Marvel’s Avengers made it’s debut at E3 in 2019 to a mixed response thanks to the facial design of the characters. We’ve gotten to see a tutorial stage and some of the characters since then, but how much do we know about this title?
Actually, far more than people think. While we haven’t had much of a time to get a deep dive into the title, a bunch of information has come out in interviews and press releases that gives us an idea about what’s going on with respect to the title. For those who feel like they’ve been left in the dark, hopefully this will help them understand the kind of game being released.
10 BEING DEVELOPED BY FIVE STUDIOS
Everyone is aware that Crystal Dynamics is the head team over this game, but they’re not the only team working on it. Marvel’s Avengers is a massive title that demands tons of people to work on it. So while Crystal Dynamics has the lead, they’ve also got Crystal Northwest working on it, which handles multiplayer for the title.
Then they also have Nixxes, Eidos Montreal, and Square Enix Japan. All the teams are handling different aspects of the title to bring us the best version of the game possible.
9 MS. MARVEL IS THE MAIN CHARACTER
One of the coolest aspects of the game is that the lead role of the story appears to be Ms. Marvel. Kamala Khan is one of the biggest breakout characters of the last decade.
Co-created by G. Willow Wilson and Sana Amanat, Ms. Marvel was a teenager from Jersey who was granted superpowers when she inhaled Terrigen mists, turning her into an Inhuman. A bit of this is shown in the game’s initial trailer.
8 MOST DLC WILL BE FREE
Marvel’s Avengers is meant to be the kind of game that gets expanded on over time, and something players can return to for months and possibly years to come. With that in mind, they’ll have to be adding content quite frequently.
Fortunately for people who aren’t super excited about paying hundreds of dollars for a single game, most of the game’s DLC has been confirmed to be free. The characters and new environments and story missions won’t cost anything, and instead the monetization will be down to custom costumes.
7 YOU WORK FROM THE HELICARRIER
The opening mission of the game is a tutorial where the Avengers defend against an attack from AIM. During the mission, things don’t exactly go well, and a SHIELD helicarrier explodes and gets sunk while they’re fighting off AIM.
This is the inciting incident for the game, and it’s also symbolic because they’ll be rebuilding from there. They take the fallen helicarrier and use it as a base when they go out on future missions.
6 TWO DIFFERENT TYPES OF MISSIONS
As far as we know, there are two different types of missions. There are the Hero Missions, which is the usual story mode. This is a series of missions that basically utilize specific characters and tailor everything around that character’s strengths.
These missions will unlock the Warzone missions, which players can delve into whenever they want. From what’s been explained the Hero Missions are all solo story missions, so that’s for all the people that don’t want to get stuck playing online. The progress in these missions will carry over in Warzone missions, so players will retain the same level for that character regardless of the mission.
5 LEVEL OF CUSTOMIZATION
From what we’ve seen, there’s a ton of customization available to all of these characters. To start out with, there’s the gear, which is very similar to a Destiny style of leveling up.
Equipping gear will change the character’s strengths and playstyle, with there being multiple levels of gear from common to legendary. But then there’s the costumes, which will allow the characters to actually change their appearance. It’s also confirmed that each character will have a skill tree, truly customizing every one’s playstyle.
4 THE RUMORED NEW CHARACTERS
One of the more interesting rumored leaks talks about future characters that might be involved in Marvel’s Avengers. This comes from the leak of some LEGO toysets, showing off characters that will be included in the game, if not playable at launch.
The characters shown include Black Panther, War Machine, Captain Marvel, and Hawkeye. Loki is also present, though presumably he wouldn’t be playable. It seems logical to include all four of these characters, as they all have a certain level of popularity thanks to the Avengers movie franchise.
3 CO-OP
While Hero Missions make up part of the game play, Warzone missions will make up the other half. Warzone Missions are the game’s way of encouraging co-operative play, however, they don’t have to be played with anyone.
They can all be tackled solo, and encourage the player to pick whatever character they want. On teams however, Warzone missions do require every player to pick their own specific character. This keeps the team from having four Captain Americas or four Iron Mans. This will be available immediately after beating the tutorial mission.
2 THE CAMPAIGN IS SHORT
For those who are looking for long game, this might not be the title for them. The primary storyline runs about ten to twelve hours, according to interviews with Crystal Dynamics themselves.
However, they’ve also mentioned the game taking around thirty hours if players want to see everything in the game. Presumably this means completing Hero Missions and Warzone Missions alike, and possibly beating every Warzone mission with all characters.
1 RUMORED NEXT GAME
Square Enix and Marvel Games have teamed up to release games for the next several years together. Marvel’s Avengers is supposed to run for years by itself, but it’s not the only game coming out.
There are credible rumors that Eidos Montreal is working on a Guardians of the Galaxy game next.
