Pokemon has remained popular due to the vast amount of entertainment mediums it exists in and its ability to release new generations of creatures. Though many fans have lifelong favorites they’ve cherished for decades, most find new lovable creatures in each new region.
Fans love to discuss how Pokemon rank against one another and the criteria range from strategic to visual. It’s time to look at just 10 Pokemon who are much heavier than they appear to be upon first glance, through Pokemon Sword & Shield.
10 Stonjourner
Before anyone loses their minds, it is understood that most people would assume that a stone Pokemon would weigh a fair amount. The thing about Stonjourner is that it weighs much more than what people think it does. This Rock-type comes in at an astounding weight of 1146 lbs. which is ridiculous no matter how you look at it. Stonjourner made its debut in the Galar region via the release of the most recent mainline Pokemon franchise entries, Pokemon Sword & Shield on the Nintendo Switch.
9 Crustle
Crustle is the equivalent of someone cutting a section of the Earth out like a piece of cake and granting it sentience. Dirt and rocks can be pretty heavy, but just how heavy can they be when condensed into a 4 ft. tall creature’s back? Well, Crustle weighs 440 lbs. and most of that weight comes from the block of sediment sitting in the place of a shell. It should come as no surprise that a Pokemon this sturdy also has a high base stat in terms of defense and is one of the slowest Pokemon in existence.
8 Vespiqueen
Bees and wasps are a fairly common fear among humans and hold their own in that regard with spiders and snakes. Vespiqueen, for those who have that fear, is a living nightmare. This royal insect stands at 4 ft. tall and weighs just short of 85 lbs. on average.
The large female is rather slow, so trainers who have their wits about them should be safe. Everyone wants Pokemon to exist in the real world until they realize there are more than a dozen creatures that should stick to a fantasy world.
7 Bewear
Contrary to how adorable some Pokemon look, anatomically they have the same biology as real-life animals. This means when you see a creature like Bewear it’s important to understand that despite it looking like a giant teddy bear, it isn’t filled with cotton. Not only is it heavier than you think, it’s considering one of the more dangerous Pokemon to encounter in the wild. This false prophet of cuteness weighs well over 290 lbs. and stands at a massive 7 ft. tall. Avoid this thing at all costs if you can.
6 Pupitar
Cocoons are often thought of as hollow objects, but when they’re being used they are filled with a creature going through a metamorphosis. The shell casing is often protective and dense but rarely weighs much. Pupitar is the middle evolution between Larvitar and Tyranitar and is the Johto region version of Metapod. It must have a shell that’s equivalent to some sort of metal as it weighs 335 lbs. despite being just shy of 4 ft. tall. This is only 100 lbs. short of what its final form comes in at.
5 Butterfree
Those who grew up watching the Pokemon anime remember how close of a bond Ash Ketchum had with his Butterfree. The episode in which he lets it live a free life among other Butterfree is one of the most memorable and heartbreaking moments of the entire show.
Butterfree is based on a butterfly, insects known for being tiny and elegant. It on the other hand is a bit chubbier and breaks the mold as a butterfly weighing in at a staggering 70 lbs. on average in the wild.
4 Vikavolt
Vikavolt are Bug and Electric dual-type Pokemon that are known as the Stag Beetle Pokemon. They have sleek designs and a name that suggests they are fast, but their base speed stat says otherwise. Its average weight of 99 lbs. is probably a major contributor to that as well as the fact that they are 5ft. long beetles with armor plating. The world of Pokemon isn’t afraid to create nightmare fuel when it comes to the size and weight of the bugs and insects that roam the various regions around the Pokemon world.
3 Crobat
How much can a bat possibly weigh? Crobat, known as the Bat Pokemon, is the final form of Zubat and premiered as a member of the Johto region in the 2nd generation of games. These games were titled Pokemon Gold & Silver and featured new evolutions for several Kanto region Pokemon. Due to sprite designs, many fans assume Crobat is tiny, but it is nearly 6 ft. tall and weighs well over 150 pounds. for having such tiny wings, it somehow manages to move and attack at incredibly fast speeds.
2 Milotic
Milotic is the final form of Feebas and first appeared in the 3rd generation of games. Many people refer to it as the feminine version of Gyarados but forget that that comparison also includes the size of the two deep ocean leviathans. Milotic may look sleek and elegant, but the Tender Pokemon measures in at 20 ft. in length and weighs over 350 pounds. Since it is long and slender it does a better job of distributing its weight across the 20 feet of its body it has, all the way down to its fan-like tail.
1 Centiskorch
Centipedes are interesting insects that have elongated flat bodies with hundreds of legs. Considering their body is stretched out so far their weight is distributed across a larger surface area and because of that, they come across as much lighter than they are. Even a larger mystical version of them like the 7th generation Fire and Bug dual-type known as Centiskorch has a surprising weight. On average the giant fiery beast weighs in at 264 lbs. making it impossibly large and incapable of being squished.
