Mega evolution was introduced well after the release of Pokemon Diamond & Pearl. This power-up phenomenon was a way for trainers to push past the limits of their power and bond with their partners. While it’s still too early to say whether we’ll see this as a mechanic in the upcoming Sinnoh remakes Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, it’s a definite possibility.

This is because mega evolution was used in the Let’s Go Pikachu & Eevee games which were essentially remakes of Pokemon Yellow. If mega evolution will be included, this opens up the potential that some of the region’s Pokemon (not including the ones who already do) could get mega forms of their own. Here are some of Sinnoh’s inhabitants who would have phenomenal mega evolutions.

10 Mega Luxray

Shinx is a cute electric cat Pokemon that evolves into the majestic Luxray. This powerful lion Pokemon would be beautifully lit up in a mega form with possibly becoming an Electric/Psychic-type. Psychic would be the main choice because Luxray has the power to sell through walls and such, so it would pair perfectly with its electric power. Not to mention the Kalos gym leader Clemont had one in the anime. This opens up the possibility for a Pokemon X&Y remake somewhere down the line where players could see Clemont using a mega Luxray.

9 Mega Floatzel

Floatzel has always been an interesting Pokemon because its appearance (minus the tube on its neck) gives no indication that it is a Water-type Pokemon. Most aquatic Pokemon somewhat look like they live in the sea, but Floatzel might as well be just a weasel with a fancy neckpiece. In actuality, this Pokemon rescues people from drowning in the water. That’s why it would work beautifully as a Fairy-type if it mega evolved, as they are Pokemon are often associated with good things and helping people.

8 Mega Purugly

Many veteran players will recall the pain of battling galactic commander Mars and her Purugly. That cat barely took any damage due to its Thick Fat ability. Giving Purugly a mega evolution would be perfect to amplify the battles with Mars, giving players the difficulty that they are always whining and begging for. This Pokemon’s grumpy sort of bullying nature would make it perfect to become a Dark-type upon mega evolving and develop a resistance to Ghost-type Pokemon in the process.

7 Mega Lumineon

One of the prettiest Water-type Pokemon to date, Lumineon prefers to reside close to the ocean floor, which is why it would be perfect to become a Water-type and Ground-type when mega-evolving. This would make sense because its number one rival is the Water/Electric-type fish Lanturn. Evolution by definition is changing in order to adapt, so it would make a lot of sense for Lumineon to get one step ahead of its competitor. Not to mention it would take less damage from other electric types after that.

6 Mega Weavile

Weavile is one of the most popular Pokemon with fans so giving it a mega evolution for that reason alone would make sense. Any Pokemon that ‘sells’ is always going to have first priority when it comes to getting new forms. Designs cost money, effort, and time so the only ones worth making are the ones that are going to bring in revenue to cover the investment that went into making it. Seeing as it is quite the intelligent one, it’s easy to picture becoming an Ice/Psychic-type when evolving or even just completely a Dark-type.

5 New Dialga And Palkia Forms

Legendaries have gotten mega evolutions before so the mascots of Diamond and Pearl will most likely be granted some kind of new forms.

Dialga and Palkia are key elements in the story of Sinnoh and while the plot involving Team Galactic probably won’t change all that much, new forms could be an element used for a plot device to freshen up the tale.

4 Mega Vespiqueen

Vespiqueen would have a beautiful mega form resembling that of a monarch since she is themed after a queen bee. Once upon a time, Bug-types suffered from what is basically early game unit syndrome, meaning they stopped being useful up to a certain point in the playthrough. This was because all Bug-type moves were physical up until generation four when some of them were changed to special. Despite this, they are still one of the most resisted types and have some of the lowest special attack moves. Vespiqueen could use a mega evolution (perhaps Bug/Fairy-type or Bug/Fire-type) to ensure she does not hit opponents like a wet noodle.

3 Mega Drifblim

Drifblim would be fantastic with a mega evolution themed after fire since it does resemble a hot air balloon a little bit. Sword and Shield with its mythical creatures design theme really spot-lit Ghost-type Pokemon and brought them into new popularity. This opens up the possibility of them getting more attention in future games like the upcoming remakes. In fact, Ghost-type designs like Drifbloom have transitioned from being less creepy to a balance of cute and scary over the years. Not to mention this Pokemon’s whimsical appearance leaves a lot of room for a really creative mega design.

2 Mega Gliscor

After the launch of the second generation, players wondered when and if we could one day see an evolution for the popular Gligar. Gliscor came with Sinnoh and it was every bit as fabulous as people had hoped for.

He would look excellent with a Steel-type mega form themed after a kaiju-style monster. Gliscor’s defense is already pretty high so becoming a Steel-type would only increase his defense and give him an advantage against Ice-types as well.

1 Mega Bibarel

Nope, this is not a joke and there’s a good explanation for it.  Designers have shown a tendency to put the spotlight on Pokemon who have been forgotten about. The biggest example of this was making Galarian Farfetch’d. Farfetch’d was a first-generation Pokemon that people always made fun of and meme’d about. It was the original Bidoof meme. Now that Farfetch’d got dusted off with a new form and new evolution, Bidoof could very well get the same treatment in the remakes.
