Godfall has released on the PS5 and PC and, while it may be taxing on the latter, it serves as a technological wonder to behold. Offering some of the best graphics to ever grace consoles, it serves as a promising start to the most recent generation of video games.
This timed console exclusive offers an in-depth combat system that is easy to learn but takes practice to master. With so many different types of abilities and combos to learn, the process can be a bit overwhelming. As there are so many things to take in, players may need assistance if they aim to become Aperion combat professionals. Here are a few key skills integral to mastering the flow of combat in this looter-slasher.
10 Polarity Attacks
One technique unique to Godfall, Polarity Swap, increases the amount of damage that enemies take. Players can recognize polarity attacks by their blue glow, often illuminating the screen. Polarity Swaps enable Aperions to charge their second weapon while fighting with the first and vice versa.
When the weapon indicator in the corner of the screen glows blue, the weapon is charged. Swapping to the stored weapon will activate this move, sending out a powerful shockwave that deals heavy damage to enemies while stunning them.
9 Rampage
When players continuously deal damage to enemies without being hit, they enter a Rampage. In Rampage, attacks deal increased damage for a limited amount of time, so long as they avoid taking damage. Skilled warriors will need to use this technique to make quick work of adversaries and mitigate encounter time.
Knowing how to handle and evade enemy attacks is key to this ability. The beautiful visuals of Godfall will aid with color-coded cues, informing players which attacks can be parried, blocked, and avoided.
8 Siphon Health
For every life on the overworld in Godfall, players are given three healing crystals. Once these are used, players will either have to restock by opening chests, killing enemies, or respawning after death. Those who want to maximize their regenerative capabilities will want to invest in the Siphon skill.
By holding L2 and Square, Aperions will drain the health from enemies within range. Upgrading this skill will expedite the process, allowing users to heal as quickly as possible will ensuring lurking enemies won’t land attacks.
7 Augment Armor
Throughout the Godfall experience, players are rewarded with gear, armor, and augments that improve their Valorplates. While armor is more obvious to upgrade, as it can be seen each time the menu is opened, Augments can be overlooked.
Swapping from the Gear Tab to the Augments tab opens a menu with several slots that can be slotted for passive character upgrades. Each Augment uses a specific amount of power, and with only 100 power available at any given time, players will have to mix and match pieces to create the build that fits them. As with any loot in Godfall, these slotted upgrades are awarded regularly.
6 Shield Priming
Mastering the use of the shield in Godfall is just as important and handling the main weapon. While it can be used to defend, it is equally effective as an offensive tool. The developers of Godfall pride themselves on the combat balance of the game and integrated a skill that encourages players to perform parries and block regularly.
This skill is shield priming, and successfully implementing this technique in battle will result in a parry that reflects damage back at enemies instead of just negating it. At higher levels, the primed shield can be thrown and deal inflict increased injury on opponents.
5 Archon Fury
The special abilities of the Aperion knights are manifested in their Archon Fury Activations. Each Valorplate contains a unique ability that can be used when by pressing the L3 and R3 when the charge is filled. Choosing the ability that is best suited for each situation can sway a fight entirely, so inspecting what each armor can do is important.
Players will be prompted when an Archon Fury charge is ready but should take care to remember that death will empty the Archon Fury meter. Hoarding these abilities can be risky, so using them when they are available is preferable in a tough fight.
4 Timed Attacks
Rapidly hitting enemies by button mashing is an option in Godfall, but attacking with precision and planning will yield much better results. One ability that capitalizes on this idea is the Timed Attack. After initiating an attack, waiting until the Valorplate flashes will enable a unique and powerful follow-up strike.
When this ability is upgraded, a heavy follow up attack can be enacted as well, one that cannot be blocked by enemies. When used correctly, these techniques can be intertwined to deal consistent damage. PS5 players will have haptic feedback that sends vibrations to help make these timing windows.
3 Weapon Techniques
Every weapon in Godfall harbors two unique weapon techniques. Northern Weapon Techniques are enacted by holding L2 and pressing R1 after Valorplates turn red signifying a full charge. These abilities are often quick and deal with shatter damage to enemies.
Southern Weapon Techniques are performed by holding L2 and press R2 when the same armor prompt appears. Unlike their northern counterparts, these abilities are slower and prioritize heavy-hitting attacks that ignite shatter damage. Using regular attacks will help build the gauges for these techniques.
2 Soul Shatter
One important mechanic players will need to take note of is Soulshattering. Light attacks build a shatter gauge in addition to damaging enemies. This bar is highlighted in white, overshadowing the red health meter on adversaries. A heavy attack will then use that meter to deliver Soulshatter damage.
Should the shatter meter overtake an enemy’s remaining health, they will then be shattered by a heavy attack. With Ray Tracing, enemies will illuminate the glossy corridors and dark caverns they inhabit, dealing explosive damage to others in their vicinity.
1 Weak Point Attacks
Enemies in Godfall are more vulnerable in some places than others. Many opponents in the game exhibit areas where they will take increased damage. To make quick work of multiple monsters, the best players will find and target these weak points in crowds.
Weak points can be identified by a glowing blue on every. When attacking these spots, players can mix in other skills, such as Northern Weapon Techniques and Southern Weapon Techniques, to further increase their DPS.
