Pokemon fans start their journey with the franchise in a jolly and welcoming place where they simply want to get lost in the world. As time goes on they start to see the harsh realities of the Pokemon world and how it is much more Earth-like than it first appeared.
The first time a Pokemon fan sees characters in the anime eating Pokemon it can be quite shocking. Fishermen exist in the Pokemon world and it’s safe to assume that these people cook and eat some of the very same Water-type Pokemon they battle and catch when they’re out fishing.
10 Arrokuda - The Rush Pokemon
This list is going to start with fish Pokemon that are very much edible, but likely not as desirable as ones near the top of the list. The Galar region in Pokemon Sword & Shield introduced the world to the Rush Pokemon which is more commonly referred to as Arrokuda.
It’s the natural prey of the large Water-type fowl Pokemon known as Cramorant and is known for its speed above all else. It’s unclear if it tastes good or not as trainers will have a tough time running into experienced fishermen in the region.
9 Feebas - Not Just A Magikarp Reskin
Feebas for better or worse is the Pokemon Company challenging themselves to make a Water-type fish Pokemon that’s less appealing than Magikarp. Despite being much rarer than Magikarp, Feebas’ hollowed sunken body makes it look as though it would taste awful if it was cooked and served on a plate, regardless of the chef.
Humans are resilient and resourceful, so it’s likely that Feebas is eaten quite often in the Hoenn region by those who have no other choice, and to them Feebas tastes like fresh lobster.
8 Seaking - Food And Valuables
Do humans normally eat goldfish? Well, no goldfish aren’t a species people find particularly enticing. Seaking may appear to resemble a typical goldfish, but this Kanto native Water-type is anything but that. It isn’t normal for a goldfish to be over 4 feet in length and weigh close to 90 pounds.
The horn on its head is likely a valuable item for traders, as well, and it’s not like fisherman in Kanto are simply going to snag the horn and dispose of the body. It’s more likely that someone grilled a Seaking found out if it was delicious or not.
7 Octillery - Probably Good In Salads
Fishermen typically don’t go out looking to catch octopuses as they can be troublesome on the nets and often not worth the effort. That being said, the desire to eat octopus has risen over the years and the same thing is likely true in the world of Pokemon.
People may assume it would be called Octillery calamari, but calamari refers to squid and not octopus. That means that people eating calamari in the world of Pokemon are likely eating a Psychic and Dark-type squid Pokemon from the Kalos region known as Malamar.
6 Magikarp - It Is Just A Carp
Despite Magikarp being rather useless in battle, it seems it does have a purpose on a dining table. The Fish Pokemon that made its mark in its native Kanto region is one of the first Pokemon seen as a dish in the anime.
It feels like the perfect fish in terms of cuisine as it’s easy to catch, in high populations, and large enough to be worth keeping and cooking. What’s unclear is if anyone has ever tried to kill and cook a Gyarados, the final and much more powerful form of Magikarp, which it can evolve into at level 20.
5 Clauncher - Good In Sandwiches Or Bisque
Blue lobsters aren’t fantasy creatures as they exist in the real world. They happen to be much more of a luxury dish and cost more than normal lobster which is already considered pricey.
Clauncher is the closest thing Pokemon has to a blue lobster and sports one large claw on its body. It’s unclear if normal crackers would break open this claw to reveal the meat, but it’s worth a try. Fishermen in the Kalos region likely lose plenty of nets and possibly fingers trying to bring in this brilliant Water-type Pokemon.
4 Lumineon - The Neon Pokemon
Lumineon is known as the Neon Pokemon, and this Water-type creature from the Sinnoh region isn’t appealing to look at. In that way, it’s important to look at it more like a deep-sea tuna or larger fish that is much more delicious and appetizing than its outer exterior would lead people to believe.
Fishermen in the Sinnoh region looking to catch Lumineon better be prepared for a challenge. This fish measures at around 4 feet and weighs well over 50 pounds on average, meaning there are larger variations of it, as well.
3 Krabby - This Kills The Crab
Is crab meat as good as lobster? The answer to that is no, but crab tends to be more consistent in terms of quality and is much cheaper. Krabby, the River Crab Pokemon, is another Water-type from the Kanto region and is known for having incredibly strong pincers.
Fishermen who are lucky enough to get their hands on these things will likely find a delicious meal hiding somewhere within the tough armor coating it sports. At an average of 14.3 pounds, there seems to be plenty of meat to feed an entire family.
2 Wishiwashi - The Small Fry Pokemon
Wishwashi is an interesting case of a creature being much more offputting depending on how large of a group it is in. A single Wishiwashi seems like a tiny fish that should be thrown back in the water, but its school form comprised of a dozen of them morphing together feels like a once-in-a-lifetime catch by a fisherman out on the waters.
The Small Fry Pokemon is anything but that in this special form and is likely seen as a delicacy of sorts for natives and tourists spending their time on the Alolan Islands.
1 Corphish - Don’t Forget The Butter Sauce
It’s hard to deny the fact that most people who eat seafood love a well-cooked lobster. Toss on a little butter and some seasoning and it’s hard to resist. Not only is Corphish a bit larger than Clauncher, but its red color is also a bit more appealing to people than the blue-ish tint of a creature like Clauncher.
Fishermen in the Hoenn region likely feast on this Water-type Pokemon, and the Corphish that survive evolve into the Water and Dark-type Pokemon known as Crawdaunt, a creature much harder to catch and cook.
