Coral Island was a Kickstarter that was recently funded and reached a whopping 2341% of its goal. The game drew in players with a competent layout, a video showing the game’s features, and the sheer amount of passion that could be felt from the dev team.
Instead of following in the footsteps of other farm sims, the game is poised to break many traditions to make Coral Island a phenomenal title and one of the most inventive simulation titles gamers have seen since the release of Stardew Valley. There is a lot to digest when it comes to Coral Island, but below are some things that it wants to improve upon.
10 Creating a Diverse Cast
There is a huge cast of characters from all walks of life, and all of them have an adult appearance with tons of detail. There is a recently divorced mom, a man who is focused on taking care of his mom, and a doctor who is covered in tattoos.
The game doesn’t shy away from complicated pasts for their characters. Nor does it restrict characters by ethnicity or background. The cast looks like a group of adults who can actually be found in a real-life setting.
9 Double The Marriage Candidates
This game is going to be a grail for fans of dating sims as there are 22 marriage candidates on the way. That means that more than half the town is single and ready to mingle. Every candidate will have their own unique story and cutscenes, giving the game tons of replayability.
It’s always been hard to choose who to marry in sims, but with this many characters, players will likely be making multiple saves. Best of all, players can marry anyone on the island regardless of their gender.
8 Kids Actually Grow Up
Children have been a hot topic in farming sims for quite some time. Ever since Harvest Moon: A Wonderful World lets your child grow up, gamers have wanted another sim to have the same feature. Sadly, the most players generally get is a few toddlers running around their home.
Coral Island is going to let your kids turn into teenagers and develop their own personalities. The children will have events and parents will be able to help shape their future.
7 Unique Merfolk Kingdom
While mythical creatures have been seen in farming sims before, they certainly never got their own kingdom or became marriage candidates. In Coral Island, you are able to unlock the Merfolk Kingdom and make friends with its residents, including two who are willing to marry you.
The catch is that the kingdom is initially blocked, and the player must learn a new language.
6 Deep-Sea Adventure
Coral Island is extremely focused on environmental preservation. The game allows players to dive into the sea and help restore the coral reefs. As the player progresses, they will be able to explore more of the ocean and help clean things up to return the environment to its former glory.
Players will be able to get rare breeds of fish and collect kelp to help with their farm.
5 Pets (With More On The Way)
There is most likely going to be a huge amount of pets in the game – especially since the developers gave out 20 different pet packages to high-paying backers. The game is already set to have a dragon, so it won’t surprise anyone to see a wide range of creative pets.
The game’s Kickstarter also mentions that there will be cats, dogs, monkeys, and foxes.
4 Unique Outfits
One thing that really helps add to a game is making NPCs fit into the setting. Coral Island will do this by giving the characters different seasonal outfits.
Players won’t have to worry about characters wearing shorts in the winter or hot sweaters in the summer as the cast will dress accordingly. In addition, the cast also has bathing suits and a special beach-themed festival outfit.
3 Bug Catching
Outside of Animal Crossing, no sims really focus on bug catching. Luckily, Coral Island seems to want to join in on the fun. The game will have several bugs for players to collect and document.
The update from Stairway Games states that there are over 30 bugs to collect. This includes exotic-looking species, and more details on the feature should be released later on.
2 Skill Tree
Another huge change is the skill tree which is very compact in Stardew Valley and updates automatically. The skill tree in Coral Island is divided into three categories: social, mastery, and proficiency.
These can help to increase the number of plants you can harvest at once or make it easier to befriend villagers. Players can update the skill tree according to their preferences and enjoy the benefits that work best with their playstyle.
1 Time Options
One of the best quality of life features this game has is the option to adjust the time. This helps players play at their own pace without having to feel rushed by a clock or spend forever waiting for shops to open. Players can freely adjust how time passes in their game to find the perfect fit.
To do this, players simply need to use an easily adjustable time slide to speed-up or slow down the day and night cycle.
