When playing Crystal Dynamics’ Marvel’s Avengers, one of the core complaints about the game is its combat and leveling systems. Some people claim that the combat is simplistic, but there’s actually a lot of depth in the game’s systems and the combos that can be done.

As for the RPG systems, while there are a bunch of elements to it that can feel like they drag the game down, that’s mostly because they’re poorly explained. They still add to what’s possible in the game and improve the experience overall. People who have dumped dozens of hours into this game have figured out quite a bit about what’s possible.

10 HOW TO USE UNIBEAM

This is something that most players coming into the game will immediately be tripped up by. The Unibeam technique that’s one of Iron Man’s heroic abilities that comes with a cool down seems like it’s actually not that good. But most players playing him are simply pressing the button and letting go, resulting in a brief blast. Holding down can actually lengthen the attack by several seconds.

9 HOW TO POWER LEVEL

Most players see the massive skill tree and become daunted, as the main game doesn’t have enough content to get everyone to the max of level 50 for the game’s other storyline. But pro players are already aware of the neat ways players can power level their characters. For instance, the HARM Rooms are always good for at least one or two levels.

8 MAKING THE BEST BUILDS

There’s a ton of variety in Marvel’s Avengers for every playable character. No two characters play the same, but it helps even more for every character to find their own niche and stick to it.

The gear isn’t just to make numbers go up, but rather certain pieces of gear can inflict status elements like cryo or gravitron, which makes an enemy either freeze in place or float in the air.

7 UNLIMITED BROOKLYN BRAWLER

An interesting thing about Captain America is his Brooklyn Brawler ability. This ability can actually be extended almost indefinitely with the right build unlocked. With CQC Specialist, Brooklyn Brawler allows takedowns on enemies with low health. Then the skill Adrenaline Rush allows takedowns to extend Brooklyn Brawler’s length by three seconds. Lastly, Heroic Takedown Mastery makes takedowns create more heroic orbs. This means cooldowns for Captain America’s heroic abilities is drastically shortened.

6 DOING PROPER COMBOS

Casual players will fall for the belief that this game is a simple button masher, and pressing light attack or heavy attack will get through every encounter with no problem. While this ignores the numerous enemies with shields, it also ignores the fact that the game’s battle system is much deeper than they’re giving it credit. There’s plenty of combo tutorials that point out just how many awesome combos can be done in the game, making it easier to play.

5 INFINITE ROCKET IRON MAN

Iron Man can seem underpowered when players start the game, which is why the first thing all players suggest is unlocking the character’s rockets. By swapping weapons with the D-Pad, repulsors can be swapped for lasers as well as rockets. Rockets do an incredible amount of damage but drain the intrinsic meter rapidly. However, by using the skill Overcharge Duration Boost, combined with Reactive Generator which adds intrinsic energy from parrying, Iron Man unlocks some interesting abilities.

Basically, by using Iron Man’s energy barrier, the player can parry while behind the energy barrier, overcharging their intrinsic energy and allowing rockets to be fired until the Supercharge status wears off. This will likely be fixed later on, but for now, this is a smart way to make Iron Man one of the more dangerous people on the field.  At least, until they decide to patch it out.

4 RAPIDLY STUNNING ENEMIES

For most players, stunning enemies happens largely on accident. It happens, they inflict the takedown and move on. But this is actually possible to do with much more consistency. Each enemy has a stun meter that fills based on breaking their guard and alternating between light and heavy combos. This is crucial at higher levels of play because the enemies are easily able to inflict so much damage if the player isn’t paying attention.

3 THE VEIL OF SHADOWS

Black Widow’s support heroic ability, Veil of Shadows, turns her invisible. This typically only lasts for a few seconds, but there’s a way to make her much more dangerous than that. By using her ability Unseen Fate, enemies become more susceptible to takedowns when they have low health. Combined with Night Terror, Veil of Shadows goes up by another three seconds, along with other abilities that allow takedowns to extend the time by an additional 1.2 second, Widow can remain invisible almost indefinitely.

2 HOW TO POWER LEVEL TO 150

Going loot hunting can’t get players to the maximum cap of the game alone. No matter what missions the player takes on, they won’t go pass 130 because that’s the highest level gear the game drops. Upgrading past that will require players to upgrade the loot themselves to get legendary loot up to the max level of 140. But there’s a level beyond where players can level up the artifact they have which boosts the player’s power level by another 10. This will require grinding Polychoron and is the only way to get the player’s character up to the hard cap of 150 Power.

1 HOW TO CHEESE VILLAINS

Gear might not matter for looks, but it definitely matters for stats. The right gear can be crucial and the difference between beating an enemy and getting stomped out. But only pro players know that even boss monsters are weak to the status effects that gear inflicts. It’s possible to shrink even Taskmaster into a miniature version of himself with the Pym Particle build, making it much easier to beat that villain.
