One of the PlayStation 4’s best selling points are the exclusives that are available on the console. The big games like Marvel’s Spider-Man, God of War, and The Last of Us Part 2 have gained the most attention and as a result achieved the biggest sales.

However, there are other games on the system that didn’t achieve the same success as the big AAA games because they were either unfairly compared to Sony’s best titles, or were improved over time with patches and support from the developers. As a result, there are some great games in the PS4’s library that don’t quite give players the full picture when it comes to their Metascore.

10 The Order 1886 – Metascore 63

Released in 2015, The Order: 1886 is a third-person action shooter with similar mechanics to the Gears of War series. The game received a lot of hype as a PlayStation 4 exclusive due to its state-of-the-art visuals.

However, The Order didn’t quite live up to the critic’s expectations and wasn’t quite as well-received as Sony hoped. It is true that the game is very linear and doesn’t have much replay value, but it’s a solid TPS with good mechanics and an intriguing world. It isn’t a long game but is packed with great set pieces & high production values and feels like a good Summer blockbuster.

9 Driveclub – Metascore 71

Released in 2014, Driveclub is a racing game that didn’t live up the lofty expectations set by the PlayStation’s other exclusive driving series Gran Turismo. However, it was consistently improved with updates and patches making it a significantly better game than it was when it was reviewed at launch.

Furthermore, there was a PSVR version of Driveclub and despite the cutbacks, it was one of the best experiences on the system at the time. Unfortunately, both Driveclub games have been delisted from the PSN store, but the physical versions can still be found in certain retailers and is worth seeking out.

8 Days Gone – Metascore 71

Days Gone was released exclusively on the PlayStation 4 in 2019 and is one of the most criminally overlooked games on the system. It has great production values with great graphics, character models, voice acting, and an interesting story.

It’s an open-world game zombie horror game that borrows heavily from other games in the genre like Red Dead Redemption and even more linear games like The Last of Us. Dealing with hordes of infected is both dynamic and thrilling, but there are lots of ways to defeat them.

7 Sakura Wars – Metascore 72

Released in 2020, Sakura Wars is a Japanese RPG and visual novel hybrid that is something of a reboot for the series that hasn’t seen a release in the West since 2010. It combines aspects of dating simulator mechanics like those seen in Fire Emblem and Persona with hack ’n’ slash mech battles.

Sakura Wars won’t appeal to everyone and it’s probably fair to call it one of the most anime games available on the PS4, but those looking for something different will find a lot to love in Sakura Wars.

6 Killzone: Shadow Fall – Metascore 72

The Killzone series has always struggled to live up to expectations. Whether it was the slightly exaggerated visuals or the claims of being it Sony’s so-called “Halo killer,” the series has often found itself on the wrong end of some slightly unfair criticisms.

Released as a PS4 launch title in 2013, Killzone: Shadow Fall is still one of the best looking games on the console. The game was far more open-ended than its predecessors and there’s an element of strategy & stealth that gives the game far more depth.

5 Marvel’s Iron Man VR – Metascore 73

Released in 2020 for the PlayStation VR, Marvel’s Iron Man VR is a game that puts its players in the shoes of Tony Stark as Iron Man. It’s an experience that’s comparable to Vader Immortal in that it’s a dream come true for fans.

The flight mechanics are some of the best on the system and the controls feel very refined and well done despite the limitations of the Move controllers & cables that are hooked up to the console. In addition, it’s also one of the best looking games on the system and is the closest gamers will ever get to actually feeling like Iron Man.

4 Concrete Genie – Metascore 75

Released in 2019, Concrete Genie is an action-adventure game based in an inventive semi-open world environment. The player takes control of a young boy named Ash who is oe a quest to recover the pages of his sketchbook after it was torn up and thrown away by the neighborhood bullies.

Throughout his journey, Ash discovers a paintbrush that is capable of bringing his drawings and paintings to life. With this brush, he is tasked with bringing hope and life back into the streets with his paintings. The game makes clever use of the PS4’s SixAxis motion controls and there is even a PSVR mode too.

3 InFamous: Second Son – Metascore 80

Released in 2014, InFamous: Second Son is an open-world superhero action game and was one of the first titles to really show off what the console was capable of. It is the third game in the series and, like its predecessors, gives players the freedom in whether or not they want to be a superhero or a supervillain.

It’s a visually impressive game and lets players explore a stunning recreation of Seattle with its streets lit in neon colors. The powers available are fun to use and there’s replay value for gamers that want to try out both good and bad paths.

2 Until Dawn – Metascore 80

Released in 2015, Until Dawn is an interactive drama and survival horror game that lets players take control of a group of teenagers in a situation where every choice matters. It puts players right in the director’s chair of their own slasher movie.

It’s consistently scary and filled with jump scares, offering so much replay value. This is thanks to the game’s many options and dialogue choices that lead to different fates, endings, & interactions in the narrative.

1 Judgment – Metascore 80

Released exclusively for the PlayStation 4 in 2019, Judgement is an open-world action RPG and detective game set in the same universe as the Yakuza series. It features a brand new character and a standalone story that is compelling from start to finish.

In addition, Judgement is more accessible to mainstream gamers being the first game in the Yakuza line to feature English voice acting since the original Yakuza on the PlayStation 2. It also features one of the best narratives on the console and has the perfect balance of gameplay mechanics, story, and side content.
