Spellbreak has proven to be an interesting and complex multiplayer game. Players go head to head to become the ultimate battlemage by destroying everyone else. It bears a lot of similarities to traditional battle royale style-games, but there are some differences.

In fact, many players might find the game entirely different from what they expected. It’s also fairly common for players to overlook certain mechanics and features as they’re not used to them. For players jumping into this game for the first time, there are some important things to know to make the process smoother.

10 Spend Some Time Practicing

While this holds true for just about every game, it’s especially important for Spellbreak. There are a lot of moving parts and elements that are different from most multiplayer games. An important thing for players to spend time practicing is understanding how elements combine and interact with each other.

Players can enter practice mode and test out all aspects of the game at their own place in utter safety. It’s not a bad idea to spend some time experimenting with classes, elements, and gauntlet combinations before diving into PVP.

9 Legendaries Are Only In Mana Vaults

Gaining power is a combination of leveling up and gathering more powerful gauntlets. Players will find gauntlets in a number of locations, but what many may not realize is the most powerful gauntlets are in very specific locations.

The legendary gauntlets are exclusively in Mana Vaults whereas other gauntlets can be found randomly in the world. The Mana Vaults are readily recognizable and save time for players hunting down legendaries.

8 Primaries & Secondaries Can Combine

In addition to combining elemental effects, players can also synergize the primary and secondary attacks within those elements. This is important to note as many players will only try combining elements and never think to combine primaries and secondaries of the same element.

It’s also notable that enemy players will also never think about this fact. Players can combine their attacks in unique and creative ways that can take others off guard. At least those who are relatively new to playing this game.

7 Everything Costs Mana

The primary resource in this multiplayer game is Mana. Primary attacks, secondary attacks, and levitating all consume mana. As a result, players should learn to regulate and monitor their mana at all times in the game.

Failure to do so could mean being unable to attack or escape when needed and often results in death. There are a number of items that can increase mana pools and recharge. There are also class perks that when combined with elements mitigate mana use.

6 Levitation Uses A Percentage

While increasing mana pool size is helpful for attacking more between charges, it has no effect on levitation. This is because Levitation consumes a percentage of mana no matter how large the mana pool is.

That’s not to say increasing mana isn’t a good thing, it just means the player needs to find other methods to levitate longer and more frequently. Players should devote some time to getting a feel for how long they can levitate to know their limits.

5 Pay Attention To Level

Another thing players should learn to track is their given character level. Part of this is because the player unlocks special perks and abilities that can help them in battle. Some examples include gaining invisibility for entering poison clouds and no longer being damaged by them.

It’s also important to track the level to know which abilities the character doesn’t have access to yet. It’s common to see players wade into poison thinking they’re immune but end up suffering damage because they’re under-leveled.

4 Spells Create Drag

A small mechanic in the game that many players forget or may not realize for a while is that spells cause drag when used in the air. This causes the player to slow down while traveling and may result in them landing somewhere unexpected.

It also makes them an easier target as they will fly through the air at a slower rate. Casting spells in the air can also cause some slight drag when falling. Not enough to negate fall damage, but enough to trip up the enemy or get more shots in. Again, it’s a minor impact but it is important to remember that it does have an impact.

3 Class Gauntlet On Right

One handy tip players are starting to realize is that the class gauntlet should be equipped on the right hand while the non-class gauntlet should stay on the left. The reason for this is that the left is more easily swapped via hotkey while the right tends to be stationary.

It’s either a great way to avoid accidentally switching away from the class gauntlet, which tends to be more useful, and lets the player swap out the correct gauntlet more efficiently. It’s a minor thing, but it spares the player from annoying deaths when the wrong gauntlet is swapped.

2 Battle Royale Feels Different

While the game does bear similarities to other battle royale games it also has some striking differences. Players coming in from games like PUBG or Apex Legends may be frustrated to find it’s different with magic-centric combat and zero weapons.

Of course, this could also be a good thing for players who haven’t enjoyed games like Fortnite. Many players prefer Spellbreak specifically because it plays differently to other battle royales. For players coming over from other games or who’ve avoided those kinds of games, Spellbreak should be noted for being different.

1 Class Is Very Important

The single most important thing to realize going into Spellbreak is that the class dramatically affects gameplay. While any class can cast any skill, certain classes gain special perks and abilities when using their chosen element.

In addition, each class is designed around specific playstyles. For instance, Pyros rely heavily on splash damage to harm enemies and their perks help with this. Tempest are very mobile and Stoneshapers can make great tanks. It pays off immensely to experiment with each class in practice mode and commit to the one that caters to the player’s skills and preferences.
