Believe it or not, Nintendo started off as a card game company in the late 1800s. They sure have come a long way since then! They are know one of the most successful video game companies in the world with major franchises to their name like Mario, Pokémon, Metroid, Splatoon, and The Legend of Zelda.
Pokémon, one of their most successful brands, has inspired a lot of crossover fan art. So why not crossover Pokémon with other Nintendo brands? Here are ten pieces of fan art that show Nintendo characters as Pokémon Trainers.
10 Peach And Mario
This fan art makes it look like Peach and Mario are cosplaying as Ash and Serena from the Pokémon anime! They did a pretty good job, though its hard to imagine Ash with a mustache.
The art was made by PeachyPinkPrincess. She does a lot of adorable fan art of Super Mario characters that uses a lot of pink colors and sparkles. She is also a Princess Peach cosplayer!
9 Link Meets Pokémon
The artist, zeldacw, made this piece in celebration of The Legend of Zelda’s 30th and Pokémon’s 20th anniversary year. The two games are pretty different in terms of story and gameplay, but the two have some in common.
Both have gone through a ton of changes over the years! It is cute that they are switching up their stuff in this art. What kind of trainer would Link be and would Red be able to learn combat? The artist is a comic book artist, so check out their stuff!
8 Froslass In Splatoon
The artist for this piece, TamarinFrog, does a lot of Nintendo fan art and crossovers. In fact, this art is just one of a collection of Splatoon and Pokémon crossover art.
While both Splatoon and Pokémon are pretty innocent and happy games, the artist managed to get these two to look a little scary. Other Pokémon this artist has crossover with Splatoon characters include Gyarados, Snorlax, Arcanine, Haunter, and more.
7 Samus And Pikachu
Due to Super Smash Brawl, a lot of fans have made fan art of different characters teaming up. One popular team is Samus and Pikachu! There is actually a lot of fan art of these two Nintendo characters together. Would Samus be a better trainer than Ash? Well, instead of getting Pikachu to fight for her, they would fight together.
The artist is PhiphiAuThon and their gallery is the place to be for Nintendo fan art. They have fan art of characters like Rosalina, Zelda, Daisy, Peach, Kirby, Fox, Falco, Cynthia, and tons of other characters in Smash.
6 Link And Detective Pikachu
Here we have a modernized Link from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on an investigation with Detective Pikachu. What is most cute about this duo is that Detective Pikachu is very talkative while Link never speaks! Imagine having a silent trainer with a talkative Pokémon! Also, what are they investigating? Is that. . . Sonic the Hedgehog’s quill? This crossover might be more complex than we thought.
The art was made by BettyKwong, and they do a lot of cute Legend of Zelda fan art. They have also done fan art for Fire Emblem.
5 Bowser And Pikachu
The dynamic between Pikachu and Bowser would be very fun to watch. It appears this is actually fan art for Super Smash, as characters can send out different Pokémon to help them out if they pick up a Pokéball. It looks like Bowser wants Pikachu to attack his enemies but Pikachu is refusing. The way Pikachu is behaving is reminiscent of the first episodes of the anime with Ash.
The artist is mysticalpha and he does a lot of fan art for My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Sailor Moon, Disney films, and more.
4 Squid Trainers
We had to put in another piece from TamarinFrog from their Splatoon and Pokémon crossover collection, because they just look so happy here! We have two squid kids from Splatoon with a Charmander and Squirtle.
Water-Types would definitely suit the characters of Splatoon more since they have squid and octopus people. There is even a squid Pokémon, Inkay, which is both Dark and Water-Type.
3 Pokémon Go Team
Not all crossover art has to be about the base games. The app, Pokémon Go, is still one of the post popular phone games out there. The summer it was released created a major craze.
This art was done by illustrator and comic artist, TheBourgyman. He drew the three Mario princesses: Peach, Daisy, and Rosalina, as trainers in Pokémon Go. If you look at their shirts, you can see the three teams as well from app: Mystic, Valor, and Instinct. Not only do the teams fit the princesses’ different colors, but they also coincide with their personalities!
2 Luigi Meets A Ghost-Type
Luigi and ghosts are like peanut butter and jelly thanks to the Luigi’s Mansion series. So it is pretty clever to do a crossover with him and Ghost-Type Pokémon! In this fan art, he is meeting a Polteagiest. He seems terrifying but it looks like it just wants to be friends.
The artist for this piece is DasGnomo. Her gallery also has fan art for The Legend of Zelda, Devil May Cry, Mario, Ducktales, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, and more.
1 Zelda And Pichu
This wholesome art gives some baby Pokémon some love. Picha is adorable, but not known to be strong. Zelda does not care though. What matters is that its friendly and cute! This is a very warm picture, and it captures the sweeter side of Hyrule’s princess.
The artist for this piece is Roiner-Rinku and she does a lot of Legend of Zelda fan art.
