Just Cause 4 is a crazy, over-the-top, open-world action game where you play as Rico. It’s a massive sandbox for you to explore, grapple, fly, drive, and cause a ruckus on. Rico has such a powerful arsenal of tools at his disposal that can help you feel in control at all times.

Because this is such a massive gaming experience, new players can often get overwhelmed by the sheer amount of content and diversity on display. There is the main story, side missions, and extra hidden goodies for you to find. When starting out a new game, there are some things to keep in mind in order to set yourself up for success as the adventure unfolds.

10 There’s No Option To Adjust The Gamma

So, something like not being able to adjust the gamma (brightness) in a game doesn’t sound all that important. This game has a plethora of environments with some of them, such as the starting tundra area, being quite dark overall. Depending on your TV settings, this can make seeing certain enemies difficult.

New players should be aware that you can’t adjust the gamma in Just Cause 4. If you are having trouble seeing certain enemies or locations, try adjusting your TV settings when playing this game. While not a big issue overall, it’s something to keep in mind.

9 Always Shoot The Red And White Items

Just Cause 4 is all about causing as much mayhem and damage as possible. The reason for this is to rack up a massive monetary penalty to the enemy and causing their organizational structure across the map to destabilize over the course of the game.

As Rico traverses the map, he will come across red and white environmental objects all over the place such as antennas, explosive canisters, and generators. You should make sure to take the time to destroy these objects to weaken the enemy’s position.

8 You Can Parachute Off Any High Ledge

One of the most unique and fun features of any open-world game is the ability to freely explore until your heart’s content. Just Cause 4 gives you a handy parachute that can be used when jumping off of almost any high ledge. This will not only ensure a safe landing for Rico but will let him get to out-of-reach locations.

Even better, when combing the parachute with the grapple, Rico can gain momentum to gain distance more quickly. This series has always been known for its momentum and traversal abilities but new players might not realize just how handy the parachute can be when at a high-up location.

7 You Can Grapple Almost Any Point

The grapple gun that Rico has with him at all times might just be the best part of Just Cause 4. While many games opt to just let their players grapple at very specific scripted moments, Just Cause 4 lets you grapple almost anywhere.

This grapple tool has incredible range and can let Rico quickly traverse up or around mountains, pipelines, buildings, and the like. It’s such a handy tool that you will become very familiar with over the course of your adventure. Make sure to try it out anywhere you can in order to learn how to use it.

6 Keep An Eye Out For Shiny Weapon Cases

Just Cause 4 truly is all about explosive action and anarchy. Rico does start off the game with a handy dandy assault rifle which is sure to pack a punch, but scattered around the game world are shiny weapon cases. These weapon cases stick out nicely but can often be hidden away in specific map locations.

Make sure to keep an eye out for these while exploring every nook and cranny of the game world. These weapon cases might have a shotgun, or a grenade launcher, or even an RPG. The weapons in this game are as diverse as the landscapes so be sure to try out each new one you stumble across.

5 Don’t Worry, Your Health Recharges

Okay so it might not make sense in real-life to simply hide behind some cover when you get injured for the wounds to just magically heal, but in many video games, that’s how it works. Just Cause 4 is no different. Rico will take an inhuman amount of damage from fire, to explosions, to bullet wounds, but no matter what comes his way, he can simply duck behind cover and heal.

While this might not be logical in any sense, it’s great for a video game, especially one with so much action and carnage. So if the red around the screen is getting more intense (signifying more damage), simply hide and wait for your health to get back to normal.

4 There Is An Alternative Weapon Fire Mode

This feature, despite having on-screen commands, is often missed by new players. Many of the weapons in Just Cause 4 feature an alternative fire mode to mix up the gameplay. For example, the standard assault rifle has a grenade launcher with the press of another button.

One other fun example is a long-range rifle that also has a burst fire mode. It’s easy to forget these alternative fire modes when in the thick of battle. New players should always try out each new weapon’s secondary mode to see if it suits their play style.

3 Even Enemies Can Be Grappled

The grapple tool that Rico is equipped with in Just Cause 4 truly is handy and well-rounded. It might be obvious to many that you can grapple onto surfaces, but did you know that you can also grapple onto enemies? Yes, this grapple tool can be used to close the distance between you and an enemy.

Essentially you just need to line up the shot and then hit the button to fire the grapple at the person. This will quickly bring Rico right to them in order to knock them in the face. In reality, this doesn’t make much sense at all, but in the world of Just Cause 4, it’s perfectly natural.

2 You Have A Handy Melee Attack

Most of the action and fighting in Just Cause 4 will center around gunfights and explosions, but Rico does have a nice melee attack. This can be used with the simple press of a button when up close and personal. The melee weapon here is actually Rico’s grapple that he swings like a whip.

This may not be the most exciting way to damage enemies in the game, but in a quick pinch, it can either knock out or knock back an enemy.  Used strategically, Rico can melee an enemy and then reload to finish off the job. It’s simple but extremely useful.

1 There Are Crazy Weather Events

One of the most intuitive and immersive features in Just Cause 4 is the extreme weather events. From tornadoes to hurricanes to lightning storms, more often than not, these crazy events actually coincide with the narrative. The enemy in this game is working hard to control the biosphere in order to take over the land.

You might not realize this new feature and the first time you see one off in the distance, it can be simply awe-inspiring. Always keep a lookout for a vortex spinning up because you don’t want to get caught in that. When used strategically, Rico can send enemies or vehicles flying into these storms to turn the tide of battle.
