Steel-type Pokémon are often a mystery because they shouldn’t usually be alive since their bodies are usually made up completely of steel, lacking any apparent organs or other biological processes. This makes Steel-types strange when compared to most other typings in the franchise.
Some Steel-type Pokémon have extremely unique designs and abilities, but that doesn’t change the fact that they are strange and don’t make very much sense. It is arguable that a lot of the creatures shouldn’t even be classified as Pokémon in the first place since they don’t seem to be biologically alive.
10 Metagross
Metagross is more of a machine than a Pokémon, and a lot of players immediately realized this after encountering it in the Generation 3 games. Not only is Metagross a massive creature, but it also doesn’t look anything like a living creature should.
Fans will note the robotic appearance of Metagross’s face when they first see it, and its large arms don’t look biological at all. Furthermore, Metagross doesn’t have a gender when it is encountered, which further supports the idea that it is less of a living creature and more of a machine.
9 Skarmory
Skarmory is one of the coolest Steel-type Pokémon in the entire franchise because it is a metal bird. However, a metal bird wouldn’t make much sense in real life, and it logically shouldn’t in the Pokémon world either.
Realistically, Skarmory wouldn’t be able to fly through the air because of how heavy its body is, and it is strange that this isn’t addressed at all in the franchise. Even though Skarmory is an interesting creature, most players logically realize that it doesn’t make sense as a Pokémon.
8 Magneton
There are a ton of strange things about Magneton that lead players to believe that it shouldn’t be classified as a Pokémon and, like Metagross, should instead be classified as some type of machine.
The first thing about Magneton that makes it not seem like a Pokémon is the fact that it appears to simply be three Magnemite stuck together. The other fact about Magneton is that it is really just a powerful magnet and not a living creature. Both of these things should disqualify it from being an individual Pokémon.
7 Klefki
Klefki is a keychain, and it was met with controversial opinions when it was introduced in Generation 6. Some players loved it because it is adorable, and others hated it because it lacks originality and is based on an inanimate object that shouldn’t be alive.
Regardless of how players feel about this Pokémon, Klefki is definitely strange, and it is weird that a keychain could ever come to life in any capacity. It is arguable that Klefki should have never been a Pokémon in the first place since its design is so strange.
6 Probopass
Probopass is a large rock formation with a giant nose, which makes sense given its name. Probopass is a cool-looking Pokémon, and there is no debating how unique it is compared to other Steel-type creatures that have a light gray color.
Despite the fact that Probopass is an interesting Pokémon, it is also weird because of how large it is and the fact that it is able to move around. Some fans are freaked out about Rock-type Pokemon in general since it doesn’t appear that they have any organs inside of their bodies, which would make it so that they aren’t living creatures.
5 Mawile
Mawile is definitely a Pokémon that looks like it belongs in the franchise; however, there is something strange about it that just doesn’t make sense.
Mawile has a second mouth on the back of his head that seems to be alive in its own right, which would mean that Mawile isn’t a singular Pokémon by itself. If Mawile is two separate creatures attached to one body, then it wouldn’t be a single Pokémon; it would be two separate entities.
4 Genesect
Genesect is a mythical Pokémon that was altered by Team Plasma to become part Pokémon and part machine. Since Genesect is part machine, a lot of fans believe that it shouldn’t be classified as a Pokémon anymore.
If some Pokémon are part machines such as Genesect and Metagross, then they shouldn’t truly be seen as Pokémon since they may not even be fully alive in the same way that they used to be. Overall, Genesect is one of the strongest Unova Pokémon; however, it is still debatable whether it is actually a Pokémon after its modifications or if it is a robotic creature instead.
3 Dialga
Dialga is one of the legendary Pokémon from the Sinnoh region, and it has the extraordinary ability that allows it to manipulate time in a way that most Pokémon cannot. These abilities are similar to those that are possessed by the Ultra Beasts from Generation 7, which begs the question of if Dialga should also be considered an Ultra Beast.
This question is logical for all of the regional legendaries from Generation 4, and some players now believe that these creatures are actually Ultra Beasts since they also come from different dimensions and different times.
2 Alolan Dugtrio
Alolan Dugtrio is a newer variant of Dugtrio that is found solely in the Alola region and is adapted to the islands by gaining the Steel-type.
Similar to the original Dugtrio, Alolan Dugtrio is made up of three different creatures, and they all have faces of their own. The fact that there are three different creatures attached to one Pokémon makes fans wonder if they should be considered three separate Pokémon instead of a single creature. If this is the case, then Alolan Dugtrio and the original Dugtrio as well should not be classified as simply Pokémon and should possibly gain a new classification along with Pokémon such as Magneton.
1 Klinklang
Klinklang is a Steel-type that was introduced in the Unova region, and it quickly became one of the strangest Pokémon in the series because it is just a bunch of gears, and it is able to float for no reason.
Both of these traits are weird, and they aren’t present in most other Pokémon in the franchise. Not only is Klinklang weird because it is made up of gears, but it also doesn’t appear to be alive biologically. Since this seems to be the case, Klinklang shouldn’t be considered a Pokémon and should be classified as a machine or possibly a mutated object.
