The year has not been devoid of big game releases. So far there have been some heavy hitters like Monster Hunter Rise and Persona 5 Strikers. That said, the year has also received its fair share of delays, including Deathloop, Gran Turismo 7, and Hogwarts Legacy.

Will there be any more triple-A games that will get pushed back further or maybe even out of 2021 altogether? Only time will tell but in the meantime there are plenty of indie games waiting in the wings to launch. Some of the most promising are already out on PC, and waiting for their console releases has been killer.

10 Rogue Legacy 2

Rogue Legacy 2 hit Early Access on Steam last year. As of February, it has gone into version 0.3.0 with a patch. This probably means, at best, it will go into 1.0 status on PC by the end of the year meaning fans on consoles will have to wait until 2022 if one is being generous. When the original launched on PC in 2013, it only took a year to come to both PS3, PS4, and PS Vita so there is always hope.

9 Loop Hero

Loop Hero just came out on PC in March. It’s a roguelike, deck building game where everything is almost automated. The point is to strive to make the best run possible through the best builds possible via choices, gear, and so on. It’s hard to ignore for console players as it’s constantly blowing up online via streamers and other members of the games media. This would be perfect on Switch but there’s been no news on any console port dates.

8 Record Of Lodoss War: Deedlit In Wonder Labyrinth

Record of Lodoss War: Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth was also a March release for PC. It is based on an old set of Japanese novels from the the late 80s which eventually turned into a manga and anime.

7 30XX

30XX is the sequel to 20XX which released in 2016. This game just entered Early Access in February so like Rogue Legacy 2, one can at least be hopeful to see it launch on PC by the end of the year. Both games are roguelike platformers in the style of Mega Man X. The original had a cheaper, flash animated style while this sequel has gone pull pixel and looks leagues better.

6 Skul: The Hero Slayer

Skul: The Hero Slayer launches officially this past January on PC. It’s a more frantic roguelike with combat mirroring that of something akin to Devil May Cry but pixelated and in 2D. It received very well on PC too making console players jealous once more. Unlike the other entries on here there was actually an update on this via Nintendo’s recent Indie Showcase. It’s slated for a Summer 2021 on Switch which could mean anything.

5 GTFO

GTFO hit Steam Early Access in 2019. For those that don’t remember, or know, this is a four player co-op shooter similar to games like Left 4 Dead. Switch out zombies for monsters and that is this experience. Those that have played the early version seem to be positive on it despite bugs. It’s only a matter of time before it officially launches on PC with hopefully PS5 and Xbox Series X versions soon to follow.

4 Pathway

This hit PCs in 2019. The basic breakdown of the game is that it is X-Com with an Indiana Jones like aesthetic. In other words, it it a strategy RPG set in the 1930s around dig sites. Since this genre is very underutilized, the more the merrier as they say. There has not been a console announcement date for any specific platform but buzz has been good enough on this game meaning it should come eventually.

3 Fae Tactics

Fae Tactics launched last year for PC. It was done through Humble Bundles’ publishing division, Humble Games, which has been pretty good about bringing its content to consoles. Fae Tactics is like Pokemon plus Final Fantasy Tactics, another sub-genre of the strategy RPG market fans have been itching for since Square Enix seemingly refuses to make new entries. Right now it looks like it is supposed to hit Switch first for the console market at some point.

2 Them’s Fighting Herds

Them’s Fighting Herds is another PC launch from last year that was helped via Humble Games. That was the official 1.0 launch but it had been in Steam Early Access since 2018.

For those unaware, this unique fighting game is about a bunch of animals dunking it out. The animation style is reminiscent of 2D fighters like from Arc System Works. There are no listings for consoles as of now.

1 Praey For The Gods

Praey for the Gods hit Steam Early Access in 2019. As of right now it looks like there are plans to both officially launch it on PC this year along with hit Xbox and PlayStation consoles. It is the game PlayStation fans have been especially itching for as it is homage in gameplay style to Shadow of the Colossus. Why it took a team almost two decades to copy that game’s idea is a mystery especially when games like Grand Theft Auto was cloned to heck and back almost immediately after the third entry.
