The superhero genre has become one of the most famous, most enjoyable, and most profitable forms of entertainment in the past decade. Billions have been spent to create superhero films and games and billions have been earned in return. Spider-Man: Miles Morales is the latest one to come into the fold, and like many before it, it has been received with critical acclaim.

Many of the things in this game would not have been possible if it weren’t for the success of the comics. This game most certainly pays homage to that as it references things in the comics quite often. Many of the things in this game also make more sense if you’ve read a Spider-Man comic book or two.

10 Miles’ Powers

Miles Morales is New York’s second spider-powered superhero. As a Spider-Man hero and Peter’s protégé, he presents many of the Spider-Man powers we all know at this point. Stick on walls, swing using webs, spider-sense, and more. However, Miles Morales also has a few powers Peter does not.

Miles Morales is capable of harnessing electricity from his body and even turn invisible at will. In the game, the reason for this wasn’t explained thoroughly. In the comics, it is revealed that the reason he has these powers and Peter does not is that the spider that bit him was genetically engineered differently from Peter’s.

9 Danika Hart

Danika Hart is a new podcaster that is slowly becoming one of the most popular ones in New York. She most certainly caught the attention of J. Jonah Jameson, even going as far as engaging her in a debate on live radio. She also assists Miles from time to time after Ganke Lee reached out to her.

Danika Hart is not a character exclusive in this game. She actually made her debut in the comics, also having close ties with Miles Morales. She also later dated Ganke Lee.

8 J. Jonah Jameson

J. Jonah Jameson. You either dislike him, or you love him. More people lean on the latter for his humorous approach towards his disdain for Spider-Man. Why does he hate Spider-Man, though? Has the wall-crawler wronged him in any way? Is he secretly a supervillain bent on destroying Spider-Man’s reputation?

In actuality, Spider-Man has not really wronged him in any way. In the comics, his very first appearance, in fact, he explained that he dislikes Spider-Man because his actions are dangerous and he’s afraid that children might try to emulate him and hurt themselves. He also dislikes the fact that Spider-Man acts outside the confines of the law. He believes people should worship more traditional heroes, like his son who is an astronaut.

7 Ganke Lee, The Confidante

Ganke Lee is Miles Morales’ best friend. He also acts as Spider-Man’s tech and intel guy on multiple occasions. Ganke seems like a very intelligent individual and he is more than happy lending his mind and skills to help Miles Morales make New York a safer place to live in.

Ganke’s association with Miles’ superhero life takes its roots from the comics. It was Ganke who first recognized Miles’ powers and its similarities with the original Spider-Man. He has also constantly provided him with assistance in any way he can, similar in the game.

6 Symkaria

Peter Parker’s absence in this game is attributed to his departure to Symkaria to act as Mary Jane’s official photographer as she writes a story on the city’s ongoing civil war. In the previous game’s DLC, it was revealed that Silver Sable hailed from Symkaria and many of the events there tied to her association with her homeland.

Symkaria has a long history and significance in the Marvel universe. This place is the home of the Wild Pack, a team of outlaws started by Silver Sable’s father. After her father’s passing, Silver Sable herself led the team. They’ve had various run-ins with Spider-Man but has also worked with him from time to time.

5 Rhino’s Suit

Rhino is one of the main supervillains you fight in this game. You first fought him in the previous Spider-Man game as Peter, hid from him as Miles, and now you finally get to knock him out. During your final encounter with the Rhino, he is wearing a different set of armor that makes him impervious to Miles’ venom power, which is the cause of his prior defeat. However, this suit isn’t really a replacement, it’s just a different layer.

People who read the comics know that Alexei, the man underneath the armor, and the armor itself are one. Rhino’s suit is embedded in his skin as a result of an experimental procedure. Therefore, he can never take off that suit.

4 Aaron Davis As Prowler

Aaron Davis, Miles’ uncle, has a life that makes him a natural enemy of a superhero like his nephew. Aaron Davis was a burglar and he often worked alongside his brother Jefferson Davis before he eventually let go of that life after his son Miles was born. Aaron was ultimately left to do this life alone and became the villain known as Prowler.

Aaron and Jefferson’s relationship are explained via the Sound Samples side mission, but it is better explored in the comics. Jefferson Davis essentially became Aaron’s enemy after he became a police officer and Aaron became Prowler. Later on, Prowler was responsible for turning Miles into a superhero as it was he who accidentally carried the spider that ended up giving Miles his powers.

3 Roxxon

Roxxon is a company that acted in a similar manner with Oscorp story-wise. A corporation that does evil deeds for the sake of profit and a man as the face of the company which the characters can hate.

In the comics, Roxxon wasn’t always an energy corporation. It used to be an oil company before it became an energy and power corporation. Simon Krieger wasn’t just the head of research and development, he was the vice-president of the entire company. Roxxon has always been associated with villainy, though. They’ve always employed the most heinous villains to further their agendas that end up costing the lives of ordinary, innocent citizens.

2 Two Spider-Men In New York

There used to be one friendly neighborhood Spider-Man in New York, now the city has two. Peter Parker and Miles Morales, a city big enough to merit two superpowered protectors.

As we all know by now because of the comics and the successful Into The Spiderverse film, Miles Morales only became Spider-Man after the death of Peter Parker in his universe. Later on, however, in an odd multiverse event, Miles Morales’ universe merged with the main 616 universe, uniting Miles Morales and Peter Parker once again as the Spider-Men of New York City.

1 The Post Credit Scene

The post-credit scenes of both the previous Spider-Man game and the new one featuring Miles Morales may seem odd to many people, mainly because Harry Osborn is not known to be associated with the Venom symbiote.

This storyline is pulled directly from the Ultimate Spider-Man series, where Harry Osborn becomes Venom after being exposed to the symbiote. In this game, Norman uses it to treat Harry. Whether this will make him a villain or not is yet to be seen.
