The Witcher 3 is a vast and expansive game set in an intricate and detailed world. CD Projekt Red meticulously crafted a world and characters that feel true to life even though they exist in a  fantasy setting. Since there are many hidden details throughout the game, it might take gamers a couple of playthroughs to catch every little thing.

And, just like any good story, The Witcher 3’s plot is full of foreshadowing that only players who are on their second, third, or fourth playthroughs will catch.

10 Uma Is Avallac’h

The main goal for the first two-thirds of The Witcher 3 is to find Ciri. Repeatedly throughout the game, Geralt is told that Ciri is traveling with a mysterious elf. Before discovering Ciri is in the Isle of Mists, Geralt finds a little man named Uma walking around Crow’s Perch.

Uma’s identity is a mystery throughout the player’s first playthrough. However, once it is revealed that Uma is actually Avallac’h, Ciri’s elf companion, under a horrific spell, players will remember Uma’s true identity on subsequent playthroughs.

9 The Mattress

In The Witcher 2, Geralt’s amnesia leads him to pursue a romantic relationship with Triss Merigold, forgetting about his lover, Yennefer. Geralt’s memories are restored in The Witcher 3, which means he can begin to rekindle his relationship with Yennefer. Or not.

If players don’t attempt to fix Geralt and Yennefer’s relationship, the sorceress will take out her anger on Geralt. When she first arrives at Kaer Morhen, she throws out the mattress that Geralt and Triss presumably slept on. Players can look for the mattress in the main courtyard before visiting her.

8 Eredin Is A Weak Villain

The Witcher 3 has a strong cast of villains. From the Crones of Crookback Bog to Whoreson Junior and Emperor Emhyr to King Radovid V, Geralt and friends go up against strong and intimidating foes.

So, it is surprising when players go up against Eredin, the main antagonist, and he isn’t as intimidating and even one-dimensional compared to the lesser villains. This is a disappointment considering up until that point, the game kept introducing villains that were more compelling than the last. Even Imlerith, a Wild Hunt general, had more personality and better boss fight than the King of the Wild Hunt.

7 The Road To Ciri Is Painstakingly Long

Throughout the game series, fans waited to meet Yennefer as she was referred to by characters like Triss, Dandelion, and Zoltan. Within the first two hours of The Witcher 3, players get to see Geralt and Yennefer reunite. While the game wastes no time with Yen’s introduction, the game gives players a new objective with finding Ciri.

It takes a little over half the game to reunite with Ciri, and gamers who already played through the game once will become impatient as moments with Geralt and Ciri are some of the best in the series. Gamers who are replaying the game will be reminded how painstakingly long the journey to Ciri is.

6 Visiting The Tree Spirit Before The Crones Quest

One of the most infamous questlines in The Witcher 3 is the Crones storyline. Toward the end of this questline, the Crones tells Geralt he needs to kill their mother, a tree spirit. Players can choose to free it, but it affects the outcome of the Bloody Baron quest in a significant way.

If players kill the tree spirit, the Crones will kill the orphans of Crookback Bog, and the Baron and Anna will live. However, if players free the spirit, the Crones will curse Anna, and she and the Baron both die. However, there is a secret outcome if players visit the spirit before the Crones questline. Geralt can free the spirit before talking to the Crones, which will kill the orphans, but the Baron and Anna both live.

5 Romance In Novigrad

Some players may not explore the rich and vast world of The Witcher 3 on their first run-through, which will make them miss some of the finer details in the game. One of these details is a bench just outside Novigrad that overlooks the entire city.

What is so special about this bench? If players visit it any given time throughout their playthrough, they’ll notice NPCs, usually men and women, on dates. They usually sit and cuddle, or the man will do something to impress the woman. This is a cute little addition to the game’s world that adds immersion.

4 Sign Finger Movements

One of Geralt’s most useful weapons throughout the series is his spells, also known as signs. Whether it is mind control, a fire blast or a powerful magical shield, signs and witchers go hand in hand.

While these signs are taken straight from the novels the games are based on, CD Projekt Red went the extra mile to add detail. If players examine Geralt’s hand as he is casting a sign, they’ll notice different animations for each sign. Now that is attention to detail!

3 Potions And Toxicity

There are many mechanics in The Witcher 3 that new players might’ve glossed over during their first playthrough. One of these mechanics is the use of alchemy and potions. New players might use them at first but then forget about them as they progress through the game.

However, on subsequent playthroughs, players might see more value in potions as it helps during monster encounters. They need to be careful as consuming too many potions will make Geralt’s face pop due to the high toxicity in the potions.

2 Aldert Geert

One of the most beloved features in The Witcher 3 is the popular mini-game, Gwent. CD Projekt Red even made a spin-off game due to its popularity. While the game is addicting, some players might forget the NPC that taught them how to play.

While getting information about Yennefer, Geralt talks to Aldert Geert, who also teaches the witcher how to play Gwent. While Aldert seems like a nice guy, he meets a terrible demise, as players might find the poor scholar hanging from the Hanged Man’s Tree in Velen later in the game.

1 Saving Tomira

Early in the game, players will come across an herbalist named Tomira while hunting a griffin. She will give Geralt a gift if players choose to help someone who the beast attacked. While she is thankful toward Geralt, she has a target on her back for the entire game.

Radovid commands his witch hunters to hunt mages, herbalists, and alchemists throughout the game. If players do not assassinate Radovid and let Redania win the war, they will hunt down Tomira. Players can save her from the witch hunters if they revisit White Orchard after completing the main quest.
