Fairy Tail fans have doubtless been waiting on the opportunity to have a video game set in their favorite world for ages. This universe is one that works perfectly for a game setting, as it’s set in a world where everyone exists in a guild and has unique magical powers. People can go on quests of different ranks and, after completing enough of them, can raise their rank in the guild. The actual world of Fairy Tail works like that, it’s almost as if the creator himself thought he was creating an RPG.
Fortunately, fans are finally getting a game based on the setting of the game. But what’s it about? How much does it develop the world? This list goes into all of that and more.
10 DEVELOPED BY GUST
Fairy Tail is being worked on by the developer Gust. The company is best known for its work on the Atelier series, which is well-known for its fun crafting system and cute characters.
There was supposedly a Facebook poll years ago asking what show Gust could turn into a video game. Fairy Tail won the poll, but as it turns out this has nothing to do with the poll; the studio had been working on a Fairy Tail title, to begin with.
9 TURN-BASED COMBAT
One question that comes to mind first when thinking about a Fairy Tail video game is what sort of battle system it will have. Well, Gust has chosen to go with what it knows: Turn-based combat.
There can be up to five members in combat, and everything takes place within a grid system, meaning certain characters can be pushed to the back to be protected by the others.
8 THERE’S A CRAFTING SYSTEM
An RPG series without a crafting component is unlikely, and this game won’t be the one to buck that trend. During the game, players will collect various items that can be crafted into Lacrima.
As Fairy Tail fans know, Lacrima are magical crystals that can be granted different spells. Equipping a character with Lacrima will increase their magical energy.
7 UNISON RAIDS
Unison Raid is a technique where two mages harmonize their magic to create a special technique that would be stronger than anything the two mages could do alone. It’s described as something that is incredibly difficult to do — fans see it only a handful of times in Fairy Tail between Lucy and Juvia, Juvia and Gray, Wendy and Lucy, and Sting and Rogue.
The PS4 game will feature plenty of Unison Raid spells, all specially designed by Hiro Mashima himself.
6 THEY REMADE MAGNOLIA
The home of most of the major guilds in Fiore is Magnolia. It’s where a good deal of the fighting takes place when the villains decide to bring the fight to the heroes. Much of the game will take place within the city of Magnolia, which was faithfully reconstructed as possible.
Gust spent several months trying to figure out how the town could translate to a proper gaming environment. While they made alterations to make the town work better, it seems to be a fairly faithful translation.
5 WHO YOU CAN PLAY AS
The Fairy Tail guild is actually quite massive, so it’s no surprise that players cannot control everyone in the game. But the game isn’t exactly weak on available characters, thanks to its status as a turn-based game.
Players will, of course, be able to play as obvious characters like Natsu, Gray, Wendy, Lucy, and Erza; however, they will also be given access to characters like Laxus, Gajeel, and Gildarts. It’s not limited to Fairy Tail members either, as Ichiya, Sting, Rogue, and Jellal are all playable.
4 YOU CAN UPGRADE THE GUILD HALL
Players will be able to upgrade the famous home of the Fairy Tail group from the beginning of the game. The group has been forced to downgrade into a smaller place after their best members have been gone for a long time, and doing quests allows the player to make money and get the guild back to where it needs to be.
3 SPECIAL CHARACTERS
While many characters will be available, not everyone in the game will be playable. Some characters are guests who can work with the team but are not actually usable.
Players will get characters like Lyon Vastia, Gray’s rival, and Minerva Orland. Makarov will also be a support character who can show up and use his impressive magic as the leader of the Fairy Tail guild.
2 SPECIAL SIDE QUESTS
One thing that’s been established is that players will be able to take on special side missions that were not in the actual anime. This emulates how the members of the guild were constantly taking on quests.
Some of these side stories are meant to flesh out some of the other characters within the show, with them specifically discussing scenes featuring characters working together that fans never saw in the series.
1 FOLLOWS THE STORYLINE
The first question people tend to ask about anime games is how much of the series is being adapted. In the case of the Fairy Tail anime, it’s actually quite a bit.
The game’s prologue is the end of Fairy Tail’s time on Tenrou Island. From there, it adapts both the Grand Magic Games and the Tartarus arc. It hasn’t been mentioned if the game will include the last arc of the series as well, but that’s pretty much half the anime if Gust chose to do so.
