Nearly six years ago The Sims 4 was released and reimagined a lot of aspects of the game franchise. For example, it introduced the wildly more interactive Create-A-Sim, an easier Build Mode experience, and a step in the right direction towards the representation of the LGBTQ+ community.

However, there are still things that The Sims 4 has yet to bring to the table that have left fans of the older games in the series dissatisfied. There are players out there that still have hope that certain things will be brought to The Sims 4 before they see the end of it and a shift to the next main game in the series.

10 Bunk Beds (Sims 3 & Sims Mobile)

Bunk beds might seem like a novel thing to ask for, but it is one of the most requested additions. Bunk beds came with Generations in The Sims 3 and became both an item of nostalgia and a good way to save space for Sims with large families or small houses. Many were hoping the release of Tiny Living would see Bunk Beds make a return to the series, but instead Murphy Beds were chosen. The Sims Mobile, however, got functional bunk beds added as an event prize last month, and Sims 4 players only hope that it’s a sign of things to come for them.

9 More Interactive Toddler Gameplay (Sims 2 & 3)

It upset many players that the Toddler life state wasn’t included in the Base Game. Toddlers had been a staple for the series since The Sims 2 and many felt that the game was missing a good chunk of gameplay because of their absence.

Toddlers were added in a patch back in 2017, but in comparison to their Sims 2 and Sims 3 counterparts, playing with them isn’t as interactive. While Toddlers age up without the need for things like cribs, bottles, swing sets, and can already walk, many players miss those gameplay aspects.

8 CAS Color Wheel (Sims 3)

The Color Wheel was a tool that was used in the Sims 3 for both CAS and the in-game Create-a-Style. Players were upset to see it not included in The Sims 4 as it forced a limited number of color options when it came to customizing their Sims and the way they decorated their Sims’ homes. Some players have also seen the Color Wheel as an opportunity to help solve the issue of skin tone representation that The Sims 4 has been criticized for. With the inclusion of a Color Wheel for pet coats that came with Cats & Dogs, some players were disappointed that it was only pets.

7 Opacity Slider (Sims 3)

The option to change the Opacity of a Sims’s makeup was made available in The Sims 3 with Ambitions. It’s been a feature that many Sims 4 players wished had made a return to make the makeup options given in The Sims 4 more versatility, without the use of Custom Content or Mods.

With an opacity slider, it was possible to make a lot of different makeup work with a variety of different skin tones and the personal make-up style preference of each player.

6 Chemistry (Sims 2)

In The Sims 4, it’s pretty easy for Sims to romance one another. Some players like that, while others want an attraction system similar to what the Sims 2 had. In The Sims 2 Chemistry greatly affected the romance relationship between Sims. It used things like personality, aspirations, zodiac signs and turn-ons, and turn-offs to give different levels of chemistry between two Sims. Chemistry didn’t make it impossible for Sims to romance any other Sim, but it did affect the difficulty of forming a romantic relationship making it more challenging, and more entertaining for some players.

5 More Pregnancy/Baby Gameplay (Sims FreePlay)

Baby Showers are a social event that many players would love to have. There are mods like the Baby Shower Custom Event created by Brittpinkiesims, that gives that type of gameplay, but not everyone plays with mods. The Sims FreePlay added the ability to have a baby shower back in 2018 with their Pregnancy Story update.

The update added a lot of other things that Sims 4 players had requested as well, like maternity clothing, ultrasounds, setting up a nursery, social interactions with a doctor to talk about your Sim’s pregnancy, and a Baby Shower social event.

4 Modeling Career (Sims Mobile)

The Sims community was pretty vocal on how they felt about the Moschino Stuff Pack, though there were more than a few that hoped a pack about high fashion would include a modeling career, something that many fans have been asking for. Moschino Stuff did bring a Freelance Fashion Photography Career and new items and camera controls to help take amazing photos, but no modeling career. However, The Sims Mobile received an update for a Sweet Treat Showdown Event, which unlocked the Modeling Career upon completing it.

3 Fears (Sims 2)

The Sims 4 covers the wants and desires that Sims can have through their life with Whims and Aspirations fairly well. However, a lot of players miss the Fears aspect that came with The Sims 2. Fears were, in simple terms, the flip side of the things that would make Sims happy. Fears in The Sims 2 took away Aspiration points gained by fulfilled wants and not only made gameplay a little more challenging, but it gave Sims a more robust personality.

2 Cars (Sims 2 & Sims 3)

In The Sims 4, Sims can walk and ( with Discover University and Eco Lifestyle) can ride bikes to get where they need to go. Aside from that travel takes place behind a loading screen and while for some it makes traveling to different worlds faster, many miss the inclusion of cars as a mode of transportation. It also doesn’t help that cars do exist in the Sims 4 world as ambient decoration, but Sims can’t own one. In The Sims 2 and 3 cars functioned as both a mode of transportation and as a hobby object as you can purchase a junk car for Sims to work on and restore.

1 Simple Sim Interactions (Sims 2 & 3)

Sometimes it’s the little things in life that make the difference, and that could be said for Sims’ lives as well. The Sims 4 brings new things and new ways to play to the popular life simulator, but along the way, it’s lost a lot of simple and charming Sim interactions. Sims could actually dance together, even kids could dance with their parents using a cute animation of dancing on their feet. Sims could snuggle up in bed together, and even have pillow fights. In comparison to other games, Sims 4 Sim interactions are pretty stiff.
