When it first released back in 2018, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey led the series in a new direction by pushing its RPG aspects to the limit. Ubisoft gave players the choice to play as either a male or female character, presented a story with branching decisions and the option to romance whoever the player wanted.

Over the course of the two years since its release, players have found a variety of things that someone can do in the game. Whether that be taking advantage of an exploit or discovering something the game does not reveal intentionally, here are things within Odyssey that only pros know to do.

10 Board A Ship To Stop Others From Attacking

In the midst of an intense naval battle with multiple ships, one might find themselves in desperate need of health for their ship. If the player boards a ship while in conflict with other ships, those ships will stop attacking the player.

While it may not be realistic, it is fair since it does not overwhelm the player with worrying about boarding and protecting their ship. Plus boarding restores more health than just destroying or ramming the opposing ship so it is definitely a must to stay in the fight.

9 Abilities Besides Second Wind Can Restore Health In Combat

While the second wind does guarantee health, other abilities such as the spartan kick can restore a small amount of health in order to keep the player in a battle longer should they be use in combat.

Since the main character is a Spartan, it makes sense from a lore standpoint as well since a Spartan never backs down even if the odds are against them. Hopefully to turn things around in a desperate last stand or go down fighting.

8 Use Spartan Kick If Up Against A Powerful Enemy

Speaking of the Spartan kick, it is basically the players ace up the sleeve (or leg) when dealing with an enemy stronger than them. While it is not recommended to fight an enemy at a higher level than the player’s, if they have to, they should have the spartan kick ability equipped and upgraded.

Not only does the ability casus a ton of damage, it can also stun the enemy momentarily for the player to get a kick in. It can also knock off enemies from places with high altitude like a cliff to cause massive damage making the Eagle Bearer quite powerful. It is a must for anybody, even if the ability is primarily a warrior ability.

7 Change Time Of Day To Affect Patrols And Access Routes

The player has the ability to change the time of by holding the touchpad on PS4 or change view on Xbox. While it may seem like it only has a purpose of achieving a certain quest objective it does have an effect on NPCs, most useful with guards.

Bases have less guards in them at night since a good amount of them are sleeping, unless the base is on high alert. This means the player can sneak past and/or kill them more easily while using the darkness of night to their advantage.

6 Time Dodges Perfectly To Trigger A Perfect Dodge

While just simply dodging and parrying is effective to taking down an enemy, waiting until the last possible moment will trigger a perfect dodge.

Unlike a regular dodge, a perfect dodge will slow time down for the player. This gives them time they can use to heal themselves or get in as many quick hits as possible. Pay close attention to the enemies glow when they attack and time it just right to dodge like the pros.

5 Upgrade Gear To Make Most Out Of Playstyle

With the loot system in Odyssey, there is plenty of gear that surpasses what they player currently has equipped. But what if the new gear has different bonuses that do not favor a player’s preferred playstyle?

The player can visit any blacksmith in the game to upgrade their gear to match the player’s current level. It does cost a hefty amount of drachmae and crafting materials, but it is worth it since the bonuses are upgraded as well.

4 Dismantle Gear To Get Crafting Materials Quicker

Crafting materials are the bread and butter of Odyssey needed to upgrade gear (as previously stated) and upgrade the Adrestia. While materials can be acquired in the world, it can take awhile to farm the necessary amount. A way to cut down on that time though is to dismantle any unused gear.

Common to epic gear can be dismantled should the player find the need to. Common will provide the least amount of crafting materials while epic gear will provide more. So it may be a good idea to not sell any old gear should one need any crafting materials.

3 Make Use Of Engravings

Whenever a player levels up or complete a quest, they might notice that they have unlocked an engraving. These are upgrades that can be added to gear to boost a certain skill such as adding more assassination damage or giving an enemy flame damage.

Most might have ignored them since they may not seem like much at face value. But stick to one type of engraving and that three percent buff can become a 30 percent buff. This is a huge gamechanger when sticking to a certain type of build.

2 Hit A Ship’s Weak Point Whenever Possible

Ever noticed a strange orange glow appear on a ship while battling one? If the player sees one, it is best if the player were to attack this as soon as possible since this is a weak point.

Hitting a ship with this will drain its health massively and create a satisfying explosion when it is destroyed. This is a must when dealing with legendary ships and the ships of the Gods of the Aegean Sea section of the Cult of Kosmos.

1 Photo Mode Has A Use In Combat

While photo mode in Odyssey was meant for players to capture their best moments for others to see, it does have a practical use when applied correctly, in this case in combat.

Clicking the left and right sticks will trigger photo mode, enabling the player to see any enemies outside of their field of view and to get an idea of where they are coming from. It can also be used to spot a potential escape path, enabling the player to do some planning on the fly.
