Bugsnax is a fun game that has an incredibly dark ending. What seemed like a cheerful island and an easy reporting job soon turned into a true nightmare. From a missing leader to carnivorous parasites, this cheery game caught gamers off guard with its dark undertones. Most players noticed things weren’t quite right at the very beginning when their Grumpuses had an “allergic” reaction to the strange creatures on the island.
From there, it was a slow downward spiral into the secret behind the island and the reality that the bugsnax are nothing more than parasitic creatures only concerned with devouring everything around them.
10 How Did They Change Back?
For those who watched the films involving Eggabell and Elizabert, they know that Eggabell ended up consuming a large amount of Bugsnax. In fact, her ears were turned into cinnamon rolls from all of her excess snacking, so why does she look so normal when players find her.
It’s also worth noting that no one else looks like they have eaten when you reach the island, yet they say that they are craving specific creatures.
9 Why Is The Island So Close?
When games finally beat the game and escape back to the city, they look off from the shore to see the island. What looks to be a major city is literally right in front of them, meaning that the island was in boating distance literally the whole time the story was going on.
This raises tons of questions both about the existence of bugsnax and the inhabitant’s incompetence.
8 Rafts Are a Thing
While it wouldn’t have been much fun, the Grumpus could have built rafts to escape the island if they tried. Their boat was wrecked, so why didn’t they try to prepare any emergency means to leave the island if need be. By the look of the island at the end of the game, they should have been able to see the mainland.
It shouldn’t have been that big of a problem to have gotten back to civilization if they truly needed to.
7 Who Selected Beffica?
Maybe the reason that there were no actual survivalist preparations was due to the fact that the Grumpuses taken on the expedition were somewhat strange. While ranchers, farmers, and scientists are completely understandable, just how did Beffica make the cut to be on a possibly dangerous expedition.
There is also the fact that both a pop star and a guru were taken along to the island without having any real survival skills.
6 No Other Journalist?
It’s a bit strange that literally, no other journalist tried to make their way to this island. It brings up several questions about Elizabert and the news consumption habits of the Bugsnax world. No other tabloid journalist wanted to go check out this strange expedition project.
Even if they had only found a few new animals on the island, it would have still been a worthwhile reporting point.
5 Was Elizabert Famous?
From the narrative of the game, players can gather that Elizabert was probably a bit famous. Even if she was considered a bit of a con artist like some small bits of info where concerned, why wouldn’t some other news outlets be interested in discrediting her or trying to find the truth behind her newest expedition?
It was public knowledge that she was trying to gather a crew together from what players learned about the other Grumpuses deciding to travel to the island.
4 How Did Bugsnax Survive?
Most living creatures new nutrients to survive, which leads players to wonder just how these parasites existed for all these years without feeding. Did they prey on animals that came on to the island, or maybe they just got better at hiding bones so the island would look like it hadn’t been touched in centuries?
The truth about the Bugsnax and how they continued to persist for such long periods of time makes gamers truly wonder about the strange creatures.
3 Were There Other Explorers?
Another big question comes from the fact that the island never seemed to have other explorers visit it. There was a recent skeleton located on a mountain, but otherwise, there seemed to be no traces of any Grumpuses trying to investigate the island, which seems a bit strange for a modernized world.
From just the two scientists seen in the game, it’s very apparent that there is a curious scientific community in the world looking to study new creatures.
2 Why Didn’t They Just Attack?
The bugsnax themselves are just as confusing as the Grumpuses. If they are parasites and are quite large in number as seen from all the ones wandering around the island, then why didn’t they simply attack the village. The snaks must have noticed that the Grumpsus slept, so why not just consume their bodies then?
It makes very little sense that the Grumpus could literally build a whole town on the island without even one being fully consumed by the bugsnaks.
1 Wasn’t Everything Bugsnax?
Even stranger, wasn’t it stated that the whole island was a bugsnak? If so, then that means everything from the ground to possibly the wood they made their homes from would have been a parasite. If this was true, then the adventurers should have been consumed within a few days of arriving on the island.
It’s almost as if the Bugsnax like to tease their prey before devouring them, which makes little sense going on how rare it seems the parasites actually get to eat a full meal.
