The Nintendo gaming company is known for its wide variety of iconic video game characters. From Mario and Luigi to Pikachu and the many interesting Pokémon characters, there is no shortage of Nintendo icons to choose from. Nothing proves this more than the success of the Super Smash Brother franchise, which highlights the best characters from every Nintendo franchise.
One of the best aspects of fan art is when fan artists choose to cross over different franchises. For this top ten list, we’ve looked at fan art that combines both the Nintendo and Harry Potter worlds. Here are ten Nintendo characters reimagined as Hogwarts students.
10 Mario Magic
What if Mario was the chosen hero wizard fo the Harry Potter world? NBAntony13 imagines this scenario with his artwork depicting Mario as a Hogwarts student. As odd as it sounds for a middle-aged plumber to become a wizard-in-training, NBAnthoy13’s artwork really sells the idea well.
The school outfit and hat somehow look perfect on the hero of the Mushroom Kingdom. Mario also holds the wand with such authority that it almost makes you think he’s used one before in one of his many video game franchises.
9 Chrom and Lou
One of Nintendo’s most iconic franchises that often gets overlooked by casual fans is Fire Emblem. Besides a couple of main characters from the franchise, most commonly Marth and Roy, showing up in various Super Smash Brothers games, characters from the series have yet to get very much else in terms of mainstream respect.
An artist on DeviantArt, Loustica, decided to take two additional characters from the franchise, Chrom and Lou, and drop them into the wizarding world of Harry Potter. The two characters seem to fit perfectly into the wizarding world.
8 Tall Sonic
While this is a very impressive piece of art, the rendition of Sonic above does appear somewhat unsettling. That is because the hedgehog is normally depicted as being much shorter. Here, MonstrousLupus decided to make him the size of a regular person.
Other than the furry, blue face, this artist also kept Sonic’s iconic red shoes and classic white gloves. While proportionally this is a far departure from the character’s traditional interpretation, there are still many staples of the super-fast hedgehog that remain intact.
7 Isabelle The Wizard
One of the most adorable characters in all of Nintendo is Isabelle. Coming from the Animal Crossing franchise, Isabelle is a cute little dog that has become the face of the series of games.
DeviantArt user yoshimarsart imagined Isabelle in her very own custom Hogwarts outfit and said outfit could not fit the character any more perfectly. The black and yellow color scheme even seems to match Isabelle’s fur perfectly. All things considered, Isabelle would make a great student at the magical school.
6 Team Sonic
Fan artist Euraysia chose to sort several different Sonic characters into their own Hogwarts houses. Sonic was sorted into Ravenclaw, Shadow into Gryffindor, Silver into Hufflepuff, and Mephiles into Slytherin.
What’s so fascinating about Euraysia’s choice here is not the artwork itself, but the choices of which houses they would be sorted into. Every house seems to perfectly match that character’s personality. It’s evident that this fan knew the Sonic characters quite well.
5 Pika-Potter
KenneDuck created a Pikachu/Harry Potter hybrid that finds a way to combine all of the best aspects of each character and combine them into one fantastic amalgamation. Two of the most recognizable protagonists in all of pop-culture, it only makes sense that a fan was eventually going to combine them in this way.
What really makes this amalgamation all come together is the lightning bolt symbol. Obviously associated with Pikachu because of his electric abilities, the bolt is also a scar found on Harry’s forehead. This commonality makes this nerdy combo a no-brainer. It’s as if it was always meant to happen.
4 Kirby Potter
Ein-Panda created yet another Harr Potter combination. This time, however, it wasn’t a Pokémon that Harry was mixed with. Instead, it was the Nintendo protagonist Kirby. Kirby’s power in his series of games is absorbing the abilities/appearance of other characters. In this scenario, it seems as though he absorbed Harry Potter himself.
Kirby is perhaps one of Nintendo’s most innocent looking characters. Seeing him with the childish features/accessories of the Harry Potter character adds to the overall innocence and adorability of the cute pink creature.
3 Red Yoshi of House Gryffindor
The Yoshi species is a friendly group of dinosaur-like creatures that exist throughout the Mushroom Kingdom. Whenever Mario finds himself in need of assistance, any Yoshi nearby always appears to be willing to help.
These Yoshis come in all sorts of different colors. While a green Yoshi is the most common color to be depicted in the series, LizDraws drew this red Yoshi as a cute little student at Hogwarts. The adorable creature seems to fit in perfectly with his Hogwarts-themed gear.
2 Professor Bayonetta
One of the two surviving Umbra Witches, Bayonetta has battled all sorts of dangerous magical forces in her search to learn of her past. Having starred in several different video games at this point, Bayonetta has proven to be one of Nintendo’s star characters.
Another fantastically skilled artist, Gattusparrow, manages to transport the deadly witch into the wizarding world. It doesn’t take much to imagine her at Hogwarts, considering Bayonetta is the only character on this list that is either a wizard or witch.
1 A Studious Charizard
Mongezeas-Kira imagined another Pokémon in the place of the Harry Potter character: Charizard. More typically shown to be a fearsome monster, this Charizard has taken on the timid, quiet nature of Harry himself.
The few accessories that this artist gave Charizard are, aside from his timid expression, what really sells this artwork. The glasses and Hogwarts-themed scarf bring about the Harry Potter comparisons. Also, the book he’s holding in his hand helps communicate the idea that he is, in fact, a hard-working student. Although, hilariously he’s trying to learn English rather than some complicated spell.
