Computer hardware company Intel has begun teasing “something big” for a new event it has announced for later this year, leading many to believe that this event will mark the launch of the company’s 11th gen CPUs.
Intel first showed off its 11th gen CPUs at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) earlier this year. Known as the “Tiger Lake” line, these 10nm chips will have Intel’s new integrated Xe graphics, which are expected to greatly boost graphics performance.
Intel recently sent members of the press an invite for them to “drop in” to an online event on September 2, where the company has “something big to share.” Given that at CES Intel said it expected to ship these new Tiger Lake CPUs in the fall, this naturally seems like the moment to do so.
The Tiger Lake line is expected to go up against AMD’s 7nm Ryzen 4000 line, which has just recently released in laptops and has been garnering a good deal of praise. AMD is also going to be the sole supplier of both CPUs and GPUs of both next-gen consoles when the PS5 and Xbox Series X launch later this year.
AMD recently reassured those who were concerned about the launch of the PS5 and Xbox Series X being delayed from the end of this year into next year due to the COVID-19 epidemic, saying that both systems are still on track to release this year.
In other Intel news, the 10th generation of CPUs is still going strong, so much so that new chips are still being released, albeit prematurely. In May, several people online received their orders for Intel’s i9-10900K processors from Newegg Business before the chip’s scheduled release. Of course, the chips were useless without the required z490 motherboards that had yet to be released, but it still didn’t make Newegg Business look the best.
Those looking to upgrade their CPUs sooner and nab some free games along the way however should consider AMD’s Raise the Game bundle, which gives those who purchase select RX 5000 models free copies of Resident Evil 3 and Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, a free three months to Xbox Game Pass for PC to boot.
