When it comes to management games, time and strategy are both important factors. In Gloria Victis: Siege Survival by Black Eye Games and Fish Tank Studio, these factors are even more prevalent. The goal is to hold off an ever-growing Viking invasion with dwindling resources and any survivors capable of working.
Not only must the walls and civilians be cared for, but the soldiers in the bastion also need all the support available to fight back continuous assaults. The game begins with all the stakes raised and everything on shaky footing. Because of this, players hit the ground running and need to start strong. These tips will help.
10 Upgrade Your Storehouse
The first building introduced during the siege is the storehouse which acts as the nerve center to the whole operation. Not only does it hold slots for medical supplies, but civilians need to interact with it in order to access the structure menu. At base, it provides eight building options with an additional five that need to be unlocked through upgrading.
Though materials are not the most common resource, any that can be gathered should go directly to improving the storehouse. Once it’s upgraded, the storehouse’s potential is maxed out with unlocked structures that can provide invaluable resources.
9 Check The Animals
The fort courtyard starts you off with the storehouse and two animal pens. They include two pigs and three chickens. The hens provide eggs that can be used in meals or fodder while the pigs provide compost for farming. Both pens need to be fed on a regular basis to ensure maximum production. The longer they go without feeding, the less they produce.
The most effective feed is fodder which can be produced at a butcher’s table. Alternatively, they can be given other food items including herbs and vegetables. The meat they provide should only be used as a last resort in an endgame scenario.
8 Gather As Much Material As Possible
There are many resources that players should maximize for building and production. While wood is necessary for a lot of structures and products, materials are especially important. It’s not as common as wood and the best chance to find it is during scavenging segments. Materials are used for a variety of important installments including upgrading the storehouse and building a butcher’s table.
It’s usually found in piles of debris and rubble around the city. In a pinch, players can take a chance to find some in the endless rubble found at home base.
7 Build A Workbench (And Upgrade It)
In order to build and scavenge more effectively, players will need to create the necessary tools. Unless they get lucky out in the city, the best chance they have of getting them is by building a workbench. The base form of this structure provides torches, toolboxes, and arrows. While all of these are valuable for progress, toolboxes are needed to build other structures and for upgrades.

This includes upgrades for the workbench itself which players will want to achieve as soon as possible. Once they do, they’ll be able to build rudimentary shovels in order to remove rubble blockages around the city.
6 Build A Butcher’s Table
The storehouse provides a range of structures that need to be built for survival. It includes basics like a campfire and complexities like a drying rack. However, one of the most important is the butcher’s table. This structure is necessary for processing meat so that it can be used in meals and dried on the drying rack.
It can also be used to process rotten food into fodder to feed the animals. The faster this table is built, the faster food can start being prepared for the civilians, soldiers, and animals.
5 Recruit Rena Quickly
For players to maximize production, they’ll need to have as many able hands as possible. The game starts players out with Flint who is soon joined by Bertram. Though these two men are quite skilled, they can only do so much. On the second night after Bertram becomes available, it’s possible to recruit an additional helper almost instantly.
By encountering a home invasion, players can have Bertram intervene to help the victim. After stepping in, players can recruit the survivor Rena to help out at the base and get more done during the day.
4 Ignore Valuables (For Now)
A large part of the game is gathering resources. After clearing out all the debris piles around the base all that’s left is the endless rubble pile and gathering points around the city. Unfortunately, only one person can search through the endless rubble at a slow pace so scavenging is the better option. While exploring the city, there are piles and objects to examine for resources as well as events that offer additional rewards.
However, when starting out, valuables should be ignored. Not all resources stack high and valuables take up a precious slot that could better be used for food or building materials.
3 Unlock The Southwest Passage
The way the scavenging portion of the game works is that one civilian can be sent out every night. By making use of secret underground passages, players can select certain starting points. They begin having only one point which is located near the unguarded Marketplace. It’s a safe area, but once it’s been cleared, it quickly wastes time running through it every night.
By using enough shovels, a path can be cleared open up another starting point in the southwest of the city. Though it’s a riskier starting point, it’s much more profitable.
2 Adjust The Camera To Match The Map
The layout of the city in Siege Survival is always the same but it can be difficult to keep track of its layout. Any time spent thinking about routes is time that could be better spent moving and gathering. Thankfully, players are given access to a city map front the start. The map covers spawn points, events, and even blockages.
However, the map is static, even though it tracks player movement. If players turn the camera so that it’s facing the front of the chosen civilian at the first spawn point, they’ll be oriented the same way as the map for better navigation.
1 Avoid Combat
While the nighttime portions of the game would have players believe that fighting is inevitable, that is not the case. During scavenging, civilians will come across Vikings who are posted or patrolling around the city. A clearly defined field of vision indicates what players need to avoid which makes stealth an easy option.
Weapons are hard to come by and take up a precious inventory slot which makes them better suited for the bastion. Even though some civilians are strong fighters, encounters with soldiers risk unnecessary injures which will reduce productivity and cost resources.
Gloria Victis: Siege Survival is a game that throws players into the deep end hoping they know how to swim. As long as they make the most of the day and night, players may stand a chance against the Viking hordes.
