Dragon Ball Super has done an excellent job of satiating longtime Dragon Ball fans with new content while at the same time bringing in a brand-new audience to the franchise. Since the 90s, fans have often discussed who their favorite characters were, with most people landing on either Vegeta or Goku.
The difference was often in relation to the types of personalities fans admired. Vegeta was a hard-headed but tough-as-nails fighter who wanted nothing more than to defeat Goku and surpass him. If he was a Pokemon trainer, it’s interesting to think about which creatures he’d be drawn to.
10 Bisharp
At its core Bisharp is an honor and duty-bound Pokemon that prefers to fight and live as a company among weaker Pawniard. When a leading Bisharp is no longer effective in battle or its blades dull or become ineffective it will retire from its position of leadership. Though Vegeta is considered Goku’s sidekick most of the time he’s definitely a leader with all of the skills necessary to be an effective leader. He’s also a man with tremendous pride that will push himself until his body gives out. It’s unclear if he’d retire in the same way a Bisharp would, however.
9 Sirfetch’d
Most Pokemon fans would agree that Sirfetch’d is arguably the hardest Pokemon to obtain via evolution. In order to get one trainers must have their Galarian Farfetch’d land 3 critical hits in one battle. Though there’s a held item that makes it more manageable, it’s still the most tedious evolution in the series. Vegeta hates easy victories and his whole interest in fighting is overcoming adversity and testing himself as much as he can. He’d find solace in taking on the burden of trying to evolve his Galarian Farfetch’d into a Sirfetch’d.
8 Salamence
Pairing Vegeta with a dragon simply feels right and there’s no explanation needed. The Saiyan Prince is a man of presence and it fits him perfectly that he’d arrive on the back of a giant flying legendary creature that happens to breathe fire. Salamence is a Pokemon rooted in desire as it is said it grew wings due to how badly it wanted to fly. Desire is something that defines Vegeta’s legacy as well as he spends his entire life trying to surpass the strength and combat effectiveness of Goku, despite it becoming clear that it’s an impossible goal to achieve.
7 Luxray
The Dragon Ball Z series and anime in general are often the subject of jokes related to the wild hair featured in the shows. A big part of Saiyan biology is that their hair chances as they level up and Luxray happens to be one of the select Pokemon that embodies the same energy that Saiyan and anime hair does.
The Electric-type is part canine part feline and has a certain attitude about itself. It can spot hiding prey, which would come in handy as Vegeta is in search of a target he must take down in order to save those he cares about.
6 Nidoking
Nidoking may not be a Fighting-type, but the Poison and Ground-type hybrid has a couple of things tying it to the Saiyan Prince known as Vegeta. First of all, it has a word related to royalty in its name which easily connects it to Vegeta. The other thing is that despite it being ferocious it’s also smaller than Vegeta. He’s a man with a complex related to his stature, so the safest bet is that he would likely go for really strong Pokemon that also happen to be smaller than him. The last thing Vegeta would want is to feel inferior.
5 Pangoro
Pangoro is a Dark and Fighting-type Pokemon, the types people would probably associate with Vegeta if he was a Pokemon. This giant panda is known to have a violent temperament, but surprisingly it hates bullying and will stop at nothing to eliminate it entirely. This means Pangoro would likely be a Pokemon Vegeta would appreciate in the second half of his character arc, as the early narrative version of Vegeta would likely be at odds with a creature who hates bullying more than anything and isn’t afraid to lash out with a bit of violent behavior.
4 Kommo-O
There’s almost nothing cooler than hearing about a Dragon-type Pokemon that sits in a cave waiting for an opponent worth fighting. Kommo-O will actively turn away any challengers it feels aren’t of sufficient skill. It isn’t pursuing an engagement simply to fight something and destroy it, it wants to be challenged.
Vegeta has an incredible character arc where he changes his motivations and turns into someone looking to better himself after an introduction in which he was painted as nothing more than a spoiled and whiny bully.
3 Grapploct
The idea of Vegeta wanting to train an octopus-inspired Pokemon may seem a bit weird at first, but the connection is certainly there. Outside of simply being a Fighting-type Pokemon, Grapploct is also known as the Tantrum Pokemon. When looking at the roster of characters in Dragon Ball Z it’s hard to find someone more prone to throwing tantrums than Vegeta. It often is seen searching for opponents of sufficient skill so it can test its strength against them, which is something Vegeta pursues as well on a constant basis.
2 Incineroar
Vegeta is often considered Goku’s rival and despite that, they are more similar than either would like to admit. A Pokemon like Incineroar is a creature who feels like it could be trained by either Goku or Vegeta as it fits the type of things each would look for in a companion. Since Incineroar is Fire and Fighting-type that means that it holds within itself the same fiery disposition that Vegeta is often harnessing himself right under the surface. It also happens to be prone to violence and quite selfish, making it eerily similar to Vegeta in that respect as well.
1 Primeape
When it comes to Vegeta two of his most notable characteristics are his aggressive attitude and competence in a fight. As a Saiyan he also has a connection to apes that’s often lost on lapsed fans of the franchise. Primeape seems like the ideal Pokemon for the Saiyan with a complex and fits him almost too closely. Both are stubborn and unwilling to back down from a fight, but at the same time are more than capable of holding their own. Primeape’s two possible abilities are called Vital Spirit and Anger Point, which could easily be names of framed paintings of Vegeta.
