Pokemon and Naruto have existed side-by-side for the better part of two decades and yet the two properties rarely merge. Fans of both love the characters, so it’s not surprising that the two would work quite nicely as a mash-up. Pokemon build partnerships with humans and they both grow from the bonds formed.
Naruto is home to many troubled characters who would likely find comfort in forming a bond with a Pokemon. Among those tortured characters is a boy named Sasuke who turned from a happy and eager child into a young man focused on revenge.
10 Cubone - The Orphaned Pokemon
Cubone happens to have one of the saddest existences in the world of Pokemon. However, by comparison to Sasuke, it might seem rather tame. The theory around Cubone is that it wears the skull of its mother on its head, but its real face has never been seen.
Most fans believe the theory that Cubone is simply an orphaned baby Kangaskhan and isn’t a different species of Pokemon at all. Losing their family and feeling alone is something Sasuke would connect with a Cubone on almost instantaneously.
9 Corviknight - A Stealth Transport
Having the ability to fly and travel freely however one chooses seems like a huge advantage in the world of Naruto. Corviknight recently made its debut in Pokemon Sword & Shield as a native creature to the Galar region.
In the region, it is known as the carrier of taxi cabs which is the fastest way to get around the region. Sasuke would likely appreciate Corviknight in the sense that it could help in gather intel and pursue those who wronged him in a much more efficient and timely manner.
8 Luxray - The Illuminating Intimidator
From the way Luxray’s fur is shaped on its head to the attitude its face always seems to display, it’s hard to find a Pokemon more Sasuke-like than it. Though Sasuke is known to be strongest with fire, he also happens to be quite powerful when it comes to using lightning release.
He often channels this ability into his sword. A character wielding a lightning-infused sword alongside a giant canine/feline beast that also displays lightning powers is as anime as it gets and would be jaw-dropping to witness.
7 Decidueye - The Shadow Archer
Despite being quite bad with a bow and arrow as a kid, Sasuke later develops a connection to the weapon via his Susanoo. It uses a bow to shoot fire arrows at incredible speeds but doubles as a shield if need be. Sasuke can also fashion arrows for it himself.
The Alolan Islands are home to a solid archer themselves as the local Grass-type starter Pokemon’s final form is a creature known as Decidueye. It is equal parts cloaked owl and skilled archer, but also carries the secondary typing of Ghost.
6 Shiny Charizard - The Edgy Fire Type
Sasuke has a natural affinity for fire despite being able to use all 5 basic nature transformations. This means that his connection to Fire-type Pokemon would likely be quite strong and he’d probably yearn for a connection with a powerful one at that.
Charizard is hard to beat in terms of power and its shiny form is a pitch-black that strikes fear in its opponents. Watching Sasuke release dragon-shaped fireballs alongside a living and breathing dragon would be quite the sight to see during the heat of battle.
5 Umbreon - The Ride Or Die
Sasuke, for the most part, presents himself as a quiet mystery of a man who responds to things in a deadpan manner. He sees a character arc in which he goes from a happy child to tortured young man before landing as a wiser and more mature adult.
Among all of the evolutions of Eevee, Umbreon would likely be the one he most connects with. The Moonlight Pokemon has a natural elegance that turns to a fear-inducing look when the night sky allows the gold rings on its body to glow in the dark. Umbreon also only evolves out of friendship – something echoed in Sasuke’s journey.
4 Arbok - The Poisonous Protector
Anyone who has seen Naruto and is familiar with Sasuke’s journey should immediately understand why Arbok is a perfect Pokemon partner for him. During his time with Orochimaru, Sasuke develops the ability to summon snakes.
As with his connection to fire, this is something that seems to come naturally to him. Having a giant cobra at his side that’s a Poison-type Pokemon would allow him to use more powerful abilities instead of relying on lesser snakes to serve as shields or other tools in the middle of a fight.
3 Quilava - The Fire Pokemon Who Can’t Burn
Just because Sasuke has endured a lot doesn’t mean that he’d only yearn for Pokemon that made him tougher or more mysterious. Pairing him with a Pokemon that’s closer to a dog or a cat seems fitting and thanks to his affinity for fire, a Pokemon like Quilava feels like the proper candidate.
It’s the middle form of the Johto region Fire-type starter Pokemon and will eventually evolve into the fiery bear-like creature known as Typhlosion. Quilava is also non-flammable, so Sasuke won’t have to worry about accidentally hurting it with his fireballs.
2 Houndoom - Sasuke’s Inner Angst
Revenge and inner turmoil seem to be the things attached to Sasuke that he can’t get rid of. He has a dark energy inside him that sapped the naturally optimistic child he once was. His story is dark and twisted and, musically, feels like an aggressive and overpowering metal song.
Houndoom happens to be one of the most metal-looking Pokemon in existence. The Fire and Steel-type would come across as a physical manifestation of all of the pain and suffering Sasuke has had to endure his entire life.
1 Greninja - Actually, Probably Sasuke
Sasuke is an ego-driven individual who only respects things he feels provide value or offer a set of skills. Greninja, the Water-type Pokemon that’s a starter in the 5th gen, happens to meet his criteria.
The fact that it has the word “ninja” in its name should be reason enough as to why it fits as a partner to Sasuke. In addition to that, it is known for its incredible stealth and speed and is best used in covert situations. It also doesn’t hurt that Greninja also aesthetically matches Sasuke’s iconic look in the anime.
