Borderlands 3 is the latest game from Gearbox Software. It was not received as well as its predecessors since it did not change the formula that much. As our review mentions, the game is excellent for fans already sold on the Borderlands franchise, but for others, it’s too long, has a forgettable story, and not all of its systems work.
For fans of the franchise, though, Borderlands 3 is an excellent game. It brings back a billion guns with special features, freedom of exploration, and tons of loot. It remains one of the best looter-shooter games out there.
Many players have completed the game by now, and for the most part, they’ve completed the main mission and a few side quests. However, there are a number of things that most players missed. These are the things that, when you find out about them, are worth returning to the game for.
10 Secret Eridium Room
One of the most valuable resources in Borderlands 3 is Eridium. Players can use it to obtain updated weapons that can help them win more challenging boss fights. However, it is not an easily obtainable substance, and most players end up not enjoying the full benefits of the resource.
That’s why a secret Eridium room is such a draw. YouTuber Glitching Queen discovered one that not only has a ton of Eridium, it also regenerates any amount taken from it when the player restarts the game. Finding the room is a hurdle, and most players probably haven’t even heard of it, but the rewards make it worth it.
9 Eridian Fabricator
Borderlands 3 has a billion guns, so a few are bound to stand out. The Eridian Fabricator does a better job of this than most. This is a gun that can literally shoot out other guns, leading to a near-infinite amount of loot. The weapons are all tied to the player’s level, so there’s no chance that they can get something underpowered or that they can’t unlock for several levels.
There is only one way to get this gun: by completing the game. The Eridian Fabricator is only available to players who complete one of the game’s final missions.
8 Hidden Roller Coaster
Roller coasters are not that rare in Borderlands games. But in Borderlands 3, the developers included a comprehensive mini-game involving roller coasters that most players missed.
The roller coaster is located in Splinterlands, just off the beaten path. Splinterlands is a desert, and the mission that takes the player here involves plenty of driving around, so most players likely took shortcuts to their destinations and ended up not even knowing there was a roller coaster hiding here. Players can board the roller coaster and shoot the switch to turn it on. Then, as the roller coaster starts moving, the player can shoot a series of targets along the track.
7 Extreme Hangin’ Chadd
The Borderlands franchise loves its humor, and the third installment is no different. The game has a weapon called Extreme Hangin’ Chadd that stands out because it has infinite ammo and it never overheats. The name itself is a tongue-in-cheek reference to the 2000 Presidential Election.
To obtain the Extreme Hangin’ Chadd, players have to finish the ‘Swamp Bro’ side mission. They can find this quest in Reliance town on Eden-6. This gun might not be as powerful as Legendary ones, but it’s plenty of fun to use, and it can easily take out enemies Level 28 or below.
6 Secret Bookshelf Room
When the player is in the Jakobs Estate during the Lair of the Harpy mission, they can encounter a bookshelf that prevents them from entering a secret room. Players need to solve a puzzle to enter the secret room, but the game doesn’t offer any clues, so most players just give up and move on.
A few diehard completionists, though, learned that they can open the bookshelf by activating a number of objects within the Estate. The value of the rewards might be a tad disappointing considering the amount of effort and ingenuity needed to unlock the secret room, but players who do so can at least rest easy knowing they are among the few to find this hidden place.
5 Mouthpiece Secret Room
In the Holy Broadcast Center, there is an area that players can’t seem to access regardless of what they do. After defeating Mouthpiece, the player accesses a room with an organ inside. After this room, they can see another room on the map, but they have no way of accessing it.
The secret to this room doesn’t involve puzzles or anything like that. Players simply have to defeat New Mouthpiece later on. They will have access to the organ room once again, and if they interact with the organ, they will gain access to the secret room.
4 One Pump Chump
This is a weapon that directly references the One Punch Man anime. One Pump Chump is a Legendary shotgun that has a perk that makes it resemble the anime’s protagonist: its damage is over 1,000%. To most enemies, one shot literally means their doom. That insane damage makes the One Pump Chump one of the most powerful weapons in the game.
To get it, players should head to the planet Promethea’s Lectra City. Here, they should move along the city’s left side until they reach a south-east corner next to a New-U station. They should then enter the subway on the opposite side.
3 Burning Choppa Shotgun
The Borderlands games are no strangers to homages to popular films, and Borderlands 3 does this with a number of films, including The Lord of the Rings. Despite its name, the Burning Choppa Shotgun is actually a weapon inspired by Middle Earth. It shoots bullets that come out in waves and resemble the fire-whip the Balrog used in Fellowship of the Ring.
To get the gun, players have to travel to a location known as ‘Konrad’s Hold’ in Pandora. They can choose a mission called ‘The Demon in the Dark’, which can be seen on the map with a yellow exclamation mark. Because of the difficulty of this mission’s boss fight, it is recommended that only players above Level 45 play it.
2 Smart G.U.N. XXL
Guns in Borderlands 3 don’t get much smarter than the Smart G.U.N. XXL. This is a Legendary submachine gun made by Tediore that the player is forced to throw when they want to reload it. The gun then forms turrets that automatically track and attack enemies. The turrets themselves resemble Gigamind Spiders.
To obtain Smart G.U.N. XXL, the player should go to the coffee shop at the Meridian Metroplex, and follow the path leading to Gigamind. They should then defeat Gigamind and, if the gun doesn’t drop, exit the game without saving and repeat the steps.
1 Gettleburger
Borderlands 3 has plenty of ridiculous guns, but the Gettleburger stands out even among them. This is a rocket launcher with an animated burger skin that shoots burgers instead of rockets. The burgers still deal plenty of damage. And when the burgers explode, text shows up reading, “Dayum, Dayum! DAYUM!”
Players can obtain this gun early on in the game by finishing a few side quests once they have unlocked Promethea. These side missions can be lengthy, particularly the second one, which involves clearing multiple waves of enemies. But the reward is completely worth it.
