As the console generations keep advancing, creativity and a sense of humor advance just the same. For years, people have entertained us with their approach to the new consoles’ shapes, sizes, abilities, and pricing, to name just a few aspects that have come under fire.

This new console generation is no exception. Fridge versus Router says it all. Both the Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5 have kept it a fun and exciting time to watch the public’s take on the concept to launch changes. Fortunately for everyone, the machines give creators a lot to work with when creating memes.

10 The Tables Have Turned. Or Have They?

Many gamers like to Display their consoles. Use the consoles as part of the décor in the room. Especially if the room is a common shared room. Why not show them off as a functional piece of the room too, not just gaming machines. Entertain with entertainment. Though this living room piece will cost a fair amount more than the average coffee table, it’s the ambiance it brings. The question is though, is Microsoft carrying Sony or is Sony dominating Microsoft in this generation.

9 The Difference Is Apparent, Really?

There’s no denying the fact PlayStation has made changes, big changes, to their controller. It still looks like a PlayStation controller and has the same response as we have come accustomed to. Regardless, the aesthetic similarities are ever-present. The familiar white/blue combination is familiar with PlayStation’s VR. Other than that, anyone unfamiliar with consoles these days may mistake one for the other.

8 I Knew There Was Something Familiar About It

The Xbox Series X cube look speaks for itself. The Xbox Series X has a classy simple look with a clean finish, for a cube. From the inception of the original box until the Xbox One the systems all had a flat, long and proportionally thin look to them. Starting with the Xbox 360, it could be laid on its side for a low profile look or stood up to de-clutter and slide into shelving areas to take up less real estate. The Xbox One had a more “square” approach to design but still afforded the low-rider style on its side and slender vertically for smaller storage areas. The Xbox Series X is stacked Nintendo GameCubes vertically and two Nintendo GameCubes side by side horizontally.

7 The Tower

The PlayStation 5 is not without its own faults. Enter the meme monsters. Architecture has come a long way over the centuries. Buildings have grown to not only become just functional but functional pieces of art. Sometimes design choices should be left on the cutting room floor. This of course is strictly opinion-based. The memes speak for themselves.

6  Of Course, Why Not?

The familiarity in this meme is staggering. As it was before and is now, the Xbox systems seem to have a rough, less sleek style than the PlayStation systems. The underdog look has always followed the console from generation to generation. Style over functionality is not an apparent trait in the design choice. Square, rectangle Xbox systems or the sleek, fancy different architectural choices of the PlayStation systems. Seems WALL-E and Eve definitely show the differences throughout the ages.

5 Has Sony Lost “Control”?

There is almost no denying what the public is stating. The PlayStation controllers have always had a similar feel since the PlayStation inception in 1995 the controller had always had that “I’m home” feel for PlayStation purists.

The similarities between the 2 controllers could almost suggest some fan input in the creation. Seeing what has transpired now in 2020 there is no doubt a design choice that will initiate some backlash from the public that wanted the familiarity. Will this change stand the test of time?

4 A Long Time Ago Yet Just Released

Of course Star Wars! Seeing that Xbox has always tried to be the good guy, PlayStation seems to keep up its reputation with the dark side of gaming. Plus this meme just works on many levels. We can see the familiarity with General Grievous and the PlayStation 5. The PlayStation 5 just needs the cape and helmet and voila, General Grievous 2.0 now with SSD. Not only will he be able to use all 4 light sabers, but he will do it faster and with fewer load times. Xbox on the other hand has that warm green hue on the top. All he needs is a cloak and the look is complete.

3 Driving Your Xbox Series X

Classic style, power, reliability and originality. The Mercedes of the Xbox line up is here. Keeping to what has been tried and true with style and sophistication. While like this Mercedes Benz G-Class, the Xbox styling remains familiar and comfortable in its final form, it’s what’s under the hood that counts.

The engine behind the new Xbox Series X is what does all the talking for Microsoft. Soon enough we will know what longevity it has.

2 Drive Your PS5

Sony has the reputation for innovation in design. Risk-taking with style and architecture is something that Sony has a good reputation for. Past console iterations have all had a way of making everyone look at the consoles with a raised eyebrow and the PlayStation 5 is probably the most drastic of the line-up. Now like this BMW Hybrid Super Car, the new PlayStation 5 has all the markings of a concept to successful reality build. In the same under that sleek stylish form is a smart, fast, efficient motor running all the latest console hardware.

1 Perry The Xbox

This meme says it all. Dr. DoofenStation and Perry the Xbox. One almost evil scientist with a slightly vulnerable demeanor and an agile undercover astute console ready to be there for everyone. The raised collar approach lends itself nicely too. Both PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X have made great mediums for meme creativity. From the onset of this evolved console war until now, all players in the battle seem to have vulnerable caveats to entertain the most creative minds in meme creation. It’s fun and thought-provoking in the same as this console war wages on. Memes are here to stay as the consoles. The future is bright in the meme world.
