The PS5 is Sony’s newest console. It has been widely anticipated weeks leading up to its release, and units were sold out within a matter of minutes. Unfortunately, the supply of the console is unable to meet the demand, and many gamers who wished to own a PS5 were unable to get one on day one.
Those who were fortunate enough to claim a console for their own, though, were greeted with many new features that truly make the Playstation 5 worthy of the “next-generation” badge. If you don’t own a console yet, knowing about these features will surely make you want it more. Thankfully, Sony announced that more units are indeed on their way.
10 Track Your Play Time
Those who enjoy playing for hours on end can finally track how long they’ve been playing a specific game from the Playstation menu. This is most especially helpful for massive open-world games or lengthy single-player games. On top of that, it’s just cool to wear it like a badge of honor.
It’s also very interesting to realize how long you’ve been playing a single game and still not see everything a game has to offer. Many games are like this nowadays, expanding more than ever and providing more and more content for its fanbase and players.
9 Spoiler Warnings
Interactivity and connectivity is a heavy feature in modern consoles. There is one downside to this, though. When browsing through your friends’ screenshots and videos, you might accidentally stumble upon an image of a clip of a game that might be considered a spoiler.
Thankfully, the Playstation 5 has an option called “Spoiler Warnings” and this allows you to filter any potential spoilers. Content will now be tagged as a spoiler if they’re from anything you haven’t seen yet or if they’re identified by the game developers are crucial moments in the game, especially in story-heavy single-player games.
8 Game Presets
There are many things we prefer in our games, settings we’d rather have automatically on, like subtitles, difficulties, performance modes, and the like. Now, with the Playstation 5’s Game Presets option, you can set the settings you prefer as a default on a system-wide level.
If you head to the settings bar on the main UI, you can find the Game Presets option where you can choose to automatically set the subtitles as on, choose whether you prefer performance or resolution mode, and even choose the default difficulty.
7 Play Around With The Media Gallery
You now have more options to express your creativity with the Playstation 5’s Media Gallery. On top of being able to take a screenshot of your game, you can now also crop images, add texts, with various fonts, colors, and sizes to choose from, and more.
You can also tweak the settings of how you want your recordings to look. For example, you can select what resolutions you want your recordings to be, and yes, this includes 4k resolution. You can also choose to turn your mic’s audio on or off.
6 Customize Your Control Center
The control center can now be customized according to your liking in the Playstation 5. Instead of filling your UI with applications and controls you don’t really use that much, you can now select to have those settings removed from your control center.
For example, if you don’t really use the console’s music application, you can have that removed from the control center. If you broadcast a lot, then select to have that included. Just choose which you want and which you don’t for a more streamlined experience when playing with the console in the long run.
5 Record The Moment You Earn A Trophy
Completionists will love this feature. Those who long complete a game fully and jungle for every trophy a game offers know how rewarding it can be to finally earn trophies, and even more so, earning the platinum. If you want to keep a memory of these moments, you now can.
The Playstation 5 is now capable of recording the moment you earn a trophy. In the settings, you can tweak how long you want the recording to be, even choose whether or not you want the mic turned on so you can hear your sigh of relief or celebration as you’ve earned that well-deserved platinum trophy.
4 Customize Audio
Hearing the game’s audio can be just as fun and engaging as taking in a game’s graphics. To make sure your gameplay is as immersive as it can be, the Playstation 5 will now allow you to customize your audio output.
You can tweak the console’s settings depending on your preference, audio devices, and even adjust the audio settings based on the positions of your speakers. You can also choose your own 3D audio profile, which indicates how your ears receive and perceive sound, so you can really get the maximum level of audio experience.
3 Wishlist
One of the many things that were missing on the Playstation 4 that is prominent on other online game stores is the option to store games into a wishlist. Thankfully, Sony has now added this feature to the Playstation 5.
If there are games that you want to buy and download in the near future, you can now add those games to your wishlist. You can even turn on the notifications for these if there are ever any changes regarding the games you’ve placed on your wishlist.
2 Mobile App Integration
The mobile application for the Playstation 5 is now much more integrated and smoother compared to the one for the Playstation 4, which in truth is incredibly janky and almost useless. With the mobile app, you can purchase and download games, delete content, and more.
One of the most amazing things you can now do with the mobile application is start games on the Playstation 5 using just your phone, even when the controller isn’t connected yet. For all of these to work, though, the console either has to be turned on or placed on rest mode.
1 The Dualsense Can Be Used On Android Phones
The Playstation 5’s Dualsense is one of the most amazing things about the new console. In fact, it can be argued that the Dualsense is one of the best controllers we’ve ever had in our lifetime. The degree of immersion the controller can provide is phenomenal, making the games we already love even more enjoyable.
Amazingly, one of the things the Dualsense can do is act as a Bluetooth controller, which can be used on Android phones. If you have games on your Android mobile and you prefer playing them using a controller, you can pair your phone with your controller and game away.
