The year 2020 may be halfway finished already, but there are still a ton of titles in store for the Nintendo Switch. Highly-anticipated releases like Paper Mario: The Origami King and Deadly Premonition 2: A Blessing in Disguise are coming up in July, and down the road in the fall we can expect Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.

Unfortunately, many other highly-anticipated titles don’t have release dates set in stone quite yet, despite advertising 2020 releases. Time’s running out for these games — will we have them by the end of the year?

10 Little Nightmares II

Back in 2017, the kid-sized horror adventure Little Nightmares took the world by storm as a young child named Six attempts to escape a terrifying place known as the Maw. A sequel to the critically acclaimed indie platformer was announced at Gamescon 2019 with an expected 2020 release date. It was rumored that Bandai Namco’s Little Nightmares II would come out in March, but alas, the month came and went empty-handed.

Little Nightmares II is said to bring back Six as she guides a new character, Mono, in finding the secrets of The Signal Tower in the distance. It is expected to release on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

9 Gleamlight

D3Publisher’s Gleamlight, 2-D action game, takes place in a stained-glass world. The game boasts no UI whatsoever, which creates an “enhanced immersive gameplay experience,” according to the 2019 trailer. Gleam, a character obscured by a red hat and a red cape, explores a beautifully painted world to uncover secrets.

The developers, DICO, have been hush-hush about the storyline, encouraging players to piece together the mystery on their own. It also doesn’t look like this game will have any hand-holding. Gleamlight was expected in early 2020, but there is still no set date for the Switch, PC, Xbox One, or PlayStation 4.

8 Ary and the Secret of Seasons

In this indie adventure from Modus Games, a young girl named Aryelle takes on the role of a Guardian of Winter, which allows her to control the seasons. Players use this ability to defeat enemies and uncover secrets as Ary travels through the land of Valdi.

Ary and the Secret of Seasons was initially scheduled for release this month. However, Modus Games announced in June that the game was delayed due to “events out of our control,” according to Nintendo Life. “We are working hard to finish the game,” the publishers assured. The game is now expected in September of this year.

7 Digimon Survive

The latest installment in the Digimon series, Digimon Survive is a survival strategy RPG where player choices influence what is to come. Several different digivolutions are unlocked based on player choices, giving the game so much replay value. Unfortunately, Digimon fans have been waiting for Digimon Survive since 2019, when it first experienced delays.

It was rumored that the game was yet again delayed after a concerning Famitsu issue claimed that the release date was TBA. Bandai Namco later confirmed that it is still on track for release on all platforms in 2020, but a specific date was not revealed.

6 DOOM Eternal

DOOM Eternal is out now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Google Stadia, and PC, but Nintendo Switch gamers are still waiting for their turn. In this highly-anticipated first-person shooter, players control the Doom Slayer as he defeats the demonic forces of Hell.

Nintendo Switch gamers are eager to get their hands on this title, but unfortunately, there is no official date for the Switch port release. The developer, id Software, revealed that Bethesda Softworks and gaming company Panic Button want to put their all into DOOM Eternal’s Switch port before they give it to the world.

5 SkateBIRD

SkateBIRD is just how it sounds — skateboarding birds. You and your feathery friends can perform tricks on bendy straws, staples, sticky tape, and more tiny office products. As a pet bird, your goal is to become a talented skateboarder to cheer up your owner, referred to as Big Friend.

Developer and publisher Glass Bottle Games unveiled the official trailer in 2019. SkateBIRD is expected in late 2020, but may be released in early 2021 on Steam and Nintendo Switch.

4 Axiom Verge 2

Axiom Verge 2 is the highly-anticipated, Nintendo Switch-exclusive sequel to 2015’s Axiom Verge. The metroidvania expands on the world from the first game, but can be played as a prequel as well. Thomas Happ Games has been a bit hush-hush on the plot of Axiom Verge 2, but we know it follows a billionaire named Indra who hears voices when she discovers a secret.

Axiom Verge 2 is expected in late 2020 on Switch, with other platforms reportedly coming later.

3 The Survivalists

The Survivalists is a spin-off of the popular 2014 series The Escapists, a top-down strategy game. In this title set in the same universe, you and your friends live on a deserted island as you hunt for food, discover secrets, and outrun the local inhabitants. Get creative by collecting resources and building tools to help you survive.

The Survivalists, from Team17, is expected to be available on Nintendo Switch later in 2020.

2 Sports Story

Sports Story calls itself “a game about sports — but not always.” In this 2-D adventure from Sidebar Games, players can study at a tennis academy, explore dungeons, engage in espionage, play mini games, and more. There’s just a little bit of everything in so many different settings. The game acts as a sequel to 2017’s surprise hit, Golf Story.

Sports Story has an expected release date of “mid 2020,” so it may be hitting the Nintendo eShop very soon.

1 No More Heroes III

The fourth installment to the hack and slash series No More Heroes is coming soon, 10 years following the previous game. No More Heroes III is slated to follow Travis Touchdown’s return to Santa Destroy. His mission is to take down an alien invasion led by a galactic overlord prince.

While publisher Grasshopper Manufacture did not announce an official date, the game was said to be 34 to 40 percent complete in November. At this rate, it is likely going to come out in the fall.
