the diagram can only be found in the Duchy of Toussaint. The Manticore gear only comes in its Grandmaster form, so it requires Geralt to be at the high level of 40 to acquire and use. It’s worth it though, as the Manticore Silver Sword tears through armor, increases critical hit damage significantly, and also increases the chance to land a critical hit and cause bleeding.

The Most Graphically Demanding PC Games

The Manticore Silver Sword diagram can be found in the Murky Delve, aka the Cave of Tribulations, in Toussaint. The sword requires two sets of leather scraps, two silver ingots, a ruby, and a monster brain. It must be forged by Lazare Lafargue in Beauclair.

2 Gesheft Is A Sword With A High Level Requirement

The Gesheft sword requires Geralt to be at level 45 to use, but its bonuses earn that high level requirement. There are actually two variants of the Gesheft, and both are impressive. The first is a relic that can be found in the Land of a Thousand Fables in the Blood and Wine main quest. To get here and get the Gesheft requires the player to make a few specific decisions in the story to get to the Gesheft. This version gives a 20% bonus to all signs.

The crafted version gives an intense critical hit damage boost, a heightened chance to land a critical hit, a boost to Aard sign, and a chance to poison. Both are among the Witcher 3’s best silver swords. The diagram is found near the Dun Tynne Crossroads in Beauclair and can be built with two sets of leather scraps, two enriched dimeritium ingots, acid extract, and a sapphire.

1 Aerondight Gains Continuous Permanent Boosts With Use

The Aerondight is arguably the best weapon in the game, period. It also comes from Blood and Wine and is gifted by the Lady of the Lake at Lac Celavy to Geralt after he masters all five chivalric values. What sets the Aerondight apart is its insanely high damage ceiling, and that makes it the Witcher 3’s best silver sword.

The Aerondight gets a boost from every successful blow landed on an opponent during a fight and lands only critical hits when fully charged. Furthermore, it gains a permanent boost every time it kills an enemy at full charge, which it will do a lot of. It also scales to Geralt’s current level, so you can carry this one over to New Game+. It can also be imbued with rune slots, so it can have Runewords inscribed in it. There’s really no contest when it comes to the Aerondight.
