Ash definitely hasn’t caught em all yet in the anime and in fact there are so many Pokémon that he still needs to catch it seems like he’ll never complete his pokédex. He also is known to release some of his Pokémon every now and then which makes collecting all of them an even harder task. Ash hasn’t even managed to collect every starter Pokémon so how can he possibly hope to catch every Legendary?

This list will show Pokémon fans 10 Pokémon that still haven’t been caught by Ash and the reasons that he needs to catch them as soon as possible. From fiery chickens to giant dragons, here are 10 Pokémon that Ash still needs to catch in the Pokémon anime!

10 Piplup

Ash’s traveling companion in the Sinnoh region, Dawn, had a Piplup as her partner Pokémon. Because of this, Ash never ended up catching his own Piplup which is a shame because this water-type starter is a real powerhouse, especially once it evolves.

Piplup is a fan favorite for Gen-IV players because of it’s cute appearance and powerful evolution. Hopefully Ash will catch one of these blue penguin Pokémon in the future but it unfortunately just isn’t too likely. At least he’ll always have his Buizel for a strong Sinnoh water-type!

9 Eevee

It is peculiar that Ash still hasn’t caught himself an Eevee because it is a really strong Pokémon with so much potential evolutionary wise. He has interacted with different Eevees many times so he definitely is aware of their existence.

The main reason that Ash needs to catch an Eevee is that it could be a friend to Pikachu because of their similar traits of being extremely cute but also fierce. It is entirely possible that Ash could catch one of these Gen I fan favorites in the future, or at least one of its evolutions!

8 Mudkip

Mudkip is an absolute cutie and has become somewhat of an inside joke in the Pokémon community. Ash never caught one of these because Brock had one instead. The only starter that Ash caught in the Hoenn region was a Treecko, this is unfortunate because he would have worked so well with a Swampert, which is a powerful dual Water/Ground-Type.

If Ash goes back to Hoenn then he should consider catching this Water-Type mud lover to help him slowly complete the Hoenn pokédex along with other Hoenn Pokémon he still hasn’t caught. He’s only a few hundred away!

7 Meowth

Every Pokémon fan’s dream is to see Ash catch team rocket’s mascot. Meowth is usually displayed in a satirical light however he is actually quite a strong feline. Unfortunately it is not a likely occurrence because the writers of the show wouldn’t want a weird dynamic between Team Rocket and Ash.

If Ash had a Meowth, it would be fun to watch team rocket’s Meowth pick a fight with his own which is the main reason why this little cat deserves a spot on this list. Maybe Ash could catch something similar, like a Skitty or a Persian!

6 Salamence

Salamence is one of the strongest Pokémon to exist in the franchise’s universe. Most players of the Pokémon games enjoyed catching one of these for themselves and it’s no surprise with its powerful design and high stats.

Ash could definitely use one of these during gym battles and Pokémon leagues. Realistically it wouldn’t be too weird for Ash to catch either Salemance or one of its prior evolutions but fans shouldn’t hold their breath because it isn’t especially likely. Fans just want to see Ash control a massive dragon.

5 Diglett

It’s bizarre that Ash hasn’t caught a Diglett yet because it is an extremely easy Pokémon to catch and it is quite a common creature in the Pokémon world. Ash could definitely use a few more ground-types in his collection of Pokémon friends so this is definitely a potential candidate for Ash to catch in the future.

With Digletts Alolan form comes even more of a reason for Ash to catch this little ground-type Pokémon and at this point Ash doesn’t have an excuse to not already have one. It is likely that Ash will eventually add a Diglett to his team but only time will tell if it happens.

4 Torchic

Torchic is the Fire-Type starter in the Hoenn region. May had one of these Pokémon in her party which is probably why Ash decided not to catch one. Torchic’s evolution Blaziken is a powerful Fighting/Fire-Type that Ash could have used during Pokémon leagues so it is quite sad that fans never saw him catch one.

Ash is known to occasionally catch Pokémon from previous regions but it’s just not likely that he’ll pick one of these little chickens up anytime soon. If he does though, the two will be a fiery combination that will incinerate all of his enemies with ease!

3 Mew

Mew isn’t an easy Pokémon to catch for any trainer, but if Ash sets his mind to it he can accomplish any goal! Except winning almost every Pokémon league, he’s proven to not be too talented in that area.

If Ash decided to try to catch the legendary Pokémon Mew he would have quite the task ahead of him but he would probably eventually get his chance to catch it. Perhaps one of Ash’s friends will catch it in the future, nobody can be completely certain what will happen in the future.

2 Togepi

Ash traveled with Misty and her Togepi for a long time however he never obtained one himself. This little egg would make for quite the cutie in Ash’s current roster and if it evolves into its final form it could potentially become one of his strongest battle Pokémon.

Because Togepi already had its place in the anime, Ash catching one is almost certainly not going to happen however never say never is a good catchphrase for Ash because he has done the unexpected before. Ash deserves a cute Togepi to have as a traveling companion!

1 Raichu

Raichu is the evolution of Ash’s partner Pokémon Pikachu. Ash decided not to evolve Pikachu so he never had the chance to obtain a Raichu for himself. He probably won’t ever end up catching this electric-type super mouse because he wouldn’t want to make Pikachu feel like he’s being replaced.

Fans of the series have waited years to see if Ash will eventually decide to evolve Pikachu but it’s hardly even a possibility anymore. Perhaps one of Ash’s traveling companions will have a Raichu in a future Pokémon series but unfortunately, fans probably won’t be seeing one of these electric-types by Ash’s side for a very long time!
