In Remnant: From The Ashes, the Merchants can provide a lot of helpful supplies that can often save you in a pinch. From equipment and gear to consumable buffs and aid, the various supporting NPCs certainly know what can turn a profit in the post-apocalyptic dimension-hopping world of Remnant.

There are sixteen of them in total if you include the ones that were added later by the DLCs of the Swamp of Corsus and Subject 2923. Each one is spread out across the different worlds of the game and they all have their own unique wares to sell. These could be weapons, armor, or some handy consumables, so to make your next run a little easier here are merchants that are worth checking out.

10 Reggie

One of the first merchants that you will bump into, Reggie is located in your home hub of Ward 13. You can find him by heading out from the Red Crystal to one of the annexes nearby.

He sells a range of items from ammo and healing Bloodworts to helpful consumables like Greenleaf, Heavy Water Elixir, and Hydro Coolant. You can also pick up the Scavenger Trait if you give him the Tarnished Ring. A neat feature of Reggie is that this helpful chaps inventory will gradually improve as you go through the game. So remember to pop back often to see if his stocks changed.

9 The Root Mother

The Root Mother is by far the most important NPC Merchant in Remnant: From The Ashes and that’s because she’s the only person that can upgrade your Dragon Shards.

But this helpful service does not come cheap. Each upgrade costs 1 Simulacrum, 10 Lumenite Crystals, and 1,000 Scraps, so start saving up those resources if you want to more healing items. The Root Mother can be found in Ward 13 near Reggie and the other Hub Merchants and will become available after you protect her from being attacked in the Church of the Harbinger.

8 Iskal Queen

The bug-infested swamps of Corsus are where you’ll find this big butterfly lady. After clearing enough of the area you should find her lair along with a nearby Red Crystal that will allow you to fast travel in and out.

She sells Greenleaf to help with the area’s enemies that constantly bombard you with Corroded attacks. The Iskal Queen also sells the Scythe for 750 Scrap, which is a melee item that has an awesome Devil May Cry style move of spinning it like a buzzsaw in front of you. Players can fight her as an optional boss to get more rewards and if you speak to her with the Parasite status effect she will give you a side-quest that will unlock a new helpful trait and .

7 Ace

If crafting is your thing then you’re going to get to know Ace very well. This Fallout New Vegas-looking character hangs around in Ward 13 near the Root Mother.

What makes her important to your run is that she stocks iron and can help you craft the three tiers of normal, forged, and galvanized if given the right materials. Also if you give her the Strange Coin players will receive a free magnum, a handgun that can carry you pretty much for the rest of the game.

6 Mud Tooth

Another Merchant that’s hidden away in the game, Mud Tooth is a charming old man that hangs out by a crashed helicopter on Earth. He used to lead the local Mud Dog bandits before he handed the reins over to his son Brabus.

He sells players ammo boxes and the unique items of Mudtooth’s Stew and Mudtooth’s Tonic. Both are pretty handy for the early game as that homemade stew of his increases your stamina by 25 for 60 minutes whilst the tonic is a consumable that boosts max health by 25 for an hour as well.

5 Rigs

When it comes to keeping your weapons and armor in top condition then Rigs is your man. Located within Ward 13 behind the Red Crystal, this gruff and dour-looking chap sells new players their starting weapons as well as the Hunter, Scrapper, and Cultist gear.

Trading iron with him allows you to upgrade your guns and the higher level your guns go the higher the tier, similar to how Dark Souls used their Titanite system. It’s worth stopping by Rigs at least once after every run, whether you’re playing solo or in co-op with friends you never want to miss an upgrade chance.

4 McCabe

Just as important as her cohort Rigs, McCabe is someone you will be spending a lot of time with in Remnant: From The Ashes.

You can bring her different crafting materials as you progress through the game and she will helpfully turn them into new mods or weapons to add to your growing arsenal. You don’t have to go too far to find McCabe as she’s standing right next to Rigs in her own stall inside Ward 13. So you can buy a new weapon from her and then walk over to rigs to make it stronger.

3 Mad Merchant

Similar to Ace, this demented masked chap is found on Earth in the Junktown Showdown Event and he gives access to crafting materials. He also has a few unique features that make him worth a visit.

Demanding that he removes his mask will render him hostile making him another optional boss to fight for secret loot, and after you beat him he will drop The Twisted Mask. This unique item packs the Regrowth passive which can buff your melee and weapon mod damage. Plus, speak to the Wailing Tree on Earth with the mask on and you’ll unlock the Bark Skin Trait.

2 Wud

Wud is one of the more interesting Merchant NPC’s that turn up in Remnant: From The Ashes, mainly because he also has a big lovely dog that you can pet.

He’s located in Rhom near the Black Sun Gate and sells some handy consumables as well as the Ossesus Set and the Jewel of The Black Sun ring. But it’s not just some of the game’s powerful accessories that you get, players can unlock the Very Good Boy weapon mod by petting his dog which summons your very own doggo that deals damage. There’s also an optional boss-fight next to him. If you revive the Ancient Construct outside of his shop with a Control Rod it will drop the Ancient Core which you can hand in for the Iron Sentinel weapon mod. This ability drops a turret that fires five rounds a second at five damage apiece for 30 seconds.

1 Houndmaster

Another dog-themed NPC, the Houndmaster is slightly harder to track down as there’s a real chance he just might not spawn in your game at all. Re-rolling your world can fix this though so if you plan on hunting him down for his wares then you can find him in Rhom and his location in that area can vary since the game is procedural.

He’s easy to notice though, the claws and mutations are a bit of a giveaway. Once you find him he will sell the Houndmaster’s Jerky for 500 Scrap. This unique item sold only by him will increase Critical Hit damage by 15% for an hour. So if your build is focusing on doing big numbers whenever you hit then he is someone worth visiting for his handy buff.
