Pokemon is an extremely popular franchise and because of that its crossover with other properties in terms of fan interest is all over the place. The chances of a Pokemon fan being into comics or superhero films is rather high and the people talking about Batman and Superman could likely argue over Snorlax and Slaking.
Inspiration comes from many places and DC Comics and Pokemon probably have their share of similarities. Let’s take a look at 10 Pokemon who resemble Justice League members, including new Pokemon from Pokemon Sword & Shield.
10 Manectric (Booster Gold)
Everyone has a funny friend that thinks they’re a lot funnier than they are. In the world of the Justice League, one singular hero fills that role, and his name is Booster Gold. He’s an extroverted hero with quite an ego and that’s reflected in his chromatic gold and blue suit he sports. Manectric is a blue and gold Pokemon that presents itself as a lot cooler than it is, but its design is full of interesting flair. It’s unclear who would be more useful in battle, but it’s hard to deny the similarities between the two.
9 Gothitelle (Zatanna)
Zatanna may not be one of the more popular Justice League members, but she happens to have a pretty unique and identifiable look. She’s a magic-user who’s the daughter of a famous magician, who like her, cast spells by uttering phrases backward. She’s often seen wearing the iconic black and white magician’s outfit, but with a feminine flair. The closest thing to this in the world of Pokemon is a Psychic-type from the 5th generation games named Gothitelle, who’s native to the Unova region featured in Pokemon Black & White.
8 Incineroar (Shazam)
Not going to lie, this one is a bit of a stretch but there’s enough there to make it work. Shazam is a hero who’s gained in popularity thanks to a beloved film that came out recently. The buff DC hero is a child at heart and physically rivals Superman in terms of muscle bulk and definition.
Incineroar is a Dark and Fire-type starter who shares the colors of Shazam and has the same broad and muscular chest that helps them look the part. The only thing missing is a giant lightning bolt in Incineroar’s fur chest.
7 Corviknight (Batman)
The easy choice for Batman on this list would be to go with something like Noivern or Crobat, which are both bat-inspired Pokemon that perfectly tie themselves to the Batman mythos. The problem is that Batman’s all-black attire is what makes his appearance iconic and definitively Batman. Corviknight is the newest Pokemon on this list and the giant obsidian bird strikes fear in people the same way Batman’s suit does. Both are large black silhouetted nightmare fuel no one wants to run into in the wild.
6 Crawdaunt (Wonder Woman)
Sadly, there aren’t many Pokemon that exude the same type of Americanized feminine power that Wonder Woman’s design has. That being said, there is a Pokemon that sports the same colors and also happens to have a star shape as a prominent piece of its design. The Pokemon in question is the Dark and Water-type lobster known as Crawdaunt, introduced in the 4th generation of games and is the fully evolved form of Corphish. It may not be beautiful, but it resembles parts of Wonder Woman’s iconic look.
5 Decidueye (Green Arrow)
Green Arrow shares many of the same powers and traits as Marvel’s Hawkeye, but for some reason doesn’t get dunked on as often on the internet. As his name would suggest Green Arrow is known for his green cloak and his signature bow he uses to vanquish evil. The most prominent archer in the world of Pokemon is a Grass and Ghost-type known as Decidueye. It’s the final form of the starter Pokemon Rowlet and shrouds itself in a cloak of green, reminiscent of the protector of Star City.
4 Cinderace (Flash)
The Flash is a superhero known for his red and yellow suit and his extreme speed. Pokemon as a franchise has many different Pokemon who are very fast, but the red and yellow coloring is where the options are narrowed. It comes down to the 8th generation starter known as Cinderace and the shiny form of Talonflame.
Since Cinderace is much more popular and doesn’t require a special state, the rabbit with 119 speed as its base stat and a design brimming with reds and yellows wins the crown as the Flash’s Pokemon doppelganger.
3 Genesect (Cyborg)
When looking at Cyborg it was clear that his match would either be a Pokemon that looked robotic, or one that was covered in metal. It’s easy to pair them once all-star athlete with the likes of Magnezone or Steelix, but there happens to be a Pokemon with human-like proportions that’s half living creature and half technology. That Pokemon is the Bug and Steel-type from the 5th generation known as Genesect. Many theories suggest that it’s a Kabutops that underwent scientific experimentation, but that has yet to be confirmed.
2 Greninja (Nightwing)
Greninja is the stealth-based Water-type starter from the 6th generation of games and a big fan favorite. It has a sleek and mysterious design that relies on blue as its primary color. Though Nightwing is a hero that has a black suit with blue accents, the ninja connection and emphasis on blue make Greninja feel like a Pokemon version of the former Robin. Greninja’s shiny form is all-black which makes it feel much more like Dick Grayson’s old teacher and leader. This would be the living embodiment of fear, Batman.
1 Luxray (Static)
Static may be less popular than many of the other DC Comics heroes on this list, but he is as much a Justice League member as they are. Most people know the hero from his popular afternoon cartoon series titled Static Shock that followed a younger version of the electrified hero. His primary colors are blue, yellow, and black and his power base is rooted in electricity. This means that Luxray not only resembles the hero, but the Electric-type Pokemon also shares the same ability base as Static, otherwise known as Virgil Hawkins.
